Thomas Tuchel has been sacked after only six games in the Premier League and a poor defeat last night in their opening Champions League group fixture against Dinamo Zagreb.
Chelsea have struggled on the pitch, under-performing far too often, even after a transfer window that seen them spend over £250m.
JJ Bull and Liam Twomey discuss just why Tuchels time at Chelsea has come to an end.

It looked to me in the Zagreb game like the Tuchel had lost the locker room. No offense to the Croatian minnows, but they are among the 3 worst teams in the competition. Pitch was fine, and Chelsea even got Kovacic back. Chelsea should have won that game confortably even after the early set back goal. But Chelsea looked devoid of ideas and confidence going forward.

Unimpressed with Boehly and Co so far. Transfer window was totally mishandled, helped destabilize the squad. Got rid of upper management without replacing it. Sloppy work. It did seem like Tuchel had lost the dressing room, and had done so for a while. Given the circumstances at the club, though, he did well and will be missed.
@markvargus6519
@markvargus6519 Жыл бұрын
I suspect that the upper management situation is a shift in the structure. Todd Boehly has a background where he owns several American sports clubs (LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, LA Spark, Cloud9). Once he purchased Chelsea and got a look at the structure he probably wanted to change it to something closer if not identical to what has worked for the LA Dodgers- MLB (been in the playoffs every year since 2013, 3 world series appearances and 1 win in the last 7 years) and the LA Lakers (one of the most recognized and valuable teams in the NBA). So there will be new people replacing those lost, but probably with different titles. Honestly, while its not ideal that its taking time to refill those positions, its completely understandable and from the viewpoint of an American who has watched a lot of team turmoil over the last 20 years, its not something to stress over.

Honestly, when you put it that way, then I can sort of see that the sacking isn't actually all that insane, once you've lost the dressing room, that's kinda it, yeah it's unfair to some, but it's just how football is and Tuchel isn't the first casualty of that. Football is more than just tactics, it's about people, humans, everything just seemed so tense between everyone for both the staff and the player's, heck if I was Tuchel, I would've resigned much sooner, there's just no way around the results and the dressing room, once those are gone, so are you.

The Thing is there us a lot of speculation that he has lost the changingroom but there is hardly any proof. And I actually doubt that this is the case. I mean we ar talking about a man who managed psgs changingroom sucessfully. He is probably the only persion in the world who managed to make Neymar work for the defens. (At psg he was sacked because of persional issues with the bosses and not because he lost connection to the players). I think he is just a pain to work with and the new bosses didn‘t like that and it hurt their ego so they fired him. And honestly I think that will have a longterm negative effect for chelsea.

Many people are saying that Chelsea regressed in recent months but when you look at the team, it overall just isn’t as good as it was before, even with the reinforcements. Most of their “expensive signings” only came in at the end of the transfer window which means they’ve barely even had a handful of games to get used to the squad, whilst important players like Mendy and Sterling are completely out of form. The midfield has lost Kante to injury which means there’s no real defensive midfield cover, which is why they’ve been forced to play with 5 at the back to compensate. Chelsea also missed out on nearly all of their first choice transfers, which means that the expensive signings they DID get were more out of desperation to plug holes rather than carefully planned and calculated transfers made months in advance. If Tuchel has lost the dressing room then you can’t do much about that, but Tuchel is undoubtedly a world-class manager tactically who’s about as good as Chelsea can really get right now.

Also tbh the signings this summer were clearly made by someone who not really knows what football is about he got players not fitting into his system (same thing last year with lukaku) which likely is why there were problems with the new owners And yeah from december on they had problems but i mean with all the things around the pitch i wouldnt wonder

@@bri1085 considering the starting point is that Tuchel won the UCL with a side that was absolute trash under Lampard in just 2-3 months, then anything less than winning is a regression. And as someone else said, it’s only been a few months not an entire year. When Tuchel won the UCL that was about the peak of that generation of Chelsea players and especially after being hit with the drama of all the Russian sanctions, it was obvious that massive changes would be needed to rebuild a squad full of ageing, mediocre, and underperforming players, but Chelsea weren’t able to make any moves until only a few weeks ago, by which time it was already too late.

