I would like to highlight Dana's music piece, the "Iclucian Dance", which encompasses perfectly her struggle and fight against all odds and Fate itself. The dance she is boldly and dare devilishly performing without a hint of hesitation and doubt. You hear the despair of Eternia, you hear the overwhelming odds stacked against Dana... Yet she is still going, still helping others, no backing up. Thats the character she is. The Unbreakable Dana Iclucia.

The game gets sadder when you learn the meaning of "Lacrimosa"

I just finished Ys 8, it is my first ys game ever and it was an amazing experience and Dana was a big part of that. One if the best characters i have seen in many years. And now i have purchased al the Ys games i could find on Steam, i could not help myself. I just need to know the entire story hahaha.

Finished Ys 8 just a couple hours ago. Dana just became my favorite Falcom character ever and watching this video after bearing witness to her wonderful journey just increased my love for her.

Dana is the reason why I enjoyed Ys VIII more than I thought I would. The true ending made me tear up because of the fact that we'll never see her again. This is just like Princess Yue (Avatar) and Allura (Netflix Voltron). Strong benevolent women who sacrifice themselves for the greater good. 😢 Also, kudos to her English VA Brianna Knickerbocker. She brings so much emotion to the character.

excellent analysis. i really love how dana was portrayed in this game and her struggles, it really resonates with me. and really inspire me to be better, to never give up. its something that i have to remember once in a while. she is sure a character i will never forget. dana forever.

My goodness. Just finished the game, got the true end, and I am positively in love. It's a shame we'll probably never get more games with her. Hell, I'll even take a Ys vs Kiseki type of deal just to see her again.

A fun detail I always thought was interesting was how she is the shortest member of the eternians but when she joins your party of humans she is the tallest character. I feel this represents a couple things. She is bridging the gap between the two races, she fits in with both but in different ways. As an eternian she is considered young and wreckless but as an ally to the humans she is considered wise and carrying out a gambit thousands of years in the making. She adapts herself to any challenge, as refenced by her color/elemental forms, too.

Great analysis on why Dana is so great! 👍 Easily the best character in Ys 8. The things she has to suffer and how she never gives up, it's truly inspirational stuff.

I really want Dana and adol to be together in the end. Even when falcom says he loves feena, the fact still stands that adol hasn't been able to forget about her even in Ys 9 and she's even there to help her out for some big things from what I know and coincidently enough, another old blue haired goddess. If adol was to really marry only feena, they wouldn't keep on introducing all these girls in every game that love him too. If there's a gun in the shelf in ep 3, it should be shot by 5. If not, it has no reason to be there. Just like that, if all these girls are getting introduced, he has to pick 1 of them instead of just tunnel visioning for feena. That's backed up by how the devs say that he marries one of the girls in his travels and deliberately leave out their name to keep the fans invested in the romance of the game by speculating and theorizing. They went too far with the very specific choice words dana had towards him, specifically singling him out outta the bunch to talk to him, genuinely crying and hugging for the whole scene to just be platonic. You could say she did that outta pure compassion with how much he helped her but when a woman suffers for 65 million yrs and then a man comes into his life as knight in shining armor while potentially being the solution to all her problems, it's not surprising for her compassion to easily turn into love, considering how the whole scene went with all the blatant hints there with even the goddess Maia calling them both being tied by a red string of fate in one of the eng subs (that's referred to eternal lovers in Asian cultures) lots of hints there. All in all, while it is important that the dev's word of mouth does matter, the hints they give out is equally important too. Game devs are artists too and as artists, they deliberately leave out a lot of stuff for the fans to figure out. It starts conversations and keeps the community active like I said above and this won't be the last time time they did something like this. Nothing is set in stone and as such, adol marrying dana is equally as possible as him marrying feena My girl has suffered enough. She needs some love in her life. She needs to know that there's somebody who will cherish her and look at her as more than just a friend

start to play the game again a few weeks ago, know the franchise since childhood but when i met this game, i have to say, my heart beats fast in the last chapter, when they found her, and adol look in her eyes, was one of the best things ever, this game is a masterpiece and dana is such a strong girl, her world literally fall apart and she still going after the answers she seek, fighting and going foward, love her so much

Thank you for your video, Dana is one of my favorite female game characters of all times. YS music also helps all her brightest moments. I love this game. When I found out what was going on with the asure petals and Danas appearence implications I just collected them all, reading her messages sent shivers down my spine and tears to my eyes.

