Canadian grocery giants have long claimed that they've only raised food prices to offset their increased expenses. But now, with many supply chain issues having been resolved, and energy prices coming down, the Canadian consumer still isn't feeling any relief, and the grocers continue to post record profits.
With many Canadians already struggling to feed themselves and their families, and food prices projected to rise even further in 2024, restoring food affordability has become an absolute necessity. So how do we do that?

How much carbon tax adds up between every level of the industry before it gets to grocers? Farmer, utilities, gas, transportation, distribution, etc

@@tomace194 the only money the Feds are making is the increased GST revenue from the carbon tax but they spend that cash on healthcare. Basically the GST is a healthcare tax because the money generated nationally nearly equates to how much the Feds send the provinces & territories in Federal Healthcare funding every year.

@@winstonsmith4108 lol I have an accounting and finance background. Poilievre is intentionally lying about the carbon tax and climate change in a period of high global inflation. What is he going to do when inflation flatlines and interest rates start being cut? He reminds me a lot of former Ontario Conservative Leader Tim Hudak who led polls by double digits multiple times when he was in office and still lost two consecutive elections to McGuinty and Wynne. McGunity was reduced to a borderline majority largely because of teacher’s strikes and the NDP winning an unexpected byelection in Waterloo that could have restored his majority.

What nobody seems to be talking about is how this flood of immigration also puts pressure on inflation particularly of food and housing. Prices are set by the market with supply and demand in play. With millions and millions of new mouths to feed going to specific parts of the country increases demand dramatically. As a result these parts of the country will experience more inflation than the rest of the the USA.

The question I have about the analysis done is sure the researcher looked at the the data by industry, however did he control for products? For example, many of the big chain groceries stores sell non-food products like clothes and housewares. I'm not saying the analysis is completely flawed, but this is something that needs to be taken into consideration and it is not clear in this interview that the researcher did this.
