If you have ever asked yourself. Why do i have moisture on the inside of my house windows your not alone and by between I mean between the two panes of glass). Moisture can find its way between glass windows when the seal fails. This is a common problem with double pane windows. The moisture once inside the windows of your house can stain the glass, corrode the spacer, and further destroy the seal leading to more moisture. We will also give you a few ways to resolve this problem.

If you are extremely handy, you can repair this. The beed that binds the glass to the frame is made of a black tar putty. If you are broke, have time and want to save money, you can repair. Remove one side with a very sharp razor knife and clean the glass on the inside with glass cleaner, use a blow dryer to make sure it's dry. Place the glass back on the tar seal, use a hot air gun or blow dryer to get the seal sticky. For extra measures, apply a very thin coat of clear silicone to the entire edge to ensure the seal is water proof, put the glass back in before the silicone drys, otherwise it might be tough getting it back in. This is not so easy, I have done it. On the window i have now, I am able to do this myself, but I have the money and no time, so I am going to replace the glass. lol.

you can't, you will damage the spacer, possibly the glass, and won't be able to get an adequate seal when you are done. Assuming you didn't break the glass trying to get it apart.

@@gregcorwin8316 Well as you can see my comment is 6 months old and since no one replied I tried it anyway and all is good. Just by a packet of razor blades, you will go thru a lot of them. @frederick5652 So, all I have to do is build a negative pressure chamber big enough to work in, strap on my scuba gear, and get to work. Sounds simple enough. One negative atmosphere should do, and that is only 14.7 pounds per square inch.

We have single glasses windows in the kitchen and they get really wet from condensation. I tried some shaving foam on them yesterday - it works OK. Would Rain X work best - or is there some other anti-fogger you would recommend?.. Would the stuff for shower doors work better than rain x?..

@@imwaytogoodlookingtobeyour1188 Your front windshield is laminated glass. Laminated glass consists of two layers of glass sandwiching a layer of soft plastic called PVB or polyvinyl Butyral. The idea of laminated glass os that in the event the glass breaks the plastic interlayer will hold the broken glass in place rather than have it collapse all over the people in the car. Many auto manufacturers are now using laminated glass in side windows for both safety (keeps you in the car incase of a rollover or similar accident) and security (someone can't just smash your side window), but very few cars have laminated rear windows; rear windows are almost always tempered with very few exceptions. Tempered glass ios made by heating the glass to high temperature and then cooling it rapidly under tightly controlled conditions. This results in glass that is much stronger than ordinary glass and if it does break, it breaks into tiny cubes which are much safer when compared to big, sharp, pointy shards of glass than can kill you. Very rarely laminated glass can have staining between the lites, almost always due to moisture intrusion, but there are also chemicals that can do the same. Tempered glass being just a single monolithic lite is going to be impervious to any soft of moisture or chemical leaching into the glass, but there are a few potentially visible phenomena that can occur in tempered glass related to stresses and strains inherent in the glass that occur because of the tempering process. These sorts of visible phenomena might become visible if you look at the glass while wearing polarized sunglasses for example, or become noticeable when looking at the glass from a sharp angle in particular lighting conditions. Is this a new car to you or have you had it for some time? Is the staining visible all the time or just in certain conditions? What does it look like and did it just appear one day or ?is it growing larger?

Hello Glass Guy. My theory for broken seals where I live is caused by earth and house settling and also earth quakes. :)
@theglassguy5564
@theglassguy5564 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you The Window Cleaning Specialists, LLC that is possible but most likely that would cause broken glass not seals. If a window sees a lot of direct sun or water that can cause seal failure.
@thewindowcleaningspecialis2282
@thewindowcleaningspecialis2282 3 жыл бұрын
@@theglassguy5564 Seals are the rubber silicone that goes around the IG unit. If the seal cracks or is compromised do to earthquakes or the glazer not sealing the window properly. Fog or condensation will appear. Happens a lot. 30 years experience. Tell me how this seal fails exactly in the sun? Failure by sun is impossible.
@gregcorwin8316
@gregcorwin8316 2 жыл бұрын
@@thewindowcleaningspecialis2282 There are probably close to 100 different spacers available just in North America, although the top dozen or so probably account for over 95% of all IG units. Some of them use silicone and some don't. Some are metal (aluminum, plated steel, stainless steel) and some are foam. Some use fiberglass and some use polyurethane. Sun = heat. Sun shining directly on a window is going to cause the air or gas in the airspace between the lites to expand. Air expansion will bow the glass outward slightly, stressing the seal between the spacer and the glass. As the air cools it will contract and the glass will relax back to normal. Colder air at night will result in the airspace contracting and the glass will bow inward, again stressing the bond between the glass and the spacer. This is a daily occurrence known as breathing or cycling and it's nonstop as long as the window fills the opening. Depending on spacer durability and quality of construction, this might eventually lead to seal failure - caused by the sun. Another possibility, much more common with certain non-metallic spacers, is that if the glass becomes hot enough in full sun the bond between the spacer and glass will let go. Worst case the spacer will literally soften and semi-melt, drooping into the airspace. Again, seal failure caused by the sun. Agree with The GlassGuy that settling and earthquakes are more likely to break glass than cause IG seal failure. IMO by far the number one cause of IG seal failure is sitting in water that's trapped in the windows glazing channel.
