Why Code Lyoko is the Embodiment of my Childhood (As a 2000s Kid)

The phrase "Feeling old yet" would usually get a "Yes" answer from 90s kids. But who would've saw that time flew by fast enough to where 2000s kids are now giving that answer? Man do I miss my childhood. And what better way to represent that than the show that made it? What say we Return To The Past and talk about my favorite cartoon ever!

I can't be the only one who often pretended to be a Lyoko Warrior fighting alongside the main heroes against XANA's monsters as a kid playing in the backyard on a sunny day. My favorite monster used by XANA is the Scyphozoa,because it ALWAYS raised the stakes whenever it appeared. Throughout Season 2,the Lyoko Warriors almost always had to race against the clock to save Aelita before her memory was completely drained (up until the episode The Key). (Fun fact: the Scyphozoa's eerie cries are actually sampled from the cries of vultures!) Add to the fact that it could steal someone's DNA code sequence (like it did with Yumi in "Missing Link") or possess any one of the Lyoko Warriors (like it did with Aelita throughout Season 3 and William in "Final Round"),and you've got one dangerous monster that you'd have to be insane to try and fight by yourself.

Kindergarten for me. I remember I was one of the fortunate few at the time who had parents that could afford cable. Fall of 2003 and I caught Miguzi on CN airing it. Could definitely tell you it was when they were reairing all the episodes in order leading to the season 2 or 3 premiere. Then in class for indoor recess, I pretended that the play stove was the supercomputer, and the spare closet were the scanners. Teacher was definitely confused when she wondered why 3 of my friends insited on locking themselves inside the closet

i loved code lyoko, as European i see the episodes not much time after the original release, ahh i remember an early leak of the season 2 opening that shows Aelita's first devirtualization, i was like "WHAT!? WHY!? what happened!?" even because my local TV channel decided to start again the season 1 from the beginning to get a full season 2 broadcast license after... kids today can't understand the feeling of waiting for a new episode of a series everyday without on-demand services this show surely have a special place in my childhood note: if you wanna try to "use the supercomputer" try Code Lyoko IFSCL a fan game that simulates the super computer environment

Sorry for the late response, but dang, you're lucky to have caught the episodes, as it was airing, sooner than us Americans! But yeah, I'm always going to miss the old days of television before VOD became a thing. There was always something magical about coming home from school to catch a new episode of your favorite shows that can't ever be replicated with streaming services. It's also the reason why I miss Saturday Morning cartoons. I also have heard of IFCL! I've dabbled in it a bit in the past. It's a really good fangame!

I also want to add that as an audience member, I didn't feel like a bystander or outsider watching everything unfold. I felt like I was part of their friend group, and got to develop with them. Also, the music that Aelita played as DJ, and also the songs from the subdigitals, the transition music, We were robbed of a full soundtrack album release.

That was one of the best aspects of the show! If you've watched all the way to the end of the show, you felt like you know these guys in real life. The friend group is incredibly memorable and it gave a sense of belonging to plenty of kids who weren't popular enough back in the day to have a large group of friends! Also yes, its absolutely CRIMINAL how this show doesn't have a full OST release. Too many amazing songs in the show.

I don’t think I have a fav character from Code Lyoko.. They’re all so fleshed out and have really good writing, like even the side characters can be so inspiring- Take Sissi for example, she’s the stereotypical school ‘bully’ but she does like Ulrich and in several episodes she develops to be a better person.. which is undone by the return to the past. It’s just really interesting honestly.

Man, I only rediscovered Code Lyoko recently and it has been a huge trip down memory lane What a good show, I didn't even appreciate it for what it was, but it stuck with me for so long I was starting to think it was just something I made up By the way, there's a fan game that is still actively being worked on called IFSCL. I can still remember my the happy emotions I felt from watching Code Lyoko as a kid on Cartoon Network. I even remember the silly things I used to say at school to my friends and even some of my family members because of the show. Since you brought up rediscovery, a little fact about me is that during the brief period of 2008-2010, I honestly was starting to forget the show even existed since Cartoon Network abruptly took it off their channel. It wasn't until I rediscovered the show, at around 2011, via Kabillion from Comcast On Demand, and all the memories came back. I was able to appreciate it even more during that time! As for IFSCL, I have seen that! I've been paying attention to that project and the creator on social media to see the ongoing progress, and I couldn't be any happier of a Lyoko fan to see what a long way it came. The Fandom is blessed to have talent like that.

