Just watched the blog w/ " NITO " ! I can say that I was " chiming in " with all the guys that were here in the shop as I was watching this... it was hilarious! I absolutely loved plugging in ! Here in Oklahoma ( way N.E. ) I have a 3K +/_ acre ranch across the old Highway from me and 30 - 40 nights a year we set up for " WILEY WHACKING ", taking a few to 42 in one night! The 8.6 is the largest we shoot for trash removal... the nearest shot from the roof of my 28' tall barn roof was on the diagonal @ 21'... it was explosive... the furthest before the Highway berm is as ranged at the property line 484.2 yards... from a facial through his mouth while howling... straight through his " wrecked em' , it killed him " ! [ with a .350gr. maker copy we spun/ edm'd ) I am up on the Tube at the Kansas/ Oklahoma line shop every day! KUDO'S to you two from Faxon, I have built a dozen 8.6 guns for friends with your bbls.. and they are great! We spin up our own with ECM gain twist rifling we do here ( we are a contractor )... and wrap and also have CNC filament winders for that special blend mix... they are unmatched for accuracy and wear, but do not sell to anyone but our CORP. partner till 01/01/2025, when we are not renewing our deal. Again thank you for an enjoyable blog view! Respectfully, Seth

If you know anybody with a Harbor freight mini lathe its pretty easy to redrill/ rethread a .308 brake. I think its where I am headed soon.

They will come. I got one a couple weeks ago. Check Midway also, they tend to get shipments from Faxon on both barrels and brakes for 8.6bo.

It needs to be in a lever action. Best application for this round guide gun.

I can promise you, as a business owner, if I could sell a huge amount of any product, I would turn over every stone to make as much of it available as possible. The lack of ammo available tells me that there wasn't much belief within the industry that 8.6 was going to be successful. I've been on waiting lists for months for both ammo and bullets, and I've yet to get any notifications that something was in stock.

You also have to realise their has been a powder and primer "shortage" for 2 yrs. Bullets (cartridges) were wiped off all shelves nationwide over 2 yrs ago and the ammo manufacturers have had to gear up to produce restock levels of what , 100 calibers and who knows how many weights. We are just now starting to see the levels coming back to normal. You still cant buy 6.5 Creed brass from most manufacturers. Is that because their is no faith in it? No there are tens of thousands of 6.5C rifles out in the wild. It just takes forever to get a country restocked that is selling more guns every year than before, for the last 5 yrs. I believe we are close to 20 million guns a year now being added every year! Not to mention the what 4-500 million out there already. Imagine trying to keep up supplying that many guns! Yikes. We finally have a 3rd USA primer manufacturer! We have only had 2 for many, many, years. Two! to supply the Military and consumer with the tiny primers every bullet needs. That is ridiculous. No wonder primers are still more than double what they were 4 yrs ago.

I had a barrel for over 6 months, and finally just started doing the research and reloading my own. Now I wouldn't buy "store bought" ammo if it was available.

Faxon Has Had Long Enough To Work Out Reliability Issues. As Army Ranger Sniper I Couldn’t Rely On Faxon Types Of Rifles. I Used The MK-21 & MK-22 In .300 Norma Pill. On Private Sector Side I Still Have These For 1776/ 1 Mile And More For Real Estate However I Shoot My 3 Q-Fix Bolt Action In 8.6 Blackout & Wilson Combat .300 Hammer Recon Tactical Far More Often Without Failures Except A Bad Primer Once In A Great While/ Extremely Rare Though. Q-Fix Bolt Action & The Round Will Be A Success BUT NOT FAXON Gas Operation.

Gorilla ammo will not work in my faxon 8.6 blackout. Ammo co blames the barrel, faxon blames the ammo. Going to try a new ammo if it comes available. Customer service was like it’s fixed it’s your problem now.

