The athletes in this video are attractive, but if you watch the Olympics or a regular European soccer game you see wayyyyyy more average or unattractive athletes than attractive ones. It also highly depends which kind of sport they're doing. Marathon runners do not look healthy by beauty standards (they look worn out and scrawny) for ex.

I thought the same. But in the same soccer game Spectrum, just take out the top 10 players in the league. I'm fairly certain most of them are above average in looks. I would argue that a lot of it comes down to eating healthy and doing a lot of exercise from a young age. Chances are if your professional you have been training in that sport for most if not close to all your childhood, before your features are fully grown. That amount of good going into the body before it is fully formed is bound to positively impact, especially bone structure, posture, skin clearness, etc.

I could see how doing all those right things from a young age would allow your genetics to express their potential. However, lots of people are still disadvantaged genetically so even growing up optimally they may still not be able to 'compete' with those who also grew up optimally but who also have great genetics. It's still well worth doing regardless of genetics though.

I laughed but this is also very true. People have it in there head that the jaw structure is 100 percent genetically determined.Even though orthodontists and dentists make this claim- it's total but profitable B.S. Face day starts the day a baby is born- breast feeding and the transition to chewing exercises "called eating less processed food" will insure that someone ends up with at least a decent jaw. There is not an animal in the wild that needs orthodontist. Just humans that feed their young processed mush starting with the Agricultural revolution and getting especially bad in the 20th/21st century.

@benroberts1446 This won't change your genetic jaw shape or things like chin length. What it will do is keep your teeth straight and make your jaw muscles strong. Some people do have genetically better-looking faces, but if you eat right and develop your jaw properly, the only difference between you and another person with a better-looking jawline is esthetics. Google mewing, and you'll go down the rabbit hole that will give you all of this information. Just be sure to be critical and fact-check everything. Some people straight up claim that it will impact your intelligence and height. It won't. It will just make your teeth straight and strong.

I think attractive people are more successful at everything across the board because they're better supported/nurtured than ugly people. At a peer level ugly people tend to get excluded, picked on, made fun of more than good looking people, which makes it harder to compete against those people. Attractive people will receive more enthusiasm and better mentorship allowing them to excel in all fields. Think of it this way, an ugly person is more likely to be humiliated by their peers when they make a mistake and conversely a beautiful person is more likely to be cheered when they succeed at something.

Dancers and yogis definitely move more gracefully and have better posture. It’s also very attractive when people combine a more graceful form of athleticism with a more robust /powerful form. For example Jeon Jungkook from BTS is a skilled dancer and they do both graceful and artistic dances and some that require a lot of physical power, he also loves boxing. So even when he walks he has both grace and power, it definitely makes me want to learn boxing too! 🥊 😂 it’s so attractiveeee!!

There are so many factors, including symmetry, circulation, hormones, and vitality. Asymmetric people (one arm longer than the other) are unlikely to run or swim as fast or jump as high. A symmetric body is also likely to be reflected in a symmetric face, which is widely considered attractive. Also, there are many "flaws" that are unlikely to appear in athletes, such as poor posture, a hunchback or swayback, etc. Also, if you are getting a ton of exercise your hormonal profile and circulation are likely to be very good. Those who have the best circulation and hormones are likely to have the best hair (since circulation feeds hair and hormonal problems can affect hair too) and skin. It's all a big, interconnected loop. The part that I never considered was the fact that athletes also maximize their social value. Also, for many, hard work and commitment are attractive qualities in a potential partner, so it seems that athletes would be prequalified for that as well. Interesting topic!

I noticed that coaches often picked players before me because they had good solid faces and jaws in comparison to me, they maybe looked more competent and masculine even though in training I won more ball, scored a bit more and ran a bit more than them. It has been proven that those who exceed in sport, were often in some way favored by their coach. Even if they didn't necessarily have the most talent, the fact that their coaches put most of their time believing in them and pushing them, they end up succeeding. In fact, expecting one to succeed actually increases the chances of them going far in the sport they do, while the opposite also applies. So through the halo effect, more attractive people might get more chances to be in the spotlight because of this unconscious bias and might end up getting farther than those who actually had more talent, but no one to bring out that talent.

Bruh, you're from a different part of Australia than me. In high school and primary school ALL the athletic kids were popular and most of the popular kids were athletes (yes I did go to school in a small town). But this did cool down the further from primary school you got, most kids left sports to start focusing on studies around year 10. A contrast to the US where athletes get more competitive so they can get college scholarships and whatnot.

Becoming an athlete would also probably make even your face more attractive in most cases because, even if it's just a small effect, exercising more and eating healthier would, for example, reduce the amount of fat in your face, maybe slightly increase the muscular strength in your neck and face and possibly even things like making your skin healthier from a better diet etc. So even if it weren't the case that more attractive people were more likely to go into sports and were just a random selection of the population, they would become more attractive on average. In other words, when you have a healthier lifestyle you're maximizing the potential attractiveness of your face, whereas someone who is unhealthy is probably making their face less attractive even if it started out average or above-average.

