Ok HEAR ME OUT....But I have a somewhat Dark Theory as to why that villain wolf looks so much like Steel (apart from sheer laziness.) Notice how Steel just disappears at the end of the first movie with no repercussions whatsoever? Or how he is noticeably absent from THIS movie? Well, it's possible that upon Balto's return and acceptance into the village, he runs away in sheer denial and resentment. Out in the wild is no place for a pampered dog, but he's determined to make it. However, things change when a notices a wolf pack in the area, and all of the pent up rage and resentment reaches a boiling point. He has even more contempt towards wolves, especially with the incident with Balto. He notices a young female in the pack and finds himself thinking with malicious intent. Maybe he just wants to take out his frustration, maybe he's just feeling sadistic. Maybe, just maybe, deep down, he wishes to bear half wolf offspring so that his legacy may one day achieve the same greatness as Balto. Whatever the reason, Steel is able to separate the young wolf from her pack and.......well......yeah.....Months later, a litter of pups are born, and the unwilling mother is shocked to find out that one her pups bear striking resemblance to her assailant. What happens between this and the movie is anyone's guess. Maybe the wolf seeks out his father just to meet him. Maybe it's to kill him. Maybe Steel lives the rest of his life alone and on the stretch, until he dies of natural causes. Or maybe, just maybe, he's alive in secrecy, plotting his revenge. Anyway yah, that's my theory. The writers definitely didn't intend any of this but it's fun to speculate.

@Alteori Steeles fate was never shown in the movie because originally he was supposed to die. There is an unfinished deleted scene from the original balto that features Steele confronting balto again and all the dogs are supporting balto because he is the hero and the humans gave him a fancy collar and which inrages Steele and he attacks balto at the gold dredger and then in the fight Steeles collar got snagged on a lever Steele is hanging above a mine shaft and he struggles to get free but the lever release and he falls in as a bunch of coal barried alive! 😨 leaving only his collar behind hanging on the lever. The studio However thought that was way to dark for the movie so they chose not to finish animating the scene and leaving it out completely. But you can find it on KZfaq.
@ChanoCYBER9Avila
@ChanoCYBER9Avila 2 жыл бұрын
Well that theory is good and all but there's a deleted scene where steel dies by getting hanged in the town. This is after balto leaves the hospital after seeing Rosie and is accepted by the town and later joins the dogs where they accepted and apologize to him for their behavior. During the time steel shows up saying that its not right to accept a Wolf dog but they hold him down and take away his collar which is a symbol of sled dog leader but Balto refuses to wear it because he doesn't want Steel to be confused for a stray and this angers Steel so much where he lunges at Baltos throat but dodges and Steel ends up tied to the carpenters machine where he makes the coffins and in the process Steel dies choking and hanging.

It's because of Balto, I eventually became a zoologist, where I had the opportunity to study wolves and wolf hybrids, Wolf Quest reinforces popular misconceptions people have about wolves. First - Aleu is not the only wolf hybrid, _all_ of her siblings are second-generation wolf hybrids, just because they have a similar appearance to Jenna, does not mean they do not carry traits from Balto too, it's a frightening thought, but once Aleu's brothers and sisters come of age, their wolf genes will no longer be dominant, and this is the danger people get themselves into, when they realise just how risky it is to have wolf hybrids, remember, _they_ _are_ _not_ _dogs_ . Second, the film insists Aleu looks more wolfy than Balto, I disagree, her fur has too much sable, Aleu has a curly tail, blue mouth and blue eyes, this is more indicative of a husky, rather than a wolf, if anything, Aleu looks more like a husky than her mother. Finally, in the wild, wolves do not subsist entirely on caribou, they can forage and fish, plus there are other organisms they can hunt to survive, I also noticed Njiu, the Mark Hamill wolf, had blue eyes, this does not occur in the wild, wolves do not carry the gene that causes blue irises. It's also impossible for Aleu to be the new leader of the pack, she's unrelated to them, wolf packs are families, not human tribes or clans, moreover, Aleu has no experience in the wild, and has no upbringing for wilderness survival, this is the reason we cannot release wolf hybrids into the wild, they lack the means to rough it the forest, very likely and unfortunately, she lead the pack to their deaths, as they drift aimlessly on the sea on a ice floe, chasing a caribou herd that probably suffered the same fate. If you want a good animated wolf film, I recommend Wolfwalkers, it's perhaps one of the best depictions of wolves I have seen, Mebh and Robyn were the characters Aleu was trying to be, so give this a watch instead.

Really shows how you either didn't watch the movie or don't remember it, your first point was already addressed in the movie, right before Aleu runs away after arguing with Balto, she was asking how come humans wanted her siblings despite them being part wolf too, it's because they don't look like wolves tho they inherited the red husky appearance.