"Some of our most iconic moments were over ten years ago" more like over/nearly twenty years ago. 😅 I particularly like the fact that you point out that a lot of the frustrating and immature decisions the main cast makes comes from the fact that they are teenagers (or preteens in Jérémie's case). Specifically, they're teenagers under extreme amounts of stress dealing with ridiculous amounts of trauma. I feel like that's something that's often forgotten when discussing the cast of Code Lyoko, they're traumatized kids trying to save the world over and over again in the end, it makes sense that they're messy and emotional. I would have to disagree with your statement that the kids aren't traumatized though, while it isn't explored much (which is a shame in my opinion), it's pretty clear that the Lyoko Warriors harbor a lot of trauma from the experiences as the series goes in. Great video, always love seeing people talk about Code Lyoko.

At this point for me, 20 years ago was when I was 4 years old XD. Which I'd say is the earliest age where I can recall any memories of anything, lol. Yeah, the Lyoko Warriors felt like real kids, which is why most of their arguments/fights with one another didn't really bother me like it did for some fans of the series. As for the trauma, I'd like to agree with you in that sense, but it's as you said it wasn't explored much, lol. Which can lead the viewer to believe that the kids are doing just fine mentally. XD. Code Lyoko was my life man, from the first say I ever put any thought into doing this channel, I wanted to make sure Code Lyoko would be the first thing I'd talk about! Also BTW, love the profile picture. World Trigger is awesome! 👍

While not without some answered questions, (What happened to Aelitas mother, Whether or not Ulrich and Yumi would get together, The Mystery of Carthage) I thought the ending of the show was satisfying! All the characters got to discuss their feelings and thoughts about their time fighting Xana. And, some pretty cool montages of the fights of Lyoko. Overall, I think the ending of the show is pretty much exactly what the show needed. It didn't leave us on a cheap cliffhanger for a sequel series, and we got to see the team actually accept Sissi, finally, as a friend. Couldn't ask for anything more!

to the criticm of people saying season 1 is boring in my opinion season 1s should be at the bottom of barrel because their just starting out and trying to see where it could go I would consider an insult if there was a long runng series and season 1 was the best and to be fair that season has an overarching plot too

Season 1 honestly has so much charm to me. Despite the CGI and some of the fights being....questionable XD, I honestly come back to watch that season just as much as the others! It's just as you said, they were just trying to get their foot in to see where the show could go, by having a formulaic plot structure for the entirety of the season all the way until the last episode, "Code: Earth". Which honestly makes it easier for newcomers to jump in. Season 1 overall did a great job at building the foundation to what would eventually be an amazing show once Season 2 started. And for that, I'll always appreciate it!

Code Lyoko was so awesome but its always funny seeing Americans think that it was some niche thing because they got to watch it extremely late when in reality across Europe, predominately Eastern Europe where I am from, and rest of the developing world from Africa to Asia and South America was such a popular thing that every 2000s kid who had a cable watched religiously. My country even have a region-specific official Code Lyoko merchandise. I am very happy to see the show get a worldwide connected praise and attention it deserves and its truly sad to know that there wont be anything official from Code Lyoko franchise anymore as copyright to the show is now in the hands of god knows who
@Jman88933
@Jman88933 2 ай бұрын
I knew that Code Lyoko had its success in other countries but I didn't know it was THAT popular in the places you mentioned! The funny part was, in the mid 2000s(2005 or 2006, I forget) Code Lyoko had one of the networks highest viewership count on their channel in America. The show did so well financially over here but it sadly ended up being one of those shows that was quickly forgotten, about, in American, when it was taken off air because Cartoon Network never aired the series finale on their channel. You had to go to Cartoon Network's website in order to watch the last episodes on there, but most kids didn't even know that. So back in the day, the people who were invested in the show weren't given any closure to the show and thus it faded into the back of our brains as a lost memory. It had to take us 2000s kids to grow up and naturally rediscover the show thanks to KZfaq and social media. As for the rights of the show, the creators of the show answered this question in an interview a few months ago, and that the people who hold the rights to Code Lyoko nowadays is a popular animation company in french (I can't spell the name for the life of me lol) and if you didn't know, the creators got in touch with that company to get permission to use the rights of the Code Lyoko IP to possibly bring the show back!