It's so strange to me that the management didn't think let's try and make it work with Tuchel, let's put a system in place that allows him and the team to flourish. How many other elite managers are available now? If it didn't work after this season then fair enough you part ways. It basically looks like they're looking long-term but haven't really done any planning for what the structure will be behind the manager. I love Potter, who doesn't, but if the owners think he can come in and be incredibly successful I think they're a bit naive. Potter is clearly a brilliant manager, but the structure behind him at Brighton is equally brilliant, they work beautifully well in tandem. At Chelsea, at least at the moment the way it seems, is that it's a shitshow. But who knows, maybe this will be a masterstroke lol

It depends entirely on where his head was at. Sounds like he wasn’t happy with some changes… probably moody, May have decided he’s not enjoying it anymore. Happened with Pochettino, as much as Spurs fans wanted him to stay, I don’t think it would be easy to turn back time as if it never happened. Clean slate is sometimes best (and he’s never going to quit given how much he’d receive for getting sacked).

From what’s been reported, it seems like their working relationship was also a reason why he got sacked. Tuchel preferred a more detached approach while the owners wants a manger who will engage more with them and other departments. I think Boehly wants to establish a long term and stable project so it was important to make sure they get right manager for that structure and I think Potter is perfect. Considering how well run the Dodgers are, I think Boehly will hire the right people and establish a good structure. They’ve only just bought the club and they were in a buffer period where they had to sack members from the old regime who had a different approach to managing a club. It’s been a little hectic and I think they’ve done alright with the signings they’ve made considering the situation. Also worth to mention that potters back room staff is quite important to Brighton’s structure as well,particularly his recruitment analyst, Kyle Mcauley who looks to be following Potter to Chelsea.

The most brain dead sacking in a long time. Yeah sure Chelsea have been regressing since the beginning of the year, but what was he supposed to do? A new owner comes in, who can't give Tuchel any of the signings he needed. Add to that Tuchel needed to act as a director and coach during the summer for the transfers which should never happen. Most of the signings chelsea needed only arrived towards the end of the window and even then they still lack some players. The squad is unbalanced, to the point it will be impressive if they can secure top 4 this season with Arsenal and Spurs improving massively and backing their managers. Not to mention, who are you gonna replace Tuchel with? The only managers better than him are Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti. Other managers who could be available would be a downgrade. Tuchel proved PSG wrong in sacking him after leading that lacking squad to a UCL final, he will do the same with Chelsea no doubt.

@@Hamox sure, but no team or manager can expect to get such a perfect window, with every signing they want, and all early in the window. It never works out like that. And then remember, they set the all time 1 window transfer spending record, with 273 million spent. Ridiculous to say he didn't get what he needed. What I do agree is with all that change, it would surely take at least 10-15 games for such an overhauled squad to gel and play well. Not at all fair to judge him before he had a run with this basically new squad.

@@delirious13440 And? None of those players were his preferred targets. He wanted Lewandowski, but had to settle for Aubameyang. He wanted Raphinha, got Sterling. He wanted Kounde, had to settle for Fofana. While Chukwuemenka, Zakaria and Slonina have potential, but are not gonna be starters any time soon. Not to mention Cucurella wasn't a necessary signing, considering Chilwell is pretty damn good already. He desperately wanted de Jong and a world class striker to help balance the team. Aubameyang came way too late, and no good midfielder came in. Now chelsea are stuck with a bunch of players Tuchel scouted, and yet they only gave him 6 games into the season... If you're gonna spend money to bring in players, then you need to give the manager the time he needs to make this new look chelsea team click. You don't just splash cash on players and then sack the manager 5 days after the window ends. Especially not a manager like Tuchel who you simply cannot replace with anyone right now. He's not been able to solve the chance creation problems that goes beyond the start of this season. And things seems to have gotten worse since last season. He was dropped from the starting 11 after playing well and scoring goals. When dropped from the 11, Tuchel said he understand it's not fair and that other players deserve to play too. But at the same time with how things went The board and Boehly doesn't see Tuchel as future since Tuchel doesn't really rate young players for example he doesn't rate Broja and bought Auba, and don't have plan for Gilmour in his team. Also the young players that just came haven't got opportunity. While the new board vision is to build for the long future and in this youngsters.
