ClayArtGirl Sweet! I tried Craigslist for a 3DS with Animal Crossing New Leaf, but no one had them after like, an hour, so I've been reduced to finding new ones. XD Oh how awful to have something that you know hasn't been trashed or glued or hacked!

Im honestly really glad I found your channel all those months ago. The day I found your channel was the day I really started to push myself in starting to be more serious when it comes to drawing. I know I'm still not the best at drawing but practice does make perfect. I've definitely improved and I'm always making sure I pay attention to what your tips and advise is. But thank you again, you really have inspired me to get go back out and try drawing again. Much love from Maine!!

I did not have any artistic talent. When I started reading books that I was interested in, I started drawing fanart. I wanted to get better, so I started watching you and looked up to you. After about 3 to 4 years, I got to a very realistic style. Even after coming back to this channel after 1 or 2 years, I am STILL learning and I'm not complaining. Every new thing learned is another step forward. It doesn't matter if I just learned how to draw a specific line or even how to paint, it's another step in becoming great at anything. Thank you! For making me the person I am today!

Also, it's best to start drawing what you see in the real world. It will really stunt your growth if you start off with a cartoonish style right away. You need to learn the rules before you break them. Hope this helped :)
@pearlyp9898

In my opinion it, doesn't really matter, you can start cartoony, but be sure to also look out for the proportions so it doesn't look too strange. But really, it's your own preferance, your own style that you can only find by drawing and experimenting. :>

That cat in the end 😻😻😻😻😻😻 It was fun to watch you draw all these sketches. I really should practice more to start from basic shapes. I hardly ever do that and yes, my drawings tend to be quite static. After visiting an exhibition in a museum for modern art that was totally about cats, I felt inspired to make my own cat art journal / sketchbook. I was working in it tonight, before watching your videos (I really should be going to bed instead 🙈). Thanks for the fun and educating video! 💖💖💖

think of what you want to draw. so in example i wanted to draw dragons but my drawings looked like this (fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/205/0/7/bad_dragon_drawing_by_gkillerlegend-d58hoy6.png) then after a few months my drawings looked like this (fc01.deviantart.net/fs21/i/2007/299/e/5/Dragon_drawing_by_LadyShar.jpg) but not like this (fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/220/8/f/Red_Dragon_Drawing_by_BlackMamba12.jpg) i didnt keep drawing the same thing the same way every time. i got books, and watched tutorials on youtube on how to draw dragons. then i got confident enough and tried my own style and i liked it then i stuck with it for a while. tried a few different styles here and there. then i started trying to draw more "realistically" but i havent drawn in a while which i should fix BUT enough about that. really whatever you want to draw just try it first with no tutorial but maybe a little reference picture for help. then start to progress into how-to-draw books and youtube videos.
@scourgeface

so pretty much what im saying is just start off easy then go to books and youtube then try to get comfortable with your own style

That's somehow depressing. 35 years of practising starting now means I'll be 85 ... I doubt I still can hold the pencil steady then. I truly wish I would be in my 20s and would have all the time I need. Ok, it's not helpful to lament - I guess I should do my best with the years I have. Thx for the great video and the cute cats :)

Great advice! That's the only way you improve our work is by practice. studying what you want to draw or paint helps too. Watching video's of how animals move and such or whatever it is your wanting to draw. I became really serious this year and have really seen an improvement in my work.

"I love a list, I love a plan; it helps me to achieve a goal if I have a path to follow." I think for a lot of us wanting to do art, we have great difficulty with linear thinking. You've managed to strike the perfect balance between your left and right brain.

Hello Art ala Carte, I started out looking through youtube this morning to find somewhere to get started in cartooning. I have found a lot of good stuff but your stuff really resonated with me.I love your love of cartooning. I have just spent the morning watching mostly your youtube videos. I love your passion, expression and willingness to help beginner artist like me. I am very particular on what artist that I want to follow, I don’t exactly know why? However your videos have struck a cord with me. Especially the “how to draw you” video and the “how to draw your body” video and this video. Because of you i know where to start, I know what I want to do and you have given me a great template to start out. I really appreciate that you share this information so freely. However I just wanted to thank you so much for sharing, not only your how to videos but also your passion, your love for the craft and your sense of humour. I love the person you are! You are incredibly awesome!Thankyou so much!

I have a lot of trouble drawing people's faces, mostly the eyes. Most tutorials show how to draw an eye, what i want is to know how to draw it in the right place and how to make both eyes symmetrical. I would really appreciate if you could help me out with that
@pikachuandreimu
@pikachuandreimu 7 жыл бұрын
Vishali Dharanirajan that mainly requires you drawing them at the same time and having a straight line across the face so that way you know where to place the eyes. Plus they tend to be at the middle of your face, hope that helps!

A good tip I learned, particularly with the eyes, is to draw the first one that is opposite of your dominate hand. If you're right handed, start off with the left, and if you're left handed, start with the right eye. It will make matching the eyes up much easier.

