No Disney has made over 1 billion with each live action remake. Their only goal is to make money and not create good content, since they bought half of the film industry, they have no competition left. In order to make her an anti-hero, they totally villainized the princess' father and had him viola te her. In the original, he is an honest, cheerful man who is a bit silly at times but in a charming way. I don't mind them telling her side of the story, but to completely assassinate another character to that end is just terrible, imo. Halle Bailey could be a great Ariel, but the new Little Mermaid was doomed to be "yet another live-action Disney remake that SUCKS" the minute Melissa McCarthy was (mis)cast as Ursula. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for 1940's Pinocchio, thanks largely to the songs and to Walter Catlett's roguish, charismatic "Honest John." But purely in terms of film quality, I think you're right: Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio does manage to surpass it. It tells a deeper and more compelling story.

I will say that to add facial expressions to animals that don’t normally show those emotions is EXTREMELY hard. You have to give them expressions they don’t normally have while trying to make it look realistic. The chronicles of narnia struggled with that in the first 2 movies. Like how do you make a lion look sad?! But they managed to do it. But it’s very hard and I’m sure they tried their best. That’s about as much credit I’ll give disney.

I recently watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Late to the party, I know, but one of the things that struck me about the film is how much the backgrounds, lighting and colors impact the emotional weight of the scenes. Like in the scene where Puss first meets the wolf. The dark grays and browns with Puss sitting at the bar as the brightest object jr screen that immediately draws your attention. Then the wolf appears next to him reflected in the mirror behind the bar and you immediately know he's tiny and vulnerable and the wolf is up to no good before a single word has passed between the two. Scenes like this can only be effectively portrayed in animation and the animated original Disney films are also full of them. Think how much the volcano setting added to Be Prepared in The Lion King and the live action version just has the characters basically standing around.

I miss 2D animation so much. I was a big Batman, Nightcrawler & X-Men the Animated series fan growing up. The story of mutants was universally relatable. Captain Planet. Thundercats, He-man, Spawn was so awesome and the entire world around him is so unique. It's such a creative range of character's, creatures, unique, weird, macabre things. I loved how things used to not be afraid to embrace difficult situations, odd things, eerie things. Good stories used to be told, in very creative intelligent ways. Nowadays everything is this cheap cop out shallow live action version nonsense. I miss the Era of creativity, of animated series, of things that made us utilize our intelligence and what makes us human that connects us to any character no matter what kind of character, creature, specie's they are. There is so many stories we could be telling and art that we could be creating but we are treating our entire audience like they are 2 yr olds that just need shiney keys waved in front of their face for entertainment.. But at the end of the day it's a very shallow cheap way to entertain... That's how I look at a lot of modern day media. ~~~~~~~~ I sincerely don't think kids who are younger than 20 understand just how open-minded & creative the 90's were. I was born in 1989 & I had a very diverse range of friends. The media, commercials, movies, TV shows were all Genuinely diverse and well made. Man I miss that era and I don't get how we have actually went BACKWARDS. Video games, animated series, TV shows, movies, things to do, everything was just so awesome and creative and people were real. I hope we reconnect with that.

The funniest problem with these movies is that... they all aren't live action action. They're live-action animated films. Hell! Lion King (2019) is nearly fully animated. The only thing that isn't animated is the sunrise in the VERY beginning. That's it. It's realistically animated, not live action. And doing so I believe discredits the animators that worked on it.

And the sin is, they could work, they have potential to work. Not as reboots of the originals but as original retellings of those same stories. Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, theyve all had films about them before and you can make new and very interesting live action films about them while pushing new artistic grounds, something which Disney had once been famous for.

The biggest fault why these remakes happens is because Disney owns waaaay too many properties to be able to focus on only one. That’s why they keep coming, they don’t have the time to come up with ideas for originals anymore.