@Jman88933
@Jman88933 2 жыл бұрын
From what I understood from my research, the creators didn't want to alienate or make it harder for kids to jump in on Code Lyoko Season 1 by having a plot from the very start. Which is why the first season was formulaic. Though, yes, I do wish Xana Awakens would've been introduced much sooner. As for the conflict, while I'm not fond of some of them presented in the show, you should keep in mind that these are kids within the age rage of 13-14. Drama, especially the absurdly petty kind, is extremely common at that age. So I can’t say it really hampered my experience. William on the other hand, I actually liked that he was a villain. It gave the Lyoko Warriors a new, and tough challenge each time they entered Lyoko, and it gave them a new goal to work towards when it came to their job. I understand your opinion and it's very valid.

Hello, my name is Ilpo Alanko, 22 years old, from Finland and I would like to tell you my opinion and TV series review about the Code Lyoko series and I hope you will also tell me your opinion about this review: I just want to say to you and all of you that Code Lyoko is a good series, but it has SO MANY OUTRAGEOUS PARTS!!!! First of all, in my opinion, these young people are a bit stupid jerks and idiots, when they have gotten involved far too much in such a thing, i.e. playing and fighting with dangerous artificial intelligence, which I don't think belongs to their age. And what's worse: they don't tell anyone about it at the end of the series. Because if they once saved the whole world from such a dangerous computer program aspiring to rule the world, and if at the end of the series they had told it publicly to everyone, then their actions would certainly have made them infinitely, immeasurably famous and they would have been crowned perhaps the GREATEST HEROES of all modern world history!!! Maybe they would have been made into actors, models, they would have been offered monetary film contracts, they would have been made into cool collector's figures in both Earth-and Lyoko shapes, like this, a TV series filmed in their universe and a really good movie too, billions of children and young people would have wanted their autographs and in particular, Odd would have had billions of girls around him who would have admired his great heroism and handsomeness (and maybe found him funny, cute and attractive in a funny way, because he's like a cat in Lyoko form) and then Odd could have chosen from among them himself "the right one." Jeremy, on the other hand, would probably have received the Nobel Prize when he was the first in the world to invent Teleportation, on the basis of which Teleport devices could have been developed for traveling, fast and effortless transport of goods, and maybe after High School and College, he would certainly have gotten a dream job at one of the finest Technology and Science firms in France due to his recommendations and fame or something else like that. So they wasted the opportunity of their life - they would have told the whole world about what they did, then they would certainly have been thanked and praised and with that they would have received a reward, a reward for their work for the whole world and reaped the reward. Second, there is way too little romance in this series !!!! Jeremy is in love with Aelita and Aelita is also in love with Jeremy but they don't date each other at all, Jeremy just spends all his time only on the computer and ANNOYINGLY ONLY TAPPING ON THE KEYBOARD AND WITHOUT A MOUSE ALL THE TIME (even though coders of course use the computer without a mouse but for Jeremy it's so annoying when he spends all his time on the computer, almost completely ignoring Aelita) JEREMY BELBOIS IS JEREMY BELBOIS JUST WHAT A JERK AND IDIOT? CHOOSES A COMPUTER RATHER THAN THE BEAUTIFUL GIRL HE'S IN LOVE WITH (even though he's only 12-13 years old, doesn't his love for Aelita make him still interested in daily romantic encounters with her, and at the end of Xana's kiss episode when Aelita kissed him, that Jeremy's ankle doesn't even answered the kiss even if he liked me and they should have kissed longer and enjoying it) I think that episode is annoying because there aren't those "just-on-the-lips-kiss-episodes" (maybe with the exception of the kiss between Oddi and Samantha, it just doesn't mean anything to me because Samantha is not a pretty girl, at least in my opinion) in this series more, and the main characters' love with kisses is the most important to me, in such series. So that Jeremy Belpois didn't respond to Aelita's kiss, because