Why Christians shouldn't bow to "homosexual marriage"

We need more courageous Christians like Calvin Robinson.
Currently, Church of England members of the clergy are not permitted to carry out same-sex marriages, whilst homosexual Anglicans are required to remain celibate. In recent years, however, the Church of Wales, the Scottish Episcopal Church, and, most recently, the Methodist Church, have all embraced marriage equality. In February 2023, the General Synod met to discuss the issue, raising the question across the Anglican Communion and Christendom: should Christianity extend the sacraments to same same-sex marriages? This is part of Rev. Calvin Robinson’s response.

Great, he can follow the Bible and not get married to another man. Marriage, though, in many ways is a secular state contract, and his religion, or anyone else's, has no bearing on that contract. That includes the secular rights of persons in countries that monarchs and clergy name themselves as the heads of the church, synagogue, or mosque.

This is one of the most dangerous phrases I've ever heard. Imagine Hitler using this phrse or Staling, or any other dictator to justify his believes. The problem, not with religion in itself, but with so many Christians an religious people is that they are so sure that their truth is the real and unique truth. They are not willing to doubt their believes, and someone that is not willing to doubt in what their think and believe is someone that can't recognize their wrong doings. At the end, this level of "faith" ends up causing way more harm than the good it intends.

I would argue that he's being dishonest about his real intent, He's not trying to defend God and God's opinion, he's defending his opinion of God against the opinions of his fellow Christian. He's not battling evil, he's participating in a power struggle.
@Hannah-fe4yf
@Hannah-fe4yf 2 ай бұрын
@@Grokford Well, yeah he’s participating in a power struggle, but I don’t really see your point, no matter how accurate or inaccurate our opinions of Gods intent are we still need to talk about them and we all have them, we can’t just throw our hands up in the air and say, “Well we can never know what God really meant so I suppose it doesn’t matter what we do. Do whatever you want.” We all have to read and study God’s word to try to understand what Gods law is, and yes we will form our opinions on them, but I don’t see any of that as dishonest, if you asked they guy he would confirm he honestly believed what he’s preaching, there’s no dishonesty in saying what you honestly believe.
@Grokford
@Grokford 2 ай бұрын
@@Hannah-fe4yf "no matter how accurate or inaccurate our opinions of Gods intent are we still need to talk about them and we all have them," I agree completely, And that's precisely my criticism, he's not talking about his opinions, he's presuming them, and condemning others based on his presumptions. Which is one thing when you're talking to people who already agree with you, but when the purpose of a speech is to debate or convince people presuming you're right and going after those who disagree with you doesn't actually give people much to think about and can make you seem petty or arrogant. Either one of which wouldn't be convincing the latter of which would actually push people away. "We all have to read and study God’s word to try to understand what Gods law is, and yes we will form our opinions on them, but I don’t see any of that as dishonest" I also agree with you here, It's not dishonest to have an opinion. What I do find dishonest though, is pretending as if your opinion is divine fact. It falls into that image problem of seeming arrogant, but it also feels especially slimey because it seems to imply that you're impartial and that your detractors are caught up in their own opinions. When the reality is that everyone's talking about their opinions. I fully encouraged people to have an opinion, but I don't like it when people pretend that the opinions aren't theirs.
@Hannah-fe4yf
@Hannah-fe4yf 2 ай бұрын
@@Grokford I think it’s kind of like belief, no one has opinions because they just want to state they believe in it, he’s speaking it as divine fact because he believes it as divine fact so he presents it that way. Just how Christians believe God exists whether we believe in him or not, Robinson believes the verses of the Bible condemning homosexuality to be a fact of God’s law whether he believes in them or not, and therefore he doesn’t see it as a personal belief but something universal that applies to everyone and everything. So I still don’t see it as dishonest or slimy but I can understand why it wouldn’t be convincing, which is why he appeals to God’s authority on the matter not his own, because he knows his own personal opinion isn’t what should decide the direction of the church but God’s should and so he makes the case it is God declaring this rather than himself. He appeals to Gods authority because he knows that’s who Christian’s ultimately will listen to, or should, and he genuinely believes it is what God wants. Maybe he is blinded by pride or arrogance and is just disingenuously using Gods authority for his own will, but I just don’t see it. Likewise, people are meant to be the messengers of God, so if we don’t speak about the laws God has declared in his own authority, in his own book, why would anyone listen? Even more so, people shouldn’t listen, because we’re not God. Long story short, Calvin doesn’t believe this because it’s his opinion he believes it because he believes in Gods law which condemns Homosexuality.