Nito, your problem is using non-Hornady brass. Most all of the work that Q did was based on Hornady 6.5cm brass cut and resized. My Hornady 6.5cm brass ends up as .013" on the wall thickness. Food for thought, if you want to use Qs load data you had better make sure you fit inside their chamber, but I know Q is using Hornady dies like I am, and I'm using 300gr SMKs for some initial subsonic testing. All your case neck turning is doing is weakening your Lapua brass to the thickness of Hornady. FWIW, I am keeping my Lapua 6.5cm to reload 6.5cm. 🙂

Nito, what you say at 32:00 is exactly why you can't use the Q load data. Although I have the same components, Q provides low and high data for the subsonic 300gr SMK in the sense that one is 10.2gr of 1680 and one is 17.2gr of 1680. That gives me a rule of thumb of what to expect. I plan to start at 14gr, using 1680 which is about middle of the pack. Very interesting to note that most all testing looks to be done with semi-auto, as only 2 loads exist for bolts, which are really using the same load for 2 different bullets, 11gr. The remarkable is that the blackout is reliable to go between sub and super when needed. Even a 12" barrel is highly effective at 500-600 yards. That's farther than I actually feel comfortable to take game at. PS - Faxon, thanks for putting those large feed ramps into the biggunner barrels. That was problematic on 300bo (m4) as well as LR-308 in general. That should ensure a higher rate of success given how many different LR-308 platforms were built.

Yet another interesting data point. I have a bunch of Lake City 308 Match brass, so I checked it and the wall thickness is about .013", similar to the Hornady brass. However, the shoulder is up higher so when I cut it off the length, it's more case with slightly less shoulder. I can't get it pressed down successfully though, close but no cigar, and that is after 6-7 tries to press it. Also, after I get it down most of the way the wall thickness is now .018". This enforces my earlier comments, that unless you are loading exactly the same components and same primers, in the same cut down cases, all bets off. So much matters, the dies being used, the brass, the bullets, the COAL, chamber, etc...With that said, I don't have an annealer, and that could make a big difference in resizing...but it's moot for me as I have 200 pieces of Hornady once fired 6.5cm brass, and that's what is said that Q used. In the best world Lapua will make 8.6 blackout brass that doesn't need to be resized, but getting to the best world is gonna take a bit of time...🙄

@Constitutionalist no problem here = just necessity. Good luck with your Hornady brass when loaded to supersonic velocities. Those primer pockets will open up in 2 firings at nearly maximum pressures. I am not using Q data. I am using my own load data derived from Quickloads. NO., neck turning is NOT weakening my brass necks. You need to do your homework on the actual results of neck turning. Precision benchrest shooters [myself included] have been turning brass necks to get uniform neck wall thickness for years!! Please, stop spreading bad information. Neck turning does NOT weaken brass. Neck turning allows the too thick 0.018" brass wall thickness to be within specification.

@@constitutionalist4391 I sincerely DO NOT follow what you mean by NOT using Quickloads. Do you even know what your water case capacity of the brass you are using and how this is relevant to your pressure levels you are achieving???

@@constitutionalist4391 if you are smart and resourceful, I would stay away from Hornady brass and go with tried and true brass like Lapua, and Peterson in small rifle primer configurations. By your own admission you now state that the wall thickness is .018" thick...so learn from what I have done already and stop speculating.

Just found out today from an IT guy that Faxon has sold customer information to various marketing vendors. I hope they stop and re-focus on making quality products instead of engineering new ways to make a buck off their customers. Maybe they think this is OK, but it sounds/feels unethical to me.

I finally got a 8.6 barrel after waiting what, a year for it. Funny thing is I never got any word from Faxon I ended up running across them at Midway so I grabbed a Superlative Arms Adj. Block and gas tube and threw it on. Now if they ever make muzzle devices.... Heck I may rethread a .308 one at this point if it starts taking months . Very good info from a 40 yr reloader thanks to AP2020. I am ordering the Sinclair mandrels I need to make 8.6 brass. I still haven't seen anything of 8.6 brass from Hornady. Until Lapua and Starline start making 8.6 brass , I trust mine better than most out there. I left Farcebook a long time ago after they threw thousands off because of their views. (Including the president of the US) People need to go to other platforms with reloading besides, Utube and Facebook, who hate 2A and reloading and dont allow it to be shown fully. I am on Gab, Gettr, Truth, and now the newly pro 1st and 2nd amendment platform-Twitter. You can actually post reloading from start to finish on free speech social media sites. See how easy it can be! :)
