Liverpool's dramatic 1-1 draw with Luton grabbed a number of headlines, but the prevailing one centers around a string of missed chances for Darwin Nunez. However, despite the striker's wastefulness in their most recent game, the numbers show he's enjoying an astonishing improvement in front of goal this season.

What has he improved if he’s missing sitters, the very basics of football? We let it slide most times because we end up winning but against Luton his brain-freeze nearly cost us 3 points. So no, he’s not improving. He did the same against Toulouse, rounding the keeper and instead of thinking like every average player, his brain-freezed again hitting the post. I don’t care if he scores world class goals and we win 5-1 but if he miss a sitter from 3 yards and it cost us points then he’s nowhere as better as Origi.

Remember, last season when Liverpool beat Manchester city 3-0 in the Community shield it was Nunez who looked more dangerous than Haaland. Liverpool started putting Nunez on the bench despite his glimpses of superb form. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola consistently continued giving Haaland 90 minutes in every game until he gained more confidence and settled into the team finally and became the Premier league top scorer. Let Liverpool coaches be consistent on him. Period.

People forget Suarez didn't hit the ground running in the league. He got better every season. I'm not comparing them directly in terms of player ability/style. Nunez didn't do well at the start with Benfica then found a way to score many goals. This lad base is very good and he can build on it. Klopp is key too. Yes I do feel gutted when he misses but at the same time I get that feeling of GO ON LAD! When he gets on the ball coz I seen what he did at Benfica. I remember at one point at the start with Suarez people saying he is type to miss chances but he keeps getting them and making them a game that he will score just by the amount. As time went on that work ethic met his potential and he was just scoring things out of this world. Hopefully Nunez will find his way and I have faith. Not really worried about the banter social media weirdos as long as he keeps showing effort and improving. I think people are too busy looking at our attack when we need to be looking at being more solid. I also personally feel we need someone really really creative in the middle for the defensive teams. I'm talking top tier creator.

I have never wanted us to sign an opponent as much as Nunez. When I saw him play against us, I was just blown away by him. I tend to get a bit tunnel-visioned in matches that involve Liverpool because I want us to win so badly that my appreciation for opponents can be nullified but Nunez was something special. My feelings about him since haven't really changed, even if my understanding of him and more importantly, how he might fit into this team has. I think we'll have to come to accept that Nunez will miss a lot but mhe creates more dangerous chances than any other striker in the PL. I dont want to paint myself into an XG corner here but Nunez will create and maintain chances that other strikers won't have the physical ability to do so. His speed and power are off the charts. His technical abilities are not bad either but sometimes his shape is off because he's too eager. The thing is though, he'll miss but he'll also score LOADS of goals. The best thing that we can do is to accept it and be extra supportive of him. We'll benefit that way.

I actually think if Darwin had turned out to be a Haaland type character, it would have meant that Liverpool would have naturally ended up pretty one dimensional. At present, at least we can enjoy the roller coaster ride of emotions when Darwin in one match blasts in the winner from just inside the box but then in another match hits the woodwork three times.

It is not Nunez himself who has contributed to his struggles. It is lack of game time since he came which has caused his dwindling fortunes. Let the coaches make the best use of him. He will become confident and precise at goal. Just look at how he saved Liverpool in his first game against Fulham at Craven Cottage. After that game, I was surprised to see him start from the bench. Even Salah sometimes has been too awful in some games but does not receive similar criticism. Please, be objective. You are not building the players this way.
@Biomirth
@Biomirth 7 ай бұрын
This has been a problem for Liverpool for a number of years, and not for no reason. They tend to have an overload of good players in some positions and a dearth in others. Some players can come off the bench and play their best (Origi is the classic example) while others really need 95% of starts to get going. Considering how raw Nunez was compared with what Liverpool needed him to do, I side with the coaches in bringing him in slowly. Now though, they must play him 95% of the time to get his best. I think Klopp is aware of these tradeoffs but his systems have required an imbalance of personnel and while it seems wasteful (compared with only signing 2 of each position and rotating perfectly) there is a method to this madness. A method that doesn't always work, but when it does is absolutely electric.

Nunez is making me think of timo for chelsea. Obviously he was dangerous because of his burst of speed and always somehow being in open space just like Nunez but couldn’t be clinical enough just like how Nunez is atm.
@RikSolstice
@RikSolstice 7 ай бұрын
I get the comparison but I don't think it holds up eventually. Werner never got past that awkward first stage and remained pretty one-dimensional. Nunez has already in a season become a better presser, passer and finisher. Nunez scored 4 and assisted 3 in 5 PL games this season already. He won't get every single playing minute but if you extrapolate that over 38x90 it's about 26 goals and 17 assists or something. Statistically that's pretty damn good.

Forgot to add that if he stays on an upward trajectory he'll start missing less sitters eventually.

You use the U21s and youth teams to develop players, not the first team. When you pay £85m, you expect the finished article, not someone who might come good in a few years. You have to compare him to the person he replaced, who was Sadio Mane, and frankly Nunez pales in comparison.

First stop that talk about hes "close of that or this" he can improve he's finish whatever he wants, that's not his problem. His problem is his mind, he needs to focus or stop thinking to much we need the tap in not that banger. Sobozlai, Salah, diaz can do that... look at Jackson today horrible, but sure on tap in and secure a hattrick... The guy need psychologist...

Tbh every single Jackson goal this evening was a tap in against 9 men. However I agree it’s more mental within Darwin, he scored 26 in 28 for benfica and scored two great goals against us in cl at anfield. The guy can finish, just needs to get out of his head so much

@@curtisjackson2478 bro every Jackson goal was tap in but all them more difficult them the ones darwin miss... he's literally under the goal, professional goal size is huge, even If I want to miss that one would be very hard... anyways we move on, but klopp needs to speak very sincerely with nunez... we could have been 2nd rnw and if the VAR didn't robbed us against spurs = 1st...

@@victolaaaa and Jackson wouldn’t score the ones against Newcastle, Bournemouth, West Ham? The whole team played like shit, just had enough of “fans” slating a player and trying to blame him and only him. The whole front line was terrible, don’t forget salahs header seconds before. However I do agree i would like him to get some extra coaching, because he clearly can finish if you look back on his career record. We could be 1st or second, but if he diddnt save us against Newcastle by himself, it could have been even worse 👍

@@infiniteawaken1our system doesn’t need a false 9 now though. He’s been ineffective this season when starting there because our 8s can actually run and pass a ball, unlike last season. I want to see gakpo on the left for just one game, see what happens

@@curtisjackson2478 Thank God you said it that surprisingly most others don't see or get. Gakpo is a left winger mostly played throughout his time at PSV. Occasionally plays ST for Netherlands. Like you say why not play Gakpo on Left (sometimes ahead of Diaz) Nunez Centre and Salah on Right to see how effective that combination would be. Why is this difficult? SMFH

Darwin Nunez cannot concentrate long enough to finish his dinner (what he’s started). He honestly doesn’t look to be the brightest spark on the pack! Everything is still done at 200 mph. To be an assassin you have to have a cold heart composure “iceman”. Hence the saying, “Cometh the man, Cometh the hour”. These issues can be sorted bar his lack of intelligence eg footballing IQ.