if Jeremy once loves Aelita, then he could have responded to the kiss and not stay in his place almost like he is a complete coward and a coward when it comes to the girl's love for him even though we know he's a genius with computers but not with girls, even though he should study and properly even though he's really still a 12-13-year-old teenage kid for whom, despite his crush, daily romantic dating with a girl isn't interesting yet and doesn't mean anything!! In addition to that, for example, in the Indonesian dub of Xana's kiss sequence, and possibly even in the dubs of some other countries, all kissing scenes were cut out due to sexual references; therefore, all that censoring left the whole plot of that episode unclear. Those damn countries with ankles who cut out the kissing scenes just because it is considered inappropriate in the eyes of the 6-10 year olds watching this series (for which age this series is intended)!!! So infuriating, downright unfair. After all, love matters are often difficult in this world too, but these guys are just a terrible mess and a complete mess! And Ulrich and Yumi are in love with each other and ALWAYS claim they are just "Good Friends." Well, if they're just good friends, then WHY is Ulrich constantly dating another girl, hugging and kissing every day, so not Sissy, but even with Emily, like he almost did in the episode "Routine"? And if Yumi once only wanted to be Ulrich's friend, then why doesn't she date William if once William is in love with her or someone else, Yumi then gets tired of William and she also ends up in Xana's control. And I've heard that at the end of the "Echoes" episode, Ulrich and Yumi were supposed to kiss each other, that is, in Earth, in the scene where Yumi promised that the good times would continue without Lyoko, but then even the kissing scene was either cut out of the script or it was finished once and for all and then it was cut out, you guessed it -for the reason I just mentioned. So unfair to Ulrich and Yumi!!! ALWAYS GOING LIKE THIS AND HEART FREAKING AND RELATIONSHIP MIXUP THE ENTIRE SERIES!!! THEY DON'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT THEIR ADVENTURES, AELITA COMPLAINS ABOUT JEREMY'S RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS COMPUTER, YUMI AND ULRICH SNAP EACH OTHER AND AS LOVERS SAY "WE'RE JUST GOOD FRIENDS, NOTHING ELSE" ETC. REALLY ANGRY ANGRY AND REALLY FURIOUS WHETHER IT WAS JUST DRAWN BY CHILDREN OR NOT !!! And Code Lyoko Evolution is even more horrible when it comes to these love issues, I haven't had time to get to know it very well yet, but that series certainly doesn't have episodes that promise real love, at least between Jeremy, Aelita and Ulrich, Yumi. And the only way to fix things would be to create a complete sequel to this series, in the original 2D cartoon-animation style, and make it a drama-romance-comedy series, based on the time after Evolution, and now focusing only and only on the relationships between the characters towards each other, making it like an adult Code Lyoko animated series (just something like 10-26 episodes would be enough), trying to also find all the former voice actors of the series back for this project, making the last episodes of the series such that the main characters get married, get pregnant and have children for each other, etc. But we will have to wait for that day for a long time, if not forever! But at the end of the day, I have finally begun to understand, and in addition to understanding, also completely willingly accept that why things are the way they are, that is, the way I said they are, at least from my point of view, that I have finally, after all these years, made those children towards the teenagers and their universe, made peace with my hatred towards them, my inner beast, my inner enemy, but still it's all still a bit questionable, somehow… What do you think of this review, please tell me thoroughly!

Okay so here’s the deal. Basically Shino is this guy who’s been sent into the world of Lyoko (the show) after being transported through his computer screen. Using his knowledge and personal tastes, he’s able to recruit sissy and Jim into the team. William will be saved too. As the story goes on it’ll be better explained!

Sorry forgot I can write it all at once. I will also be watching the show episode by episode to be exactly as the story goes without creating too much confusion. No ships will be done as canon ships will occur and tbh I would ship my character with sissy. Sissy has always been an interesting character to try and develop and change!