@Grokford
@Grokford 2 ай бұрын
@@Hannah-fe4yf "... he’s speaking it as divine fact because he believes it as divine fact so he presents it that way...Robinson believes the verses of the Bible condemning homosexuality to be a fact of God’s law...and therefore he doesn’t see it as a personal belief but something universal that applies to everyone and everything. " Yes, that's my concern. By failing to consider other perspectives you generally have a less objective understanding of your own beliefs which inhibits your own understanding of them and why you believe them. And also generally, it doesn't lend itself to helpful discussion and gives the poor impression that you have an inflated ego/ But in this specific case he's specifically in an audience of people who don't agree with him whom he is supposed to be trying to convince. But instead of exploring his ideas, trying to explain them or making an argument, he spends his idea criticizing other Christians for not agreeing with him. Which seems off topic, and is probably losing him support in the room. But it's also just generally odd to say something to the effect of "God agrees with me" to people who already think you don't know much about god. Specifically addressing Queer-affirming Christians with that line of thought isn't going to do much, but it will cost the attention and trust of everyone else in the room. "because he knows his own personal opinion isn’t what should decide the direction of the church" You see, I'm not sure that he does know that; or if he does it's somewhere deep down. Because he's refusing to acknowledge his opinions as his in the first place. "He appeals to Gods authority because he knows that’s who Christian’s ultimately will listen to, or should, and he genuinely believes it is what God wants." I wouldn't be surprised if that was his rationale, but like I said earlier when two people are disagreeing about God, saying "well God agrees with me" is more likely to discredit you entirely than it is to convince people. "Maybe he is blinded by pride or arrogance and is just disingenuously using Gods authority for his own will, but I just don’t see it." I would be surprised if he were consciously scheming to lie. But I do think that a refusal too engage with the nature of opinions and turning a debate into a memento to your own nonexistent martyrdom, in all likelihood, comes from an irresponsible lack of awareness and most probably a but if an inflated ego. "Likewise, people are meant to be the messengers of God, so if we don’t speak about the laws God has declared in his own authority, in his own book, why would anyone listen?" Well, I'm a teacher, and in my experience, there's a big difference between giving people information and teaching. But the fundamental question here, on this theological issue, as well as most others, is that people don't agree on what God has said. So I would argue, that if we truly care about what God said then we should spend a lot more time discussing why we think what we do and a lot less time calling anyone who doesn't share our perspective a heretic. "Long story short, Calvin doesn’t believe this because it’s his opinion he believes it because he believes in Gods law which condemns Homosexuality." Well, what you're actually saying here is that you and Calvin share the same opinion about the message of scripture on this issue. Which is fine to say, but it's not an argument. Because the fact that there's a disagreement means that there's a lot of people who look at the same text and don't have the same conclusions as you. I have no problem with stating our individual opinions, but I have to ask what it's for? Because if we're just stating our opinions with no attempt to convince or explain ourselves to those who disagree, then my next guess as to the intent is that it's meant to either condemn those who disagree(which I don't approve of) or it's meant to force consensus or imply that there's more agreement than there is, neither of which seem honest.

There is a difference between Christian iniquity and Muslim iniquity. The Christian is disobeying the example and teaching of Christ, and so can be called to repentance. On the contrary, when Muslims engage in polyamory, paedophilia, child marriage, slavery, rape, murder, genocide, looting, oppression, feudalism, forced conversion, honor-killing, fascism etc they are following the personal example of Muhammed and so cannot repent, because there is no higher standard to hold before them. That difference is at the heart of the problem with Islam.

