"This is the greatest gift you can give yourself"
Davina McCall is a presenter, mum, women’s health advocate and, now, a ZOE ambassador.
She takes us through her health journey; from her hedonistic 20s to her 30s defined by 'brutal' fad diets and just trying to get some sleep as a busy working mum in her 40s and finally at 55, Davina shares why she feels even better than she did at 25.
Watch Davina discover the power of personalised nutrition, get to know her gut, and chat with ZOE scientific co-founder Professor Tim Spector as he reveals the best foods to support her goal of going clubbing with her grandkids.
To find out more about and start your ZOE journey today, visit zoe.com/davina

Exactly. I'm 40 years old and live in the center of beautiful Heidelberg Germany. I inhabit a flat with 2 students, to save money. I can walk to work (ICU nurse), but I have an old used bike for less then 200 bucks. I don't need to travel. Heidelberg is paradise. No car, no kids. I only work part time so I have enough money for my hobbies: Bouldering, Running, Gaming on Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Switch (when our house burns down, I can't lose those games, I own them in the cloud). Life is beautiful nowadays, why would I waste it at work. I only buy cloths when I really need them, mostly cheap. You can eat healthy for 5 bucks a day (coffee included). I consider whole grain pasta to be healthy, but you should have them split up in to maximum 2 meals a day, and with a good amount of healthy plant seed oils (I prefer olive). Other than that I eat nuts and vegetables. Only drink water, coffee, and tea without milk or sugar. If you're vegan have your vit.B12 and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids (like algae oil), maybe vit.D if you're a nightshift worker or not out in the sun much, and you're good. I'm 40 years old, athletic, everyone thinks I'm much younger. Take good care of your bodies folks and enjoy life 💟

Adore Davina, such a warm, friendly person. She’s an incredible role model for taking care of yourself and how it impacts your mindset, therefore leading to a zest for life, energy, happiness, can do attitude. She’s such a magnet for positivity and I only hope I can reflect half of what she’s got at her age when I’m older. Well done Davina, you’re inspiring and look bloody fantastic!

I have been on the Zoe program for 8 months now and feel so much better than I have ever felt. I am 64 so this is something of an achievement. I have just completed a gut health re-test and am hoping the changes I have made (which are considerable) will result in a better gut health score. My blood fat and sugar control were already good. I enjoy my revised diet and how it makes me feel!

You’re a great ambassador Davina! I’ve been doing Zoe since February and can’t speak highly enough about it and how much better I feel. I didn’t think I was doing too badly before, but now I’m eating for my own biology I’m absolutely loving it. What is even better - I’ve discovered a whole load of new foods that I wouldn’t have considered before or maybe thought were too fattening! I don’t feel I’m depriving myself in any way at all - quite the opposite in fact. I love my new life eating plan and know that I’ll never go back. It is a bit pricey but for me absolutely worth the investment in myself to live as a healthy and happy person to the very end hopefully ❤

Is this way of eating your point of reference for life @pipskilou4128? What I mean by that is, say for example you start a new medication or you go through a very stressful period of life. Both of those will change your gut microbiome. Does that mean your response to the foods you once knew were good for you may change as your body will react differently?

I have been following the Zoe approach since March and heard about it via the Zoe Health app where i reported daily. I signed up as soon as I heard about it. Knowing what foods suit you is the key and I have changed some habits as a result, although my diet was good before it has definitely improved further. Whilst I can see the benefits of a celebrity endorsement, I would certainly cheer more loudly if the celebrity was morbidly obese and had changed their lifestyle and reaped the benefits of a much more healthier approach to their diet.

I was interested too and think I managed to track it down by pausing and studying the video. I'm pretty sure the kombucha is by Jarr and the water kefir is by London Fermentary. Today, I discovered that the kombucha in the video is by Momo (not Jarr). I found it in our amazing local health food shop (Apothecary 27 in Haslemere, Surrey) and I bought the raspberry & hibiscus (very nice) and the lemon & ginger (not tried yet) flavours - they also stocked the elderflower flavour shown here but I didn't buy it. The shop also stocked the London Fermentary vegan kimchi (I bought & tried with cream cheese - very nice) and various krauts (I bought the carrot kraut on the shop owner's recommendation - really really nice on it's own).

You might want to look at the ingredients in the yoghurt - artificial sweetners, binding agents etc. If you can't find it in your kitchen, try to avoid putting it in your stomach. I was Vegan until I started watching the ZOE podcasts. Weighing up the choices, I decided to cut the Vegan dairy replacements and go back to eggs and cheese sourced from organic local suppliers.

What a world we live in. Some people are able to indulge themselves with eating an individualised diet, with all the choices that brings and there’s nothing wrong with that. Isn’t science wonderful! Then we have children living in destitute families, not getting enough food of any kind to allow them to thrive, play, learn at school. That is totally unacceptable!

Nothing is so simple or works so well as the Atkins Diet. I must have bought at least 40 copies of the book and given them as gifts. What I found is that people that say "it doesn't work or it's too hard to follow" either didn't read the book cover to cover or for some reason can't seem to follow a very simple program. Yes, the first two weeks are a bit tough and if a person can't give two weeks in order to make their health better for life, well, sorry for you. Read the book cover to cover, follow it and you will be able to control your weight and health for life. Here is what it comes down to... First two weeks pretty much no carbs. You will lose a lot of water weight during this time. Your cravings for sweets will fade after a few days however you need to have discipline and not cheat. You weigh yourself everyday as close to naked as possible in the interest of accuracy. Log your weight every day. Then, after two weeks you start to add back the carbs and log your weight every day. You will find a point where you don't gain weight and a point where you start to gain weight. Knowing that point and learning what foods and drinks have how many carbs, you will know how many carbs you can have and not gain weight. Easy. And of course some carbs are better or worse than others (table sugar bad, sugar from fruit or vegetables not as bad). For me, a male, my no gain weight carbs was about 60 per day. It varies person to person and male to female. That's why you log your weight and track your carbs until you know where you stand.
