Man my heart broke when you explained this brother, thank you so much! The orthodox study bible says something similar to this. "He speaks these words in the name of humanity, completely identifying with our condition, for in His divinity He is never forsaken by the Father." And then it goes on to say "Christ death was voluntary to the very end, for even on the cross, His lofe could not be taken from Him against His Wil. Christ accepts death on the cross, neither to receive the Fathers punishment on our behalf, nor to satisfy the Fathers need for blood-justice (as if God would demand such things) but so thst by entering death as the divine Son of God, He can destroy the last enemy, which is death itself."

I only recently came to Christ. There's a lot of small details I don't understand or know. And it's amazing how this guy helps me see them directly and indirectly. When I say indirectly, I mean his explanations get me to think about and understand the other facts surrounding his point. The details he points out help me understand the broader picture. I've struggled with coming to Christ, believing, having faith. But listening to this man explain is exactly what I need to help me on that journey. To help me understand so I can believe. But I digress. The reason for this comment is the realisation I had about a small but not so small detail he made clear. His explanation about Christ calling out to god is actually evidence of the trinity. In the sense you can see it at work. If the trinity is in perfect unity, perfect agreement, and Jesus is God... That means Jesus, just like God, would know the exact moment on the cross that he had achieved our salvation. Up until that moment, Jesus continued to willingly remain on the cross. But at the very moment Jesus achieved our salvation, his desire to continue that suffering left because suffering any longer wasn't necessary. It's hard to explain what I mean... This might be a crude example, but you know when you got in trouble as a kid, and you were punished? You knew you did wrong, so you took your punishment, being grounded for example. During the period of being grounded, there was always a moment where you understood, you'd learnt your lesson, and you'd know you don't have to be grounded any longer. Because it's purpose had already been achieved, and no more punishment was necessary. It feels like something shifts in you and clicks into place and you ask "how much longer do I have to be grounded for". I think the same concept applies to the moment Jesus cried out. He knew his sacrifice had achieved its purpose, and in desperation cried out because he knew he no longer had to bare the suffering anymore. Hence why he asked how much longer, because he knew/felt his purpose had been achieved and didn't want to suffer anymore than he had to. And god knew it at the same moment because they are one and the same and saved him from unnecessary suffering at that exact moment. I feel like I'm explaining terribly. But hopefully, you get what I mean. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the understanding I have and what I see in this.

Good preaching and teaching! Jesus on the cross FULLY MAN as our perfect sacrifice. Crying out to God the Father and FULLY GOD answering with “It is Finished”.. Psalm 22:14-18! Thank you Jesus!!!

First time listener here, came here after googling, why did Jesus say why have you forsaken me. Thank you for the exegesis. Regarding the virus, I learned that a pastor that I have been listening to for years, had MANY more hearers of his sermons during the virus via the internet. More than he has had for decades. The mandate and ‘uproar’ of not gathering was ignorant of Gods plan of gathering many more via the net. I have wondered if the uproar from many ‘believers’ actually did more harm than good to the lost.

There is so much to say about this beautiful verse which unites and asserts the beautiful Divine and human nature of God. I think the key to fully understanding the verse is by recognizing Jesus' nature as both man and God. As a man, showing weakness, anxiety and bearing our terrors in facing death and as God, using the words of David in a plea that despite his ultimate sacrifice, God deprived Him of the salvation of the reprobate.

its amazing how muslims think we The Christians didn't notice this verse for more than 2000 years !

This guy knows better than Jesus himself. 🤞 A lot of Jesus' messages are as clear as sky. Yet some people try to connect unrelatable dots (read: verses). Jesus speaks as a human being. As a sane human being, I can understand those words as is the context. Some of those words: "My Father is greater than I" "But about that day or hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father" "My God, My God, Why have you forsaken me?" "By Myself, I Can Do Nothing" Some people interpret words with specific context into their own interpretation without bringing the context, like: "I and the Father are one" "before Abraham was I am" Jesus may be right, but twisting our minds is not the way to seek the truth.

First time i read Psalms 22 in its entirety i got chills and had to show it to some one who didnt understand why Jesus would say that on the Cross. So beautiful and still to this day gives me chills. thank you jesus for all that you do for us still and what you did for us then.

Jesus said “God why has thou forsaken me?” Because that’s the moment he took our sins and so felt forsaken by God so that we wouldn’t have to suffer for our sins. He then said “it is finished.” And died.