Personally, I was always weirded out by how Aleu looks so *little* like her parents. And with her blue eyes and sable coat, she ironically looks more like an actual Siberian Husky than her mother does! Also: Isn't Balto world famous at this point? The guy has a statue of himself in New York City! I realize that the events that lead up to the *real* Balto getting his statue were... very much *not* the same as how animated!wolfdog!Balto got his, but the point still stands. Even if Balto is only well known around Nome, why on earth wouldn't the citizens of Nome be clamoring to adopt his puppies? Especially the one puppy that vaguely resembles him more then Jenna?! Lol, this movie makes no sense. Even as a kid I remember being put off by it. As far as Balto sequels go, I think I'll stick with preferring "Wings of Change" over "Wolf Quest". Arguably even *worse* animation aside, "Wings of Change" is a return to form (Bringing the focus back on dog sledding!) and features a plot that's significantly more grounded in reality.

I honestly love this sequel, I love the mystic vibe (even if it is _very_ ham-fisted about it), and the "Who You Really Are?" song is the _first_ song I ever memorized, it just speaks to me. The movie isn't perfect, very few direct-to-video/DVD sequels are honestly, and they often have flaws and are much more "kiddie-friendly" and so on. Still, the movie got to my heart, so there's that. It has a lot in common with the _Land Before Time_ sequels...man they had a _lot_ of those. 4:13 It was a spirit, so this was all just a test in the end. The Bear was "Inner Knowing" or "Insight" and in this case, it was helping them learn. Alteori, I think you missed some of the crucial concepts of the movie, that those creatures aren't just "symbols" they are _actual_ spirits that are a part of Balto and Jenna's journey. As for the lackluster art design, it's a direct-to-video/DVD sequel, they often do that. The movies aren't meant to be big hits, just get a bit more money and maybe bring some mild entertainment and exploration of new things. They are pretty cheap, but I see appeal in this one nonetheless. I get others not liking it though.

As someone with mixed heritage, this movie meant a lot to me as a kid. It always felt like there was something missing from my identity. People like to hate on how Aliou (funny her phonetical name literally translates to " a wolf") was "more wolf than her father". People seem to take it in the literal sense and it's kinda frustrating to hear. But it was meant in the spiritual sense (which is the entire element of the movie.) "Aliou being more wolf than her dad" is supposed to be comparable to saying "person is more of a farmer than her dad". Because in the context of this movie, "wolf" is seen as an ethnicity, but also a sprituality. Aliou has inherited her grandmother's spirituality that was completely forgone by her father who was too busy chasing after his husky genes. (To each their own path).
@zionthedragon8866
@zionthedragon8866 2 жыл бұрын
As some with mixed heritage, and also understanding of spirituality, unless stated in the movie in a clear way, it's just head canon. And nothing says it's spiritual more so than literal. And so she likes to (I assume) hunt, run, and howl. So what? Despite what this movie implies, most dogs as a matter of fact still like or do wolf like things at their core. It's they are usually made dependent on humans and less trained or built for the environment like they are used to in some dog breeds. Also her being the ONLY one that remotely seems almost boarder line BS. You expect me to believe just ONE looks like balto and yet somehow despite never being around a wolf, and having more dog in her, and never seen a wolf, she just some how acts more wolf? And not ONE of her siblings out of a gazillion (extreme over exaggeration to emphasis she had a lot of pups) of them had atleast a similar: build, grey fur color, or some Spirit of the wolf in them at least a tiny bit? I am going to call CAP. Plus, being a red husky is more rare than grey, so if anything, all but ONE should be grey, if this was more realistic. Or they could have atleast made her a albino which aside for being valued now as rare, back then due to health issues would be deemed undesirable for a working or sled dog. Thus her being not adopted. Could have made story worked around finding a place in the world as a canine deemed essentially "crippled" and wanting to be more than something to point and look at. But as she is written, she comes of sounding a bit like a marry sue at times with everything and how they raise up in the story. I get self discovery as someone with mixed heritage, but this movie essentially saying you got pick a "side" (which imo is just cringe and I have come to tend to have negative connotations with that word with how it's used and the people who have said it) it's just dumb and demeaning in my eyes. And as someone who was put down for not being a full blood and expected to confirm to a stereotype norm by either heritage of me has always made my "mixed" blood BOIL. But, people are free and justified to view it as "literally" more wolf blooded, due to no sound emphasis that logically gives the invocative of being spiritual is given through out the movie that would be easy to grasp for the at least the decent capable minded at the very most imo.

You know, Disney's cartoon depiction of American native culture has got me thinking... Imagine this, Europeans do what Europeans are good at doing, ending up in weird places in the world by getting lost on the way to the bathroom. They end up in North America. "This isn't the bathroom at the brothel in England! Oh well, may as well settle here and build a new bathroom. What's this, natives? They will ruin my plans to build a new bathroom! Better get rid of them!" Native Americans are then like "Oh yeah? How are you going to get rid of us?" Europeans then answer "We have diseases and guns." I think Nijou's henchwolves are just there for comedic relief now that I see this review, and even back then I noticed how similar to Steele Nijou looked. His henchwolvves being there for comedic relief could also be why they have exaggerated body parts and the background wolves look more like real wolves...sans the thick muzzles wolves have, and yknow, real wolf colors lol. Actual wolves also don't have the socks that Balto and the background wolves have. That's a trait solely to dogs/wolfdogs.