Hey hun ☺️ I'm glad ur latest video popped off, you deserve it and make great videos! If you liked Cruella, i think you'd love Maleficent! It's got its own story and doesn't feel like the rest of the live action slogs. THANK YOU SO MUCH for pronouncing Guillermo del Toro's name correctly! I've sadly gotten used to the way the majority say it that I actually had to rewind when u said it and be like "...no way" I know it's no big deal, but it's nice as a brown person when things are correctly said. Hope ur doing ok, keep up the good work hun 💞

The only live-action Disney movie I actually inherently enjoyed was Cinderella. I didn't watch the original as much because I despised the mice and the 2015 remake allowed me to finally appreciate the characters and expound upon elements that weren't really explored. A bunch of Disney remakes is unnecessary because the originals are perfect but Cinderella is a case where it had some room to grow and change and Kenneth Branagh was able to capture that magic. I hope people stop falling for nostalgia (which Hollywood loves these days) and go see an original film with original stories.

As someone that’s watched almost all of the remakes, I will say that the two Maleficent movies were actually amazing in my opinion! Most of these films tried to move away from the source material, but not toooo far away as to create an entirely different story. But that’s where they lost a lot of the charm. With the Maleficent films, they changed them so much that you could see there was actually that same passion for story telling as they had in the 90s! I felt the same thing about the Alice In Wonderland films! And then you have Cinderella. They kept things more faithful to the original film and it works! Aladdin, Beauty And The Beast, The Lion King, Dumbo, Pinocchio, etc. They tried way to hard to modernize aspects of the films that they sacrificed how those aspects worked. And we’re already seeing this with the new Peter Pan movie. And we might possibly see that with The Little Mermaid (although, nothing’s stood out to me thus far that would indicate it, but ya never know). My point is, the early to mid 2010s showed Disney actually making an effort with these films! Late 2010s to present is just Disney pandering to the general public with identity marketing and not actually using those changes to make a better movie. And it sucks because Disney/Pixar has given us Moana, Coco, Encanto, Turning Red and so many other amazing films during this time period. So, it’s not like they’re incapable of making bad films. They just seem to really be going for guaranteed box office successes.

All i know is that when i saw their announcement in that the princess and the frog ws going to be the last true 2d animated film, i cried. 2d animation is what we want and crav, and while adding some 3d elements isn't necessarily bad, Live Action films do not hit the same whatsoever. it lost it's unique spark and touch that comes from the art of animaiton. I hope some of the new generation that want to becoma part of Disney push for animation to thrive again. :(

I maybe alone in enjoying SOME of the remakes. This maybe because I never really grew up on the original films as a kid, but I did enjoy some of them. Cruella and Maleficent are definitely my favourites, and I like that they actually tried to be creative. I did like Aladdin remake too, and the new songs. But that's about it. The rest are just copies of the originals just to make money....and you can understand why Disney keeps doing them; the lion King remake is their best movie for box office success, and Beauty and The Beast is up there too I'm pretty sure. Disney won't stop until these remakes stop making money.

But on that note I also have an unpopular Disney Live-Action opinion.... I liked the Lion King. _Not_ more than the original, never, but I don't think the Lion King remake was at all as bad as everyone made it out to be. I didn't find the animals not emoting in their faces a problem, because if you know how animals emote, it's not much of a bother. Also the photo-realistic environments and animation is quite breathtaking to look at.

If they decide to do a Disney live action remake of Tarzan then they should make it 2 hours and 42 minutes long so it will have enough action and adventure in it and it would also be a musical as well. That way all the characters can sing their own songs. I would also throw in a Disney live action version of Queen La from Disney’s Legend of Tarzan series in this movie and have her be played by Estelle. The main antagonist in this film would be Queen La the second one would be her pet leopard 🐆 Sabor and the third and final one would be Clayton.