I actually don't want to watch other people's drawings. I will watch a part that I believe helps me most. If I can't find that part I search 'how to draw a nose' or something along that line. I then watch that and slowly search for each thing. I don't get let down because I want to draw like them. I push myself on to be above them. Although I may not be THAT good, it definitely helps to improve my art!

Usually I don't give up. My art usually doesn't look so good the first time I go for it, but you have to kinda practice drawing and get the hang of it, you can't just expect to draw as good as a person that has been drawing for years on your first try.

This time thing is what i really need to work harder to keep in mind. I drew a lot as a kid, then i took a ten year break of basically no drawing. About two months ago I started drawing again and i had some initial success and i was drawing things i love, now that im back into drawing im practicing and practicing and I keep thinking alright, theres 100 eyes, i should be able to draw an eye consistently now, and then i draw a terrible eye and get discouraged. But ill push on. Another hundred eyes, maybe do a hundred noses, then 100 close ups of the eyes and nose etc, and five years from now ill keep at it. I really want to get serious about art. At 28 its probably a little late to tackle it as a profession, but im still going to tackle it because i love doing it.

Can you do a video about signing your art? Where to sign? How big or small? Is it always the darkest color of the art you've made? Does it always need a date? Can it be on the back of the canvas/paper or really close to the subject?

JustSaying I'm no expert on this, but NEVER WRITE ON THE BACK OF A SOFT, THICK PAPER! The pen or pencil with texture it, drawing the attention away from your artwork, and potentially ruining it. Luckily, my piece was tiny when I recently did this, and in a sketchbook.

I have a friend who does that. She goes straight to lining without guidelines and she have never learnt the basics I dont think. She doesen't think about shapes and all that stuff. And when we draw together(Or like just beside each other) and when we look at each others drawings we look confused because I draw with the basics and shapes but she goes straight to getting that precise outline. It's not that there's anything wrong with it. If it works for her it's fine :) I just don't really agree with it hehe. But anyways thank you for the video your techniques have really helped me developping my style and my drawing skills :)

Yay! What a great tutorial! I've been an artist since I was 3. I was taught early on to reduce all things to circles, squares cones lines etc. I used to practice, practice, practice, with my art tutor saying "Practice makes Perfect." At times it drove me crazy, however, it put me in good stead to explore. If I'm feeling a little out of my comfort zone, I go right back to basics. It allows me to be an artist who's not scared to try something different. I see so many artists on You Tube who constantly turn out wonderful pieces of art, but they're all the same. Portraits of beautiful girls surrounded by flowers, mystical beasts etc, but the same pose, the same look, feel. You know as soon as the video starts its going to be another head and shoulders of a beautiful girl with the same face, except she has blonde or dark straight or curly hair. I love to watch artists who aren't afraid to try something different, and if it's not perfect, it doesn't matter, the imperfections are what makes art unique, innovative and exciting. Thanks!

Practice never makes perfect... it makes better though! Art is a journey from which you continually grow and change. Enjoy your journey and have alittle adventure! :)
@MagicalBevanna
@MagicalBevanna 7 жыл бұрын
Art ala Carte The adventure is what makes art worth doing, especially those roads you don't travel on that often. There's no such thing as perfect, life would be soooo very boring if it was, it's the imperfections that make us individual, and that's reflected in our art. It's just the phase that reminds me of the man who fast tracked my way to college lol. = ^.,.^= :-)

I like punk music Look back at your old art. Do a channel with sketchbook tours; I've found that you get lots of positive feedback if you tell people they're your old drawings-- fairly messed up, but it works for confidence. XD

Thankyou for being here. But I do have one question, If I were to start a art youtube channel (which im planning on to) what are some of the things you would recommend to do and or have?

0:40 it's why I stopped drawing at first cause I was always comparing myself with my other better artist sibling. so I stopped drawing for 20 years till after I finished my graphic design school.

20 years? I could only dream of taking such a break from thinking about it! Drawing comes to mind multiple times a day right now - it's terrible, and I can't find to prevent it from happening.

What do you use to color and shade your drawing in? Also can you tell me what you use to sketch, and this helped me with motivation for drawing more! ^_^

Can you make a video on how to do anatomy. It can be on humans, but if you don't feel comfortable with that you can choose another anatomy of something. ^-^ Thanks.

I've been doing art "properly" for about a year now, I can see how much I've improved but what bothers me is that I don't have a really cool style. Every artist I follow has their own unique style and that's why so many people like their art but mine is just... Boring. I looked at advice and all it said was to experiment and wait for my style to come through however that advice doesn't stop the fact that I'm hungry for my own style and I feel like I'll be waiting to get it for years :(

Hello! I've been here I. This channel for 4 years and I'm still carrying on with this channel that I love But I have a question When do I know when to stop my drawing, or when to not over do it ?

That is a point every artist makes on their own.... sometimes I will have "Finished" pieces for years and then start working on them. The more you create the more you will find your stopping point.

Art ala Carte thanks for replying! Also one more question I know you should take time with your drawings, but I always want to try new things and experiment,but I'm scared of messing up, everytime I draw I'm happy with it but I want more, then when I ink it and color it I ruin it, does that mean I'm just bad at Inking and colouring, or I'm just not confident in my self?