This phenomenon can also be seen in the design of sports cars. Sports cars are more atractive than utilitarian vehicles. often this cars have exaggerated features like air vents for better cooling, or big brake calipers that you can show off by painting them red or neon. There is a lot of performance and also make up 💅

Performing athletic feats of excellence takes skill , genetics, and confidence. Attractive people tend to be more confident so that statistically increases the odds of a hardworking, genetically gifted attractive person being successful at athletics. I was 6'6 220 with a 40 inch vertical im highschool but was a constant under achiever on the court come game time, but an all star in practice... because I lacked self esteem and would get severe stage fright come game time. I wasnt considered attractive and my nickname in highschool in some circles was "ugs". Short for ugly. The best ball players growing up around me were attractive and exuded extreme confidence. ( Not normal confidence either , I'm talking about invincible confidence lol ). That is a major factor in athletics that I dont think non athletes truly grasp.

Also, elite athletes have the money to fix their teeth, whiten their teeth, get skin care, and other stuff, not all of them, but it enhances the physical attributes that were genetically given, and improved upon all the training they have done. Simply put, people who do sports more regularly, rend to become more physically attractive, and more attractive traits can be found on the better suited for sports.

A sport where you'll find lots of conventionally attractive(as far as facial features) athletes is body building. Being naturally pretty/handsome as well as generally likable can be the difference between winning 1st or 2nd place against someone who is equally conditioned and well proportioned as you. In both natural body building and non natural body building top athletes are always extremely beautiful (in my opinion) and usually very kind.(at least in public) however body building is also a wierd sport because it requires a level of showmanship that other sports typically don't. Well except sports gymnastics or dance as far as i can think of right now.

About the jaw thing. Men who have higher testosterone levels also tend to jaw more defined and pronounced jaw lines. You have to remember one thing which is often forgotten. Athletes generally strain themselves on practice, which leads to high tension situations on jaw - squeezing your teeth, vibrations, accelerations. Tension promotes bone growth, leading to more chiseled mandible. Again your body works as a whole, it's really hard to promote muscle and bone growth in just one area, and even your face changes with that. I remember from some study on chickens that even very small vibratory stimulus made their bones 30% more dense - the vibration added was almost negligable.

You could probably have 2 equaly skilled kids playing football but just because one has a much better looking face he will just outright be pushed more by his coach, receive more playtime thus resulting in him overtaking his equal mate.

The biggest factor this video failed to mention is that Most high end athletes come from Higher income homes. They have had a better diet, healthcare, dental care, access to training equipment to stay in shape or practice their sport or skill. so athletes as a category is already pulled from a much smaller demographic of higher income backgrounds.

As a fan of track, I've noticed so many female athletes with beautiful faces, I was wondering about the connection between athleticism and a fine face, but then I decided that historically and evolutionarily strong, athletic men would have been better hunters and warriors aka providers and protectors and therefore be more likelly to be "alpha males" in society capable of choosing the most beautiful women to mate with, thus leading to offspring with an extra dose of both beauty and athleticism in the DNA
@YakAttack64

Your point on the jaws was interesting. Athletes have nice jawlines because they most likely eat good food throughout their life, specifically meat. Meat develops the face muscles, which promotes better breathing, resulting in a more attractive face and potentially higher performance in athletics. It’s partially genetics but mostly diet and if your mother breastfed you or not.

The symmetry may be correlation in addition to causation. If two people try out for a sport, and are of equal skill or ability, the more attractive one will be paid attention to more, causing that athlete to get more training, and a,so to be chosen to compete more often.

Because the way you're selecting for "athletes" is by picking ones with attractive faces. I'm guessing you don't personally care about or follow sports. If you followed a wide range of sports and athletic competitions you wouldn't think that athletes have more attractive faces than the rest of the population at all

I would also just put into consideration the way major sporting events have a bias in selecting good looking faces and bodies, particularly in women's sports, and it's even worse for for girls competing who aren't even 18 years of age. So there's beauty bias and ageism happening behind the scenes which is unfortunate. Edit: Also POC/black athletes are also affected much more, including more strenuous routines and "diets"

Why is no one talking about the fact that people who have money are able to afford the best diets, the best trainers, the best skincare, better dental care, therapy etc. Athletics aside, look at celebrities who we deem attractive today and note how they looked before the fame and fortunes. YES, athleticism will contribute to naturally defined features but when funds are available these celebs will be able to accelerate their looks and capitalize on it with better sponsorships and contracts etc.

There's another issue that the video seems to forget. I don't know if you've seen photos of some athletes when they were not famous? Some of them don't look the way they do today and that's because they got money. Cristiano Ronaldo is a good example of that, and for almost anything money is the solution: braces, hair transplant, surgery, you name it. So in some cases beauty is not a given thing, but rather something you acquire overtime

Here's a heart-warming story. Real Madrid, a giant football club in Spain were offered the chance to sign Ronaldinho, a fantastic Brazilian footballer who could do amazing tricks. The Madrid president said Ronaldinho was too ugly and instead signed David Beckham. Beckham was a very, very good player nevertheless, plus he had better marketability. Barcelona, Madrid's rivals, were also looking to sign Beckham. But after they missed out, they signed Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho created a mini-revolution in Barcelona's success and took them back to the top, including winning the Champions League (the biggest club trophy in Europe). He also won the award for best player in the world. Ronaldinho looked kind of goofy with his buck-teeth, but that didn't stop him from constantly smiling whenever he played. It became his iconic signature. The joy with which he played football, coupled by his amazing effectiveness won the hearts of millions around the world. So many professionals today will say that Ronaldinho was their inspiration growing up. Never let your looks stop you from being the best you can be. Never let someone tell you that you are worth less because you don't have the right facial features. People look at the outside but God looks at the heart.