Definitely thanks for understanding even across the tense lines. I think that there are also very concerning things that are going on in certain countries (in Africa in particular) that call themselves a “Christian nation” (although there is also plenty of ancestral practices going on anyway), when they hunt down lgbtq identifying people. While I definitely understand and believe Christian doctrine (was born again in 2021), I also completely disagree and am disgusted by leaders who oppress certain groups for power. Even in my parents country, the leader is corrupt money wise but fakes being a Christian. I do feel so much pressure as a gen z Christian to agree with things I can’t actually affirm, and I think that with all this growing hatred in politics and beyond, we need to understand that we will just have to disagree and be civil about it. We have the freedoms to advocate and speak about what we care about, but we don’t need to hate each other. Based on the things I was doing and thought process before I was a genuine believer, I would have hated myself and oppressed myself if I believed that as a Christian my job is to ridicule people or outright oppress them. My job is to reach out and tell what I know is the truth, but that doesn’t include being uncivil and hateful about it. As someone who used to be into American politics I can no longer read articles anymore. 😂 One girl in class looked so shocked when I told her I attend Bible study. She thought that I would be the usual depiction of Christians that’s seen on the news. 😅

Proud of what exactly? Hate and intolerance? This man knows nothing about Jesus Christ or Christianity. He is very lost. Gay people are born the way god made them. Being gay is not a choice. He is choosing to pick one single obscure passage in the bible that says "man shall not lay down with another man" and he literally disregarded everything else. Spreading this kind of hate and intolerance towards people that are only guilty of being exactly who God made them to be is not love. What would Jesus do? How would he behave towards Gay people? I guarantee it's not behaving the way that you and other hateful Christians have. Making them feel ashamed of who and what they are, devaluing them, driving many to suicide or causing them to believe that they are evil and that there is something wrong with them. Causing many to self harm. These hateful Christians, are doing this kind of emotional abuse to children. Children that grow up feeling like there is something wrong with them for being exactly who God made them to be. This intolerance and and lack of love is what's sinful. I think that God would be offended and ashamed at the way that misguided people such as yourself treat, judge and disrespect his other children. Gay people deserve the same rights we all have. They deserve to enter into loving marriages if that's what they choose to do. Not allowing this, is like not allowing African Americans to have the same rights as white people. It's the same ignorance and intolerance that caused both of these problems. Love others and as long as they are loving, good people that care about others support them. That's what Jesus would do.

Wait, what "need more priests????!!!?" As Disciples of Christ, I believe He called us ALL: Matt. 28; 18-20 "18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go [a]therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” NKJV It's not up to our ministers to carry this message, as Rev. Calvin Robinson stated, it's every, single, Born-Again, Baptized, Believer, in our Lord, Jesus Christ to boldly stand on His word, not backing down, not cowering, not cow-towing to the woke mob!!! It's up to US!!! As I recently told my born-again, saved 31 yro son now in all his "wokeness-heavy-reavy-enlightenness," what your hearing are the very loud voices of the few who (due to the money behind the media), have the attention because they are screaming the loudest (for now), in all their "tolerance," dictate that EVERYONE who disagrees with them be "canceled," shut down, and shut up because we dare to call them out in their hypocrisy!!! This is the antithesis of what tolerance truly is. They don't want tolerance they want power and control. Period. Because, the last stronghold to them receiving that power and control is the HUGE numbers of Christians around the globe who are willing to stand up and call them out on their intolerant, blasphemous, beliefs and behaviors. If WE as believers were truly living out Matt. 28: 18-20, ours would be the loudest voices heard and Ministers like Rev. Calvin Robinson, here, wouldn't need to do it for us. So the question comes down to, if you're willing to "like" this video, are you brave enough to share it????!!!! #whatibelieve

@@sahibjotathwal8198 Well many religions actually have explicit roles for Queer people and prior to the age of European imperialism it was rare to find anti-gay outside of Western Europe. The Bible never defines marriage and despite what pop culture might tell Adam and Eve were never described as married. From the Christian perspective there’s no biblical indication that God created marriage at all. The main reason, as I understand it, that marriage is considered sacred is because the medieval church wanted to control who could and couldn’t get married for political reasons; so they turned marriage into a religious rite.

