I'd really love to see Wurdie do a video on stan culture, it's really picked a lot up since the beginning of the decade, and it's crazy to see so many people group up to treat the most downright booty or just straight up random shows, communities, games, and celebrities like actual religions and get set off over the most trivial criticisms directed at said community.
@cheeman59955 ай бұрын
That’s always been a thing and I feel like the only reason it’s more prevalent now is because our population as a whole is bigger. It’s nothing unique to our time at all people used to get crazy devoted over political figures and royalty in the 1800-1900s
@sovietunion76435 ай бұрын

I dont think it has to do with "edgy" humor coming back i just think that most people for the better part of 4-5 years put up with mediocre content and ideas and ways of just expressing themselves in order to not seem "dangerous" to society/other people and now most people realise that its just bullshit and that actually being politically correct doesnt mean that someone is a good person and vice versa. Am eastern european and i have a black friend who at some point we were discussing something about football/soccer about a player who was black and he noticed that all the articles referred to him as "african american" (he is Nigerian, Victor Oshimen) and "colorfull" (or of color) and he straight up said " why the fuck are these idiots calling us this , am black not a fucking rainbow".

I always thought that cancelling people online wouldn't change anything in society. And in fact it really doesn't. It just make people more arrogant and hateful about the world they live in. How can they change the world if they can't even change their behavior and speak nice and calm with people? That's a waste of time.
@huehuecoyote22345 ай бұрын
One of the problems people also tend to forget is… . . . . If you are harassing (cancelling if you want to call it that) someone over the internet, it is not gonna look good for them at all in the future as some jobs, schools and even places of residency (getting an apartment/condo) are requiring cyber vetting checks now, so they will be looking at your social media activity and such.
@xijinping8805 ай бұрын
you can be anonymous on social media
@huehuecoyote22345 ай бұрын
@@xijinping880 Edit: Here is an updated comment; took me a few days to think of. They can be, but the average social media user probably wouldn't go through (or know about) the measures necessary to cover their tracks or digital footprint. Deleting/deactivating your social media accounts doesn't mean its gone forever; it isn't visible to the public but the information can be obtained by authorities if needed. Most people are under the impression that you can be anonymous on social media but there is still some level of traceability to posts and accounts; when making an account on sites like instagram or twitter, they do need a phone number and usually a backup email. They could be an absolute nobody who deleted all their posts or accounts but there is still data retention/archival from those social media companies and if a subpoena is filed alongside a lawsuit, those companies can provide all the deleted/incriminating stuff from that user that attempted to get rid of the accusations/evidence/allegations.
@sneezyfido5 ай бұрын
That is the point. I maintain the complaints flow at my employer. One of our employees was targeted for expressing an opinion that this person disagrees with. They cherrypicked parts of the exchange, projected their indignation on the company, suggesting that not 'taking action' implies that the company supports (extrapolation of projected assumptions, overal pretty bad stuff). Obviously the intended action was that our employee needed to be publicly denounced and fired. My response was that we are compelled to full cooperation to police enquiry if our employee decides to file for harassment. Never heard of them again.
@huehuecoyote22345 ай бұрын
@@sneezyfido Yep; reminds me of the mike tyson quote "Social media made Y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it." The moment people realize anonymity is out the window they are much more likely to keep to themselves. People need to keep in mind that anonymity is not exactly 100% attainable on the internet; if people continue having the mentality that they can be anonymous on the internet with a sock puppet account they would probably engage more in destroying peoples lives or anything if they feel they could get away (losing nothing) with it or be shielded by mobs/masses. Most cancel culture campaigns are not just destructive to the person being "cancelled" but it definitely can be for the masses of people engaging in making a "cancellation" happen.

We used to have a saying from the 20th century. "Don't feed the trolls". That is what these cancel everything peeps are. They are basically screeching trolls. Just ignore them long enough, and they go away. They just want attention as if they were spoiled children that haven't been fed yet. I do not advocate not feeding your children even if they are spoiled. you should, or you are a bad person. Children aren't trolls.

To add some nuance here, the issue was never with “streamers” or “content creators” being canceled. You can still upload videos, no one’s negative opinion of you impacts your ability to make money as long as your videos still get views. The real victims of cancel culture are the people who work 9-5 jobs, and have the no life’s on Twitter (X) or what have you, spamming their employer because they said something “offensive” decades ago and say it reflects poorly on the company. That gets them fired. That takes away their source of income for them and their family. The ruins their life. I do agree this is becoming less and less common, but I feel like your portrayal of the issue purely from the lens of a content creator/streamer ignored a lot of important parts of what makes up cancel culture and how negatively it can impact a persons life.

This 100%, this is one of the problems i have with the whole "oh just don't care about cancel culture and it would just magically go away" mindset that this video and several other content creators who say this seem to forget. They focus specifically on the celebrities who when they can cancel can have enough FU money to live off of that cancelling has little to no affect on them or people who say they are being cancelled when they actually aren't and go "see guys cancel culture doesn't matter that much". The people who live pay check to pay check DON'T have the luxury of FU money to not be negatively affected by being cancelled. Its like a murderer who fires a crossbow or bow and arrow and hits the tree next to you missing their shot and they say "well its ok because he missed and didn't kill you" but the problem is they only see the people who the murderer missed and not the people who died. As well as the problem being that they are shooting average people (doxing and calling their employers) and also that they are shooting (mostly innocent) people in the first place.

Cancel Culture was so bad back then it'd just now everyone gets that minute of fam from something. Also people get canceled for things that are dumb, or just are not true. Also, DDosing is so stupid, and people shouldn't ever be doing that unless they are CRIMINALS who need to be in prison, which is never the case. That's why cancel culture is so daunting.

This Video presents a compelling and thought-provoking analysis of the current state of cancel culture. The content creator skillfully dissects the origins, evolution, and potential decline of cancel culture, offering a balanced perspective that encourages critical thinking. What sets this video apart is its ability to foster open dialogue rather than promoting a one-sided narrative. It acknowledges the importance of accountability while questioning the effectiveness and potential consequences of cancel culture. Personally, I appreciate this video because it challenges my own preconceptions and stimulates reflection on the nuances of social justice movements. It serves as a refreshing departure from the polarized discourse often associated with cancel culture discussions, making it a valuable contribution to the ongoing conversation about accountability and justice in the digital age.
