This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED conferences.
Cancer research relies heavily on testing drugs in mice, yet it’s clear that for effective treatment, we need to be testing in humans. In an informative talk, oncologist Azra Raza walks us through the challenges of personalized cancer research and offers a potential solution, based on decades of sample collection.

I met her today for medicine class at Barnard College and she was the most inspiring woman I have ever met and her backstory has really affected how I look at leukemia cancer ( what she majors in) and how it had taken the life of her husband and almost her daughter. God Bless her soul.

what a fantastic talk! We ALL need to work together to find a cure for cancer. Very good for anyone who doesn't know much, and I can't believe the statistic about how much is spent on shoes :( - please take a minute to watch this people and fight to be forward thinking with research.

My mother had barely been eating any food for the past 15 years and we always told her that she was going to come down w something serious. Also, she's a major worry wart and took on everyone's problems. She was diagnosed w MDS recently. Is it related? Maybe. She began "overdosing" on organic vegetables, fruits and supplements and went from bed ridden to bountiful energy in a matter of a week and outwardly symptoms of illness are fading. Is it related? Maybe.

What I gathered from this talk is that putting more money into research wouldn’t do much. As for living and dying well is the way to go. At the end is all that matter.😘

One month ago today my mother passed away from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. It was six weeks from diagnosed, to her passing. This disease is rapidly advancing, and brutal. What my mother went through, I would not wish upon anyone. Her dr. miss diagnosed her , did not send her for blood work right away and prescribed her muscle relaxants and told her to come back in a week and see him then. My mother's symptoms were fatigue, and sore muscles and joints, which are symptoms for just about everything. The Dr. her is unfortunately correct in saying they have made no advancement in treatment for this disease. My mother received chemo for seven straight days, twenty-four hours a day. The chemo treatment alone kills some of these patients. If you feel any of the symptoms of fatigue, soreness and general unwellness, please see a dr. Demand that blood work be done, and do not take no for an answer.

My dog has mass cell tumours, in fact 13 to start with. Vet gave him chemo steroids he was so ill. I took him off them and the vet said he would deteriorate quickly if I did. My friend who uses homeopathy offered to help bearing in mind she has only treated humans. That was 5 years ago, he has been terminal for at least 6 years. Not cured but in remission. The tumours come up, they re treated and stabilised. On my sons life this is true, no drugs. Just herbs and vitamins with a pure organic diet and love.

The biggest problem people lose live with cancer is not necessarily the treatment but the detection & diagnosis of cancer. In most cases it's detected so late to be cured in a timely manner. It's a shame that we still use 50 year old ancient technology CT scan for diagnosis. In reality this 50 year old technology should be in museums. Healthcare system manufacturers don't invest in new technology because no one else is doing it, so no competition. Like how no existing auto manufacturer invested in electrical vehicles because there was no competition but Elon Musk with zero auto & EV experience changed all that forcing all to adopt. We need to do the same to come up with better robust technology to detect cancer in the very beginning

Would having Watson analyze her collection of cancer cells be of any use? I just see Watson has a huge leap towards finding treatments and relevant information around this disease. If we can distract IBM from using it for more superficial purposes and scale it like it was WW II.

It shames me to see just few thousand hits on a video that tries to explain to people around the world, how to save your own lives along with them if you can! of those that you love and ones that are there need help! if you do not want yours help others, if you do not want to help others, you are as good as cancer, just useless and thriving on other's to grow! I wish we could get together to fight cancer and all those horrible diseases that still exist in the world! Indeed something is wrong with us we do not to see the truth and just want to click on the "awesome" "cool" or any timewasting video as that is what we have been doing.. it shames me i am not different from others, but hope that i and others would change for better? just wrote all this whilst had tears in my eyes...

Steven Pavia hey 19 y/o AML patient. While some cancers can be explained by environmental factors, some will always happen because of random mutations. While environmental factors are a very important subject to research to reduce the total amount of cancers and other diseases, the treatment and subsequent cure of cancers must be something we always focus on or else we will always let some people down.

studying DIET, PESTICIDE and HERBICIDE will do much...the best they can do is distribute pesticide and herbicide by technological means rather than coming in contact with such carcinogenic product.

Lone Wolf It's a trick to lower the uploader's audience average retention. They paste a link to the end of the video so the video ends when people click it . He's just a troll with no life.

OriginellerName1234 Looks to me like it's internet jargon, I was wrong either way. Sorry about that. However, the audience retention trick I talked about does exist. Pasting a link to the end of the video will hurt the uploader's audience retention, and some people do this to troll people.
