I believe the retirement crisis will get even worse. Many struggle to save due to low wages, rising prices, and exorbitant rents. With homeownership becoming unattainable for middle-class Americans, they may not have a home to rely on for retirement either.

Heck, it used to be even better than free for me, at least. Every time I used any ATM, they credited my account $5. Since most ATM fees were between $2-$3, I basically made money whenever I had to use the ATM. Not to mention, there were three times back in 2008-2009 where I had cash flow issues (only a small amount, $40-$50), and all three times, not only did they forgive the bounce fee, but they also credited my bank account with the $40 or $50, or whatever the amount was, so that the check would clear. I asked how I had to repay it because my account would not be negative since they actually gave me money. They literally said, "Don't worry about it." What bank does that?! I mean, really, they not only waived the bank fee for the bounce, but they gave me money and never asked for it back. I have been loyal to Schwab ever since, even if that is not their policy now. No bank has ever treated me like that except for Schwab.

I've been a Schwab customer for over a third of a century now and they have always been very customer focused and provided very good service and value. That's unfortunately not very common these days. I hope Schwab will continue their path for the next thirty years or longer. I grew up in Germany and this kind of long-term approach to business is more common there. The leading tech companies like Google, Apple etc. are probably striving for something similar, to stay leading and relevant for many more decades. They might take a good look at Schwab to see how this is done - even though the pace of change is probably much higher in the tech space.

My Brokerage was TD Ameritrade. Schwab purchased them and just recently integrated all previous TD Ameritrade clients into the Schwab platform. That was a mistake. Schwab should have kept TD Ameritrade as it was. It was a far superior website. What Schwab did was akin to purchasing Kentucky Fried Chicken and then changing the recipe. Because of this, I will be closing my account and opening a new one wit Fidelity or Etrade. It is a challenge to find some comparable to TD Ameritrade (RIP).

For short-term trading, TD Ameritrade was very good. Almost as good as Interactive brokers from what I heard, but with lower costing trades. Great charts and analytical tools too. Schwab is still very good for long-term investing. Just above average for short-term trading. Many TD Ameritrade short-term traders are unhappy because they view it as a downgrade like yourself.

@@brianadams6204 Since I had a ROTH with Fidelity and was already familiar with Fidelity, I moved 95% of my funds from Schwab to Fidelity. I was with TDA since they were just Ameritrade (late 1990's early 2000's). Their website was so streamlined. The quick ticket was very fast to fill in (Schwab's takes longer). With TDA, you could create several watch lists and open all of them simultaneously. I think I had about 10 of them. It would take 30 seconds to go through each stock on those lists. Not so with Schwab. You can only open 1 at a time. The educational material was 2nd to none. Little things like showing whether the volume of a particular stock at any given moment during the day was considered "low, average, or high" or quickly clicking on reports showing insider trades, analyst reports, etc. I am not knocking their customer service, just their cumbersome website for those of us who did not use Think or Swim. So, instead of learning Schwab's website, I decided to better familiarize myself with Fidelity's.

Things are strange right now. The US dollar is becoming less valuable because of inflation, but it's getting stronger compared to other currencies and things like gold and property. People are turning to the dollar because they think it's safer. I'm worried about my retirement savings of about $420,000 losing value because of high inflation.

The market's uncertainty is one of the reasons I have my daily investment decisions guided by an investment advisor, as their skill set is built around going long and also shorting the market to maximize returns, both employing profit-oriented strategy and laying off risk as a hedge against inevitable downtrends, and when combined with exclusive analysis, it's nearly impossible not to outperform. Since the 2020 pandemic, I've made more than $1.5 million after subsequent investments thus far.
