Social Security disability claimants over age 50 generally have better odds than younger claimants for winning disability benefits. This is not to say that you cannot win if you are less 50 years old with compelling medical records in your file, but our experience has been that Social Security judges tend to give older claimants more of the benefit of the doubt.
As discussed in this video, claimants who are 50+ can use the grid rules to ask for an approval, whereas this theory of disability is not available to younger individuals. Older claimants also often have longer work histories and a long and consistent employment record is a positive factor in any disability claim.
If you are age 50 or older, or even if you are in your late 40's and struggling to work because of a serious medical or mental health issue, Social Security disability could help you. If you would like a no obligation case evaluation, please reach out to me.