I actually like this movie lol And yeah, pure white wolves aren't a thing. Either they are silver or a very light gray. Sometimes, if a wolf is old enough, they will be white, but since wolves don't live long in the wild due to natural causes, that's rarely seen. Wolves can be black and various shades of gray as well as a sort of reddish tone, but never white. Edit: To clarify, I'm talking about the species Balto is mixed with, the gray wolf. Arctic wolves, who are another subspecies, are all pure white to help blend into their surroundings.

The bear was a spirit meant to test them, so I don't think it actually wanted to kill them. Personally, one thing I really liked about the movie is the fact that the young one was really afraid of change while the old one accepted it, since that's so often portrayed the other way around. And I like that the wolf villain was motivated by fear.

This... is honestly not a terrible movie. Storywise, it's a by-the-numbers 2000s sequel that follows the adventures of a child of the main character who wants something that society doesn't like. Unlike many others, the child doesn't return home in Balto 2 - Aleu chooses the life of a wolf, despite being more dog than wolf & honestly spending a lot of time in the film denying her lupine heritage, since she's only ever seen it as "something bad" (she did almost get hurt, after all). Aleu is young and I can understand why someone would call her unlikable... but she's been lied to all her life about what she is & who she's supposed to be. Blame her parents for that, really. If you can't tell, Aleu is my favorite part of this film. Her path of self-discovery is interesting to watch, even moreso with her dad learning with her about the wolf life along the way. Plus, the animation may be awful at times, the backgrounds & creativity of using native Inuit totems & spirit animals is pretty impressive, not gonna lie. I'd call it the best film in the trilogy... But seriously, I hope you tackle that third movie. I really want to hear your opinions on it!

1. Why do they say Alue looks more like a wolf than Balto when she has Husky features and he looks purely wolf? 2. Why didn't the humans want Alue? I know the humans were untrusting of wolves, but surely they'd jump at the opportunity to adopt the pup of the legendary hero Balto. 3. Why did they make Jenna so ugly?! 4. Why did Alue need to read the Bear's mind? Why not just look over the ledge? 5. Where was Jenna in all this? Surely she should help her mate find her lost daughter. 6. Why did Anaiu ditch her lost son right after reuniting with him? Why disguse herself and test him when encountering him? Bad parenting right there. 7. Why did it take just a month for Alue to reach adolecence? I'm guessing the writers don't the moon cycle is completed after a month or that dogs age rapidly. 8. Why do they look like they have cyanosis in some scenes?

Shame we don't have a soundtrack. This Is a sequel that I'll regard as a good sequel, better than All the LBT sequels that we got where they forgot Littlefoot's mother for reasons. Hi! I know this was posted a while ago but I would like to point out a few things I think you misunderstood about the movie (from my interpretation at least) 1. (3:43) The bear does not "pass out", on average bears are 400-600lb, if I weighed that much I would have trouble getting back up too. Also the bear does not attack them because the bear is a spirit sent by Aniu who is both Balto's mother and the great spirit of the wolves. The bear was not there to hurt them, but rather to help encourage Aleu to find her place. 2. (6:03) Although I see how you think it could be "convenient" I believe that Aniu is looking out for her granddaughter and sends her (and Balto follows) to help her find her place among the pack, as she would have continued to be unhappy in Nome. 3. (6:28) I see your point, but I believe that the way Nava said this did not imply that the two requirements were linked, rather it being "the one who is wolf. And who also doesn't know" Doesn't know what? well we end up finding out that Aleu didn't know what she was destined for. 4. (9:56) That weird looking frame is actually called a smear frame! It's a technique animators use to depict fast movement. If you look up smear frames you can find a bunch of different examples of silly looking frames like this, especially in older 2d media like looney toons! Although I can totally see some of your points, I still thuroughly enjoyed the movie as it helped me realize that I don't have to change to fit in where I'm from, but rather I can find somewhere else I can fit in. The movie is straight to DVD and has some animation errors and that is quite heart breaking for a sequel of one of my (and I'm assuming yours) favorite 2d films. A sequels deserved better, but for what we got, I enjoyed it for what it was. A rushed piece of media with a unique take on a popular theme with some of my favorite characters. P.s. I also like the parallels to the first movie as it enforces "like father like daughter", and i think it's cute to see her face some of the same danger

Some of the kids have unquie designs which maybe mini tv series could have gone into it? One as a Mail delivery, Family dog, perhaps a helper or healer.