Watching this for the first time he had me very convinced at first, however after watching it 3 times i realized it still begged the question: why is it a sin for 2 men to marry within the church? A man and a woman can have Agape, or a sacrificial or divine love, but 2 men cannot? I agree that the Quran and other religions should be held to the same standard as christianity is, for all religions experience folly and corruption within their respective churches or places of worship to some degree. However, We must be careful in the prospect of bringing about these changes, for it could definitely blur the line.

Because marriage was designed as a powerful institution with the aims of raising a family. Gay people can't do this, so it's lust. As he says in the video, do not confuse love with lust. In christianity, marriage is not some 'let's make it official party'. It is sacred and a declaration of duty and responsibility. Gay people cannot fulfil this pledge, regardless of whether they adopt or not because sodomy in itself is a sin. It doesn't make any sense to sanction a sin in a holy matrimony. In fact, it is blasphemes!

🐟 27. MARRIAGE & THE FAMILY: THE DEFINITION OF “MARRIAGE”: Marriage is the contractual union of a man with one or more women, PRIMARILY for the purpose of procreation and child-rearing, irrespective of whether or not any progeny ultimately ensue from the union. In other words, “marriage” is simply a term given to the concept of human mating conventions, as the mating customs of human beings are far more involved than those of non-human animals. However, no matter the complexity of human marriage rites, rituals, and connubial customs, one can never deny the blatantly-obvious fact that “marriage” is essentially a word that we have given to the mating mores of the Homo sapiens species. Unless one happens to believe the infantile fairy tale that humans were fashioned out of clay by the “Big Guy upstairs”, it is reasonable to assume by the processes of deduction, induction, and abduction, that the institution of marriage evolved in our species from a primitive mate selection system (similar to that of modern apes) to our present-day marriage conventions, involving a superfluity of elaborate social norms, rules, regulations, laws, and naive superstitions. Therefore, it is simply nonsensical (and downright evil) to ascribe matrimony to homosexual unions! See the following chapter in this regards. In the case of a couple entering marriage with the knowledge that one or both parties is infertile, the SECONDARY purposes of matrimony, indicated below, should be observed. The fact that progeny cannot ensue from such a union does not negate its validity. Of course, a childless couple have the option to either adopt orphans or to raise (or partially raise) a child of a close relative, the latter of which is not uncommon in certain cultures, such as in The Philippines, where the average number of children per family was, until the 1980s, six offspring per couple. It is immoral for homosexual couples to raise children, unless there are no married couples willing and able to care for the children in question, which would be extremely unlikely in any scenario short of an apocalyptic event. In order for children to grow into well-adjusted adults, able to produce subsequent generations of wholesome human beings, both masculine and feminine parental role models are utterly indispensable. POLYGAMY has been taught by all the major religious traditions. Unfortunately, the “westernized” religious cults seem to have done away with this practice for unbeknown reasons. The rationale for polygamy is simply due to the fact that every woman needs a husband, and a certain proportion of men are destined to die as bachelors due to female hypergamy, which is a natural trait of women (even if it may seem unfair). As a general rule, men who belong to the business/landlord class of society, and monarchs, alone have the concession to practice polygamy, because, as any married man will acknowledge, a woman is (in practically every instance) extremely demanding of his material resources. The couple* should be brought together by their respective parents, and optionally, some sort of public nuptial ceremony performed. Once the couple has been engaged to be married, they should not break the agreement, unless one party has been proven to have lost his or her virginity with a third party. Obviously, after the wedding, the marriage contract cannot be legally broken, unless one or both parties has committed adultery, or one party has chosen to no longer carry out his or her marital duties (for instance, if the husband refuses to materially-support his wife, or the wife refuses to perform domestic chores for her master, both of which are lawful grounds for DIVORCE). See also the entries “divorce”, “law”, and “legal” in the Glossary. Therefore, the widespread belief that marriage is the issuance of a government certificate to two persons who happened to have “fallen in love”, is totally and utterly alien to the facts of the matter, as well as to the practice of matrimonial norms for virtually the entirety of human history (and undoubtedly, prehistory). Government indoctrination is to blame for this. THE MARITAL ARRANGEMENT AND COMPATIBILITY: A RESPONSIBLE father will objectively evaluate the peculiar characteristics, virtues, idiosyncrasies, and shortcomings of his child from a relatively early age, and thereafter, seek a compatible spouse from the available pool of persons in his social circles. Unless his nation faces annihilation, the potential match should not be any closer to his child than a cousin. If a prospective couple do not belong to the same clan (and thereby do not share the same family name), it is probable that their genetic code is sufficiently divergent to create healthy offspring. An incestuous marriage should be condoned only if the human race is in danger of extermination, or possibly in the instance where an entire race or nation is on the verge of extinction. After all, it has been shown that all extant humans are the product of a genetically-unique matriarch. If one’s parents fail in their duty to select a suitable mate, one should very carefully choose a COMPATIBLE spouse. The recommended criteria used to evaluate marital compatibility are as follows: physical characteristics (such as relative height and sexual attractiveness), personality type, level of intelligence, emotional temperament, diet, cultural similarities, political ideology, religious affiliation, and life goals. One of the major causes of conjugal breakdowns in recent decades has been due to men and women coupling based solely (or at least predominantly) on sexual attraction and/or amorous attachments, with little consideration given to the other guiding principles, listed above. Romance rarely lasts more than a couple of years. Marriage is an institution based largely on PRACTICAL considerations, not on lustful feelings or on fleeting sentimentality. Without firm, practical reasons for a couple remaining conjugally-bound, they are susceptible to marital divorce.