I prefer animation because it has a lot more freedom in what it can present. From an Artistic perspective, it's literally the best choice. The reason these don’t work is simple. You cannot make things that happen in 2d animation look realistic in 3d let alone give off the same energy. Think about every single scene in the animated where there was a lot of emotion; scary moments, sad moments even happy moments. The entire ENTIRE color scheme of the whole scene including background changed. In 3d you cannot make the world turn black and blue for sad scenes for example. Also the expression in animation includes body “contortion” if you will the scene show here where Iago slams into a wall and turns into a pancake, you can’t get that in real life, think tom and jerry the exaggerated animation isn’t possible in 3d. So 3d will always ALWAYS look boring compared to the animated, because it is simply impossible to give the same energy, emotion and exaggeration into “real life”.

If Disney wants to do more live action movies, stick with Pirates of the Caribbean. Or make new original live action movies like they did in the 1990s and the 2000s. Lion King live action version can't even count as a live action, there's no human beings except for the voice actors that are voicing those CGI animals, and those CGI animals, while looking realistic in their own right, have literally no life in their eyes like the original animated version did. I understand it is hard to find an actor or actress that looks exactly like the original animated version, have a great singing voice, and great at acting out the emotions that were presented in the original animations, but I do feel that I'm robbed by Disney, they tried to make changes to their own original characters that people accepted and don't have a problem grew up watching them as the way they were. And in those live action remakes, they cut out the songs that were necessary in the animation medium and necessary for the plot to move forward because they think it will work better. Like in The Little Mermaid and the scene that took place in the lagoon with the song "kiss the girl". For me, growing up watching the scene in the lagoon is one of the most romantic animated scenes I've ever seen and one of my favorite scenes, and "kiss the girl" is one of my favorite Disney songs. Those animators back in those days know how to make the magic and love and romance show in the animations, I've seen stage shows of Disney's The Little Mermaid, and those are far better than the remake version that Disney made, I really see the respect for Disney's original characters in those stage shows, and then I look at Disney's version and they just suck. I also feel like during the renaissance era and before the renaissance era, those animators just know how romance and magic works in animations. But today, with their remakes of the original version of their animations, live actions, and somehow-we-have-to-show-the-world-we're-not-racist attitude, constant race swapping, changing the original songs and message that they wanted to send in those animations, the magic and romance and love just vanished from the original version. The Little Mermaid was my entire childhood, I've been watching it since I was 6 years old, and I still love it just as much as I did now that I'm an adult. But their live action remakes really make me ask did they ever watch the animations they made, because I can promise you I understand why the plot of the original ones were the way they were and why the animations were drawn the way they were, I can understand all that as a 6 year old girl and Disney can't understand it. Not to mention that The Little Mermaid was the first animation that pulled Disney up from being almost bankrupt to making money again and making an iconic character that people can recognize just by some simple features, and that's all the respect that she receive when making it into the live action? They changed the songs, they changed Ariel's look, and then put on CGI animals trying to tell me those are better than the original animations and they still have the nerve to call it The Little Mermaid and use Ariel's name? It's like they ruined my childhood, which I remembered clearly just like it had just happened, and tell me that their live action remake of it is good. Yeah, I love Disney's animated original version of The Little Mermaid, but I'm not watching their live action remake of it. Constant race swapping is going to backfire eventually, just try to make original stories, if people don't have a problem with the original character designs then just stick with it, don't try to change it and then accuse people of overreacting and being racist after the movies are released.

Thing is, not all Disney animated films are hailed as timeless classics. Some of them faded into obscurity as time goes on. And eventually they’re forgotten. Like, would the general public recognize “The Black Cauldron”? Or “The Rescuers”? Or “Dinosaur”? The way I see it, these live-action remakes are Disney’s way of revitalizing their forgotten franchises. Like “The Jungle Book” or “Lady and the Tramp” - I’m using these 2 as examples because they don’t have the same popularity as the Disney Princess films. And where I live, I see no merchandise for these 2, while Disney Princess merch are everywhere.
