Why Counter Strike Lootboxes might be illegal soon!

A Austrian CS Player sued Valve for letting him spend 14.000€ on Lootboxes, which he won and got his money back. How will Valve respond? Will Austria be the next country without CSGO Case openings or will they also get the X-Ray Scanner? Or will Steam finally adress to lootbox problem in a different way?

CS2 is PEGI 18 age restricted. If u spend all your money on the case opening it's your problem not valves.

@@rumbata696 no it's not about loopholes, it's rigged as the Austrian courts favor the gamers above publishers, there are many lawsuits against publishers like these. In this case, I would not be surprised that Valve calls it a day in Austria, pays the whiner 15K, and blocks everybody else from opening cases in Austria, forcing the gamer to use a VPN, and from there, it's not possible to build a lawsuit against Valve anymore, as you are breaking the law by circumventing the blockade.

I agree with you, however a company abusing a gambling addiction isn't something I'd call ethical. Therefore I'd say it's justified.

They could make it like some other games (for example WoT): When you open a case, you get a thing that is „the main” selling point of it + a skin that is a bonus. So technically you pay for that „main thing” and the skin is dropped as a bonus.

That thing could be some points (always the same amount), that you can use in the ingame store. For example with that points you could buy some new shit, like watches, shoes for agent, etc. Tbh it would even boost their sales and go around those laws, because you are paying for these points, not a bonus case.

So ... if valvo is nolonger allowed to sell keys .... how about just functioning as a marketplace for what is unboxed while dropping cases for "free" like nowerdays or they could just say: hey now we have season, you have to buy seasonpass to get casedrops and wont need keys to open the cases

How to get around this. Make cases non tradeable on market, so people only get them from drops and remove the key. - Valve will still make money when a skin is sold on the market.

The items inside the cases can still be sold wich steam get a % off. But people cant buy the cases, so it can't be considered gambling anymore, if the case was provided for free@@edlaoyeah

From the law view of things, Valve is neglecting its own ToS, as it clearly states that trading and or selling items outside of the Steam market is prohibited, but if they don't follow up on this with cease&desist for using their skins and game content on 3rd party markets, then they are the neglecting party. FYI this game is 18+ in all countries except Australia and New Zealand. But you and I know that no seller(digital) or store is going to ask for your ID when selling you a game.

Imagine going to the casino to win money, losing everything and then suing casino because it exists and receive the money back. Repeat multiple times and you are a millionaire. Only austrians are able to bring their stupidity to the court and somehow win.

In france cases cant be opened like the normal way but you can still get skins from cases through xraying, exactly same process/outcome as opening cases but just a valve loophole