We just don't agree with you and shouldn't be forced to. Also, strictly speaking, that way of living goes directly against the teachings of the bible. Why is it so important that trans people must be accepted into a religion that strictly speaks against that way of life. No not a question! I mean it as a statement. I personally have no issue with the trans community. I have many friends and even family that cater to or are living that life. However, even though I still love them, I do not and will not condone that way of living. I do not condemn. That is not my place. I do not judge either! But when I have it forced on me I take issue. Just because we don't agree with that way of life doesn't mean we're homophobics. It just means we don't agree. We're not afraid of you we just don't want that in our lives. They are not willing to doubt their believes, and someone that is not willing to doubt in what their think and believe is someone that can't recognize their wrong doings. Similar to you, I had a Hindu religion and atheist stages. They both eventually stunk and no Pastor or Priest had to reveal that to me. I found it myself by seeing the ever deeper and darker lowliness of some people regarded as the very top among those beliefs. What about Pastors or Priests who choose pedophilia, etc., you may say? They betrayed their Faith FOR THE IDEAS OF THE WORLD and became enemies of God. If you study theology for any tangible period of time, you will discover that the original Hebrew text did not say "Man shall not lay with another man". That was a translation error as it went across the languages. Fellow Christians who are reading this, please look into this!! If you believe in the devil and that he tricks you and masquerades as righteousness, you should be on the lookout for this kind of thing!! There is but one, simple question that I must ask: if a man who loves a fellow man has done naught but good his entire life, then why should such a man not be granted a place in the Kingdom of Heaven? If to love not out of lust but out of true and pure spiritual devotion to a person of the same sex is a sin, then where is the sinful act? Is it sinful simply because it is man-on-man? Is that enough reason to convict someone who has done nothing but good deeds? Who has followed the Lord's teachings without even batting an eye? Thank you for reading this comment. I hope that you, dear reader, have a nice rest of the day. With love, -Cookie

unfortunately you will not find a suitable answer here... christains pick and choose what to believe in, its why there's like a bakers dozen of branches in christianity. here's a video explaining the majority of their branches: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/quB8hpeAnL_FhZs.html its pretty on point with highlighting the good, the bad and the chomo's (child abusers)... you don't need another human being to tell you what god wants from you, god can tell you himself through time and understanding. my own grandmother told me that every time I said "I am gay" the devil smiles, so I asked her, "does the devil also smile when you kiss and tell your 2nd husband "i love you" even though you were taught to never remarry?", her silence was enough of an answer. these people pretend to know better and be better but they are only human, no more no less, never forget that.

Two men can love each other greatly, that can be the strongest friendship he has in his life like David and Jonathan. But sexual attraction as such is not love. None of us are accepted by God for good works. Good works are often an hinderance. When you come to God it is as a naked beggar without anything to offer. Casting yourself on His mercy and undeserved grace extended to us by Jesus. Your and my good works are like filthy rags according to the Lord.