Okay this was one of the best videos I have ever watched. You bring such a different perspective to who Dana is as a character. After your wonderful analysis, it caused me to compare and contrast Dana and Velvet crowe from tales of berseria. They are almost exact opposites of each other(with some minor simularities like boldness etc) but they both share a common goal of never giving up in the face of adversity. They use vastly contrasting methods in order to push on despite tremendous hardships. The bigger message I'm taking away is we should utilize our strengths in order to overcome hardships, BUT persistence can take on many different forms. Velvet, although a worse person than Dana, still perseveres and finds strength within her sadness and anger. Dana pushes on with resolve and kindess. It's beautiful to make that comparison between almost complete opposites and I wanted to thank you for allowing this thought to cross my mind. Liked and subscribed, I look forward to watching many more of your old and new videos.

Great video analysis, Ys 8 was my first JRPG and first Ys game, and I have to say it was truly an amazing ride. Dana especially was a key reason why I enjoyed it so much. The new format is looking good sectioned and easy to follow.

Great analysis. You made some interesting points about Dana's character arc and evolution that I hadn't previously considered and you have a very refreshing perspective on Ys VIII different from mine. Ys VIII is still my favorite standalone game to this day ... as the narrative is so strong. Dana's conviction and foresight were both amazing. I have never played any other game that taught me so deeply or poignantly about loss and joy. A game about the fact that things end, but that you should treasure them regardless both during and after. Just Kino.

Dana is basically the love child of Breath of the Wild's Link and Zelda, despite coming out around a year before BotW. She even got her own version of the Monk Maz Koshia fight in the content added to all the post-Vita versions of the game (which also came out before the BotW DLC that only Maz Koshia).

She's a dinosaur lady, what's not to like. Extremely strong too, who else could easily use those giant twin crescent blades. In the end, she becomes the goddess of evolution and saves the world from extinction, essentially becomes one of, if not the most powerful character in the Ys universe, putting even Feena and Reah beneath her

Ys VIII is the first Ys game I ever played and what a way to get into the series it is. The game does a great job building up it's mystery through the first half. Just exploring the island, finding new people and searching for a way off the island is easygoing and fun. But the sense of something bigger going on always lingers and builds, especially through the flashbacks that are Dana's past. And once that twist hit I was sucked in completely and couldn't stop myself playing until I finished everything.

Wonderful series. Glad Ys is a part of it.

Adol Christin, who pinballs around the spacetime continuum and becomes the local Chosen Hero Of Destiny approximately twice a year, is an outlier and should not have been counted.

There's one thing about Dana you forgot to mention: she's so friggin' sexy! I mean, come on! A scantily-clad girl who fights and kills giant monsters? Hell yeah!

I just finished Ys VIII, and it's been more than a year since your video so this comment will probably be lost, but I find her fate absolutely cruel. Especially for a free spirit such as herself, and after having fought to save not one, but two species from the Lacrimosa, she is now forced to conduct the next Lacrimosas for basically eternity, she cannot interact with the people she saved in a meaningful manner and she is bind to her duty as the new Goddess of Evolution. She's lost everything, and that true ending is just another bad end, the only silver lining being her reunion with Sarai. Don't get me wrong, I loved Ys VIII, but Dana deserved so much more, she didn't deserve to lose the freedom she could only start to grasp after so many years of fighting for others. And becoming a god, especially being forced to become a god, is always one of the worst thing that can happen in my opinion (yes, even death is better than godhood, but that is only my opinion, and I can understand you not sharing it). She deserved to travel the world and meet the people she saved and to do it while being true to herself, and, most importantly, finally free (and that's going to be my head cannon, until she can actually be free from her duties and wander the world and help people like she always should have, much like Adol). And that is why I can't come to terms with this true ending. Also, she has to be with Nestor for the rest of eternity, and that is already cruel enough.

I keep getting people recommending batwoman or Captain marvel as great female characters....pffftt! I'll take Dana any day of the week.

I just wish the ending didn't suck so bad. It just felt like lazy writing to invalidate almost everything you've done to try and fit it before Ys 6 and Ys 7.
