The last remaining video rental store I've been aware of in my sphere went out of business at the same time someone put a blockbuster version of a Redbox right in front of the store. The machine was quickly removed, but it was already too late.

I remember the wind knocking out direct TV every Christmas holiday. So we go to block buster to rent movies. I really liked Lost.

So do you think a video store could make a comeback? Having both options to rent and sell physical media?

Maybe blockbuster could come back and instead of renting movies just be a distributor and sell movies but still have the similar vibes from the past to have that nostalgic feel to them and maybe incorporate that party idea you mentioned.

Absolutely, be the go to spot for physical media collectors, why not. It’s not like Walmart is doing an outstanding job right?

@@megamikethemovieman haha exactly what I was thinking. Since Walmart is kind of the only place to buy the latest physical media releases in person why not have another go-to spot to check out.

I loved Blockbuster. Remember getting VHS there. Probably won't come back. No one is going to rent movies anymore if they are there going to a redbox location. Would be nice if they came back selling physical media instead. Probably not, though I wouldn't hold my breath.

I feel like streaming killed any possibility of physical renting. Why rent the physical copy when you can rent the digital from home? Even if fidelity is important to you. You still get to see a 4k copy with some sort of HDR and decide if you want to pickup the physical copy. I do like the party idea. A gamestop type store with a theater.

A party experience is definitely the way to go to bring back all that nostalgia. Do you think that would get people excited to get out or are a lot of people just happy being at home?

Bro Blockbuster closed doors because people were buying movies rather than renting. And then streaming came along. I always preferred the mom and pop smaller independent videoclubs rather than larger chain clubs. As a horror fan I found more hard to see movies there. And since at that time I lived in P.R. I got something that continental US did not VHS from Venezuela. That was an era for entertainment in P.R. Lots of horror movies arrived from Venezuela before the American version and sometimes they were longer or different versions. At Blockbuster I only bought movies and videogames but I never rented. Blockbuster won't come back because physical movies are having a hard time staying afloat let alone sustain a videoclub. People turned their backs on Blockbuster. Sorry to burst your bubble but I think they're never coming back. Anyway good topic and cool video Mike!👉🙂👈

The chances are definitely small. But is there any way to get movie lovers United again because the theaters aren’t doing it? What are the other options?

@@megamikethemovieman bro it's the shape of things to come. Us old geezers are in the minority. Average moviegoers and the younger generation dictate how movies are consumed. But to make matters worse the younger generation doesn't care about movies. All of my younger cousins don't care about movies or physical media. And if they want entertainment they'll stream it. I think there's no way out movies are gonna be a niche market.😭

To be honest blockbuster can not come back. And the reason why is bc streaming has killed any chance of any kind of video store making a comeback. Plus it would be very hard to find anyone or any bank to help to finance to get any video store up & running. And to me that really sucks bc I grew up during the days of the video stores. Like blockbuster & west coast video & the mom & pop video stores. But I will say this to all the people that think streaming is better than owning any physical media. Those people have no clue in what they are missing out on. Bc streaming you never actually own any of the movies you are watching plus the cost of buying movies off of streaming is about the same price of buying a physical copy and with physical copy you actually own more then just a code for the movie. Bc physical copy's you get the movie plus cool extras on a disk & about 90% percent of the time you can tell the difference in audio & video between streaming and physical copy's. And to me i personally I will always pick a physical copy over streaming. But if there is a chance of video stores making a comeback. I will surport them 100% percent bc of how much I miss those days going to the video stores.

What if it was a store that just focused on the sales of physical media, could that work? And market it to people with all those positives of physical media you mentioned.
@tomboling2309
@tomboling2309 Ай бұрын
Yes and no bc first off you will need more people to go back to actually want to start buying physical media. And that will be the hardest thing to get people stop doing streaming and start buying physical media again .But once you get that started it should be easier to get people to go back and start buying physical media. And once you shove that problem. Then to keep people buying physical media the studios need to invest more time & money in keeping physical media up and running going strong by releasing more and more of there back catalog titles. And by doing that the studios have enough back catalog titles for at least 6 to 10 years of strong physical media sales. Bc just think if the studios would release around 80% percent of there back catalog titles over 6 to 10 years period. The market sales would be strong enough for the studios to make better decisions in making better future films. But like I said first thing needs to be done is getting people to go back to physical media and getting people away from streaming
