In other words he has no clue as to why faxon went with the 1/8 twist instead of the 1/7 twist.

my favorite twist rate...i can shoot 55 grain match loads at about 1 inch at 100 yds in my testing, and everything up to 77 grains under an inch, i'm a happy guy. i even fire a good amount of 22LR now with this ammo shortage using the CMMG Bravo conversion kit, and i've never done an accuracy test with it at 100 yards but at shorter ranges i will call it pretty decent accuracy, certainly way better than i expected using 40 grain 22LR bullets that aren't meant for 1-8 twist

That is why all my AR target barrels are 1/8, in fact all my barrels regardless of application should be 1/8.
@calebdoner
@calebdoner 3 жыл бұрын
You could have rehearsed your answer, done it in one take, removed the cuts, and eliminated the Umms. All we needed to know is that 1:8 will stabilize anything that can fit into an AR15 magazine, so why bother with the potential downsides of a 1:7 barrel with potentially poor quality bullets.

I have a DSG upper with a 1/8 twist and it’s great with heavy bullets (68 to 77 grns). however I have consistently been disappointed with 55 grn at 100 and 200 yards. 1/8 might as well be 1/7. I prefer 1/9 due to all my 1/9 barrels show very accurate results at 100 and 200 yds, and it has done very good groups with the heavier type projectiles also.
@FixedWing82
@FixedWing82 Жыл бұрын
Yep, same here. My old ass bushy 1/9 barrel is an absolute tack driver with everything except 77s, which I never shoot anyway since I can never find it on the shelves and its far too expensive when it is. I shoot almost nothing but 55 or 62gr and 1/9 is definitely the ticket for that. So what does everyone under the sun sell? 1/7. Derp.

I'm all for a 1:8 twist barrel. My only concern is, will the rounds that your using in your particular gun still be able to have the same terminal performance they would have in a 1:7 twist barrel?
@cfnaround1585
@cfnaround1585 3 жыл бұрын
Terminal performance will likely be unaffected since that’s mostly based on pressures and velocity. The only way you will lose it is if a heavier weight bullet doesn’t have enough spin to stabilize… which isn’t likely in a 1:8. At least within reasonable distances. Every bullet begins to tumble at some point
@jhalscott
@jhalscott 3 жыл бұрын
I have never found an AR round that couldn't be stabilized in a 1:8 twist. I find mostly 1:7 lately, but always had great luck with 1:9 too.

One in seven twist rate works just fine it was also intended to stabilize Tracer rounds better it does the job apples and oranges I've had excellent results with 55 grain all the way up to 77 grain with my one and seven twist rate really getting finicky here one in eight twist rate also does fine with those bullet weights

What grain bullet do you recommend in a 1:8 twist 16" barrel?
@D70340

Most 55 thru 70gr bullets work ok in the 1-8 twist, in the AR platform. At least i`ve had no issues using 55 to 70gr.

I got a faxon, gunner profile, "match grade" barrel a few months ago. 223 Wylde, 1:8, 16 inch. It SUCKS. I have an $80 barrel from Bear Creek Arsenal that's way better. And I have a TRUE match grade barrel from Wilson Arms. The faxon flat-out SUCKS

That’s the barrel game my friend a good barrel maker will make 100 barrels and 90 of them will shoot 10 won’t a shitty barrel maker will make 100 barrels 90 of which won’t shoot 10 of which will. Obviously these numbers are not representative of the reality just using them to draw a picture. Faxon builds a decent barrel for the money I think you can do just as well spending less but don’t let one bad barrel make up your mind forever my 2 cents.
