My 2 female chins hate each other. I separated them but one still tries to find the other to fight if I let her out of the cage. Its been several years and they still have it out for each other. Chins hold grudges more than me LOL

I'm getting 2 chins on Thursday 2 males and I've got a 2 story cage and I've bought 2 of everything so they hopefully don't end up fighting.

I have a male chinchilla , he is about 7 months old and I wanted to get him a female one , so I went to the store and bought one female , she is about 1 years old , when I placed them together they started fighting so I took the female out and placed her in another cage! Today I tried again but they started a fight! After that I took the male out of the big cage What should I do ??

Hi Ally I only have 1 chinchilla and when I give him a lot of pellets he quits eating his hay. So I have to limit his pellets. Is that ok?

as long as he's doesn't lose weight that's fine. It's more of an issue when you have two.

Hello! I have had chinchillas two brothers as pets for a few years. Your channel here on KZfaq has really helped me so much in taking care of them the right way. My interest in chinchillas has only increased though and I really want to breed angora chinchillas. I have come into contact with a breeder who is willing to sell me two Angoras. A male angora she says is silver in color. A common gray angora female. The breeder says they will make a nice pair. What I'm wondering is can I put them together at once or should I wait until they settle into their new home? I know that you then have to remove the male when she is in the end of the pregnancy, but should the male then have to live by himself in his own cage until they can live together again? And I have received pictures of the male and I doubt if he is angora. Would you like to help and check his picture? Sincerely, Maria from Sweden.

Hi with angoras it's best to breed an angora to an angora carrier rather than two angoras together. Only because breeding angoras to angoras can cause weaker/ inferior babies so it's always best to breed angoras to carriers. The breeder maybe is trying to sell you a Silver angora and a standard grey angora carrier? I can certainly have a look at the photos for you,if you send me a message on instagram. With regards to putting them together, if they are both of breeding age so over 10 months of age and are a healthy weight (over 600g) you can try pairing them straight away. If they are younger than that or are not heavy enough you need to wait before pairing them. Ideally you wouldn't put the dad back in until the babies have weaned and the female is back in breeding condition (looks healthy and is the correct weight) However I do know that some breeders put the male back in roughly 2 weeks after the babies are born. The males can't back breed with the female at that point but personally I like to give my chinchillas a longer break between kits if that makes sense.

@@AllysAnimalAntics Thanks for the reply! What is your name on Instagram? Oh she the breeder didn't mention that it can be dangerous to breed two that are angoras. She asked if I wanted an angora carrier and an angora. I then said that I would like two Angoras and she suggested these two.

@@mariahautala7912 My instagram is@Allys animal antics 🙂 It's not necessarily dangerous to breed two angoras together as long as both are really top quality , but I do find Angoras (in the UK at least) are still not very strong. To try and strengthen them I breed Angoras to standard angora carriers. The quality might be better in other parts of Europe.

So friggin frustrating. Did you say males more prone to aggression? I hear females everywhere else

Another myth perpetuated on the internet. There is no real difference between males and females in terms of behaviour. It's more to do with individual personalities of the chinchillas as to whether they are aggressive or not . That being said in same sex pairs males can get more aggressive with each other once they reach sexual maturity, especially if other females are present. I have had to seperate far more male pairs than I ever have female pairs because of fighting over the years (I have over 50 chinchillas, and have been keeping chinchillas for nearly 30 years) Now where this myth comes from is when you are breeding chinchillas and you have a male and female together the female is more likely to beat the crap out of the male than vice versa. When a female goes into season they do definitely become aggressive towards the males. But that is simply not the case when you have female only pairings, if the two females get along they will normally get along for life. An example of this is I can have ten or more female chinchillas that are not housed together out for playtime at the same time and have no issues or aggression, they all get along fine, I have a video showing this. There is no way in hell I would be able to do that with the males because they would fight. Don't believe all the things you read on the Internet, just because one person has said it and everyone else copies and pastes doesn't make it true.

Your comment about unlimited pellets. Another reason to remember ANYTHING can be posted by ANYONE. Every chinchilla source besides you says limit pellets so they eat more hay. Getting full on pellets doesn't give them tooth wear they need

Lots and lots myths out there unfortunately on the internet and people just parrot learning without questioning. Speak to any reputable breeder and they will tell you unlimited pellets is the best way. They will eat hay regardless , limiting pellets can lead to malnutrition. Chinchillas aren't rabbits , they don't over eat pellets!
