This is the best demo I have seen. I realise that I can use charcoal for my watercolour tonal sketches as well as more finished pieces. It "clicked" Thank you ❤

Additional note. I use a workable fixative to protect my charcoal or graphite drawings. Always a wise idea.

Expensive ? Perhaps, yes. Expressive is what you meant to write, of course :) Great comment nonetheless. ✅✅

You can also add water with a brush to charcoal to make beautiful effects. Charcoal is water soluble. Love your art today.

Can you use the same paper for watercolors as with carbon?
@charlottesmom
@charlottesmom 19 күн бұрын
@@metchac The paper used in the video is for both charcoal (along with other dry media) but also accepts light watercolor. But yes you can use charcoal on heavy watercolor paper, also along side watercolor. 👍🏻

Beautiful as always. I saw some lovely sketchings once with charcoal underdrawing and watercolour. The charcoal moved in the water a little like ink does to make shadows more blended. I keep meaning to try the technique.

Charcoal is the best, I’d rather use it than a pencil it gives you everything but colour. It is soooo fragile though and once you use fixative it never looks the same. Tape a little sheet of glassine or tissue paper to help protect your drawings. Really like your drawing, glad to see you are using the real stuff, there something about the lightness of the medium in your hand that allows you a kind of freedom….

The charcoal inspires us to reflect about the human need for art and expression, since it appeared together with man (Paleolithic)

I understand you, that no one spoke to you about it. I bought inexpensive coil pens. it was my good luck that i didbought 2 pack of 3 white and 3 black pens, about 30 years ago, they still work great. Very beautiful sea view you have a sketch.. Hugs from Tess Sweden ❤

Lovely work! I’d recommend the Mad Charcoal channel if you ever desire inspiration for charcoal drawing. Not that you need inspiration. But, I think you’d enjoy observing his process. A lot. 😊

Great painting though you used the charcoal stick as a pencil. It is not a pencil and is not meant to be used as a pencil. Try using the sides of the charcoal stick. Not its raw point. There is a reason why the charcoal set that you've bought has some blocks of charcoal and a sandpaper. Cut your stick in smaller pieces and sand it in one of its sides until it becomes pointy ( you can do this with a craft knife as well). Then use that side to draw and the pointy end to define the details and then you'll see how much more expressive lines you are going to get on your paper and how much more cleaner it will be. Check if your are interested this video to see the technique in the way that is taught in Art Academies. (random video I'm not affiliated with the guy who is presenting the technique). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fp-DdMeSlda1hH0.html Interestingly I had a difficulty to find a video that presents the basic charcoal technique. A lot of videos on YT show artists who use on their charcoal drawings the painting tools and techniques that are more suitable for painting with pastels that is a similar but not the same medium as charcoal, as pastels are applied in layers. Charcoal is monochrome and is a completely different thing.

@@niazhannanwatercolors I don't deserve the credits because I'm not teaching you as the video is not mine. I've just provided some information because I used to draw with charcoal. In any case it is very beneficial for artists to try and master new techniques and mediums because it allows them to expand their creativity. A new medium can change completely your thinking and creative process. Understanding for instance how to create in monochrome and in blocks of values, something that you can master easier with charcoal and graphite, can help you have more balanced results when it is applied to any other medium wet or dry one. Watercolor boosts on the other hand spontaneity due to the nature of this particular medium. And so on so forth. Art is a constant learning process. There is no end to the mediums that you can try and the techniques that you can master.
