After fighting with my printer nearly every step of the way, I finally get the darn thing printing (at least some) of my PLA nearly perfectly! And then I tried PETG... and eveything exploded...

PETG is very sensitive to temperature swings, warping, and layer adhesion just like ABS. The only similarity to PLA is the printing temperature. My suggestion: On Cura try to set the profile to Creality CR-20. Make an enclosure for the printer to limit the temp swings. put a sock over the hotend if you don't have one.

I’ll take a look into it. Thanks! I do have a silicone sock over the heater block if that’s what you meant.

Hey guys. I just got my SC-10 last week. My first printer. To get good prints on pla I had to set retraction to 10 mm Which just seems too much to me. When I try the e step process I get like 93 to 94 mm and I am just not sure where to make the change. Petg so far for me has been a mess.

Same here. I basically gave up on PETG- which is a shame because I have to spools of it. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Have you tried using a different benchy model?

I haven’t. That one was from the official benchy website and worked well for me on PLA

@@NerdsWithFriends Did you ever get the issue worked out with printing PETG?

Hey dude, those benches look like an error in the STL as it looks like they are in the exact sample place both on the smokestack and the bow (could be worth trying another slicer too, you using Cura 4.5?). I will run off some PETG prints and see if I can find a setting that works well on my SC10. Also seen in your setting you have Z hop on, what hight is it (going to guess 1mm?) I personally world turn Z hop off and only use it if your getting the nozzle dragging on your top layers leaving marks, and even then I would only use it at around 0.2mm......and finally for layer hight your better off using multiples of 0.04, so would switch 0.15 to 0.16 search "3D print magic numbers" to get an idea of how that works, as a bit too much to go into here but Chep has a good video on it here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ja-bh5uS2LqdYHU.html

Thanks for all the input! I’ve been using the provided Lotmaxx flavor of cura (cura 4.2) - but I just read a review on Amazon that said cura recently(ish) added the sc-10 as a preset. I am definitely open to swapping over and giving vanilla cura a try- I just assumed they were pretty much the same. I have drifted from their stock setting a bit and I do use magic numbers. What is the benefit of disabling z hop? You’re right! Z hop is set to 1mm.

@@NerdsWithFriends Yeah, the Cura 4.5 has the SC-10 added now, So totally worth giving that a go. Regards the benefit of disabling Z hop, if your retraction stating are not bang on right or you're using something that loves to string like PETG when it "hops" the Z-axis moves up as it retracts and Iv found this can leave a little bit of plastic that can at best leave imperfection on the print and at worse give the nozzle something to hit on the next pass (worth watching print and seeing what happens when it hops easy to spot, nozzle stops moving and it get louder while it lifts the Z 1cm) as it has to perform a retraction and lift the Z 1mm every layer it adds a fair bit of time to the print and is there to fix an issue most people don't have (the nozzle rubbing against a printed top surface and leaving scars on top solid layers), and if you do have that issue then switching the setting to "Z-hop only over printed parts " gives you the best of both worlds, but 1mm is far to hight IMHO, if have a well-calibrated E steps, having it more then say double your layer height would imply you're putting out far too much plastic. So in short Z hop fixes issues you shouldn't have in the first place and adds a lot of time to your print..... I hope that helps, and just ping me if you have any questions! (about to start some PETG prints now, so will let you know how I get on)

Pigeon Print yea- I’m pretty sure my printer rubs the top- bad. I did just by a z-screw backlash nut to hopefully help keep it from drooping.

@@NerdsWithFriends let me knowhow you get on with that! Been having a little struggle with PETG, sticks to well to the bed, and need to dial the retraction, was ruining 4mm at 40mm/s for PLA, but think I'm going to have to bump it up for the evil that is PETG (it's not that bad, just when you got an enclosed printerfor ABS you ever need to really use it, so Im a PETG rookie)

Pigeon Print no luck still. I just ordered some new thermistors- hopefully that will do it.
