I saw Bring Me The Horizon support Machine Head many years ago. The crowd pelted them with beers throughout their set. They calmly collected all the pint jars so that by the end of their set, their was small wall of empty pints across the stage. They only time they gave the crowd shit was when Oli announced their last song, 'This is called 'I'm supporting your favourite band and you never fucking will'.

I’m loving the way every negative comment I get on this relates to my age! Like, being in my 40s means I’m not allowed an opinion of it? Is that your only comeback? Brilliant, I stand corrected.

Another cool one is talking about my potted history of drug abuse, like that means I forfeit the right to a musical opinion. Tellingly, nobody can actually tell me I’m wrong, they just make an unpleasant remark about my life and tell me to listen to other sections of the BMTH catalogue. I’m reacting to this song in its own right, and looking for positives. Sorry if that offends, dismiss me on whatever grounds you like. Most importantly, like and subscribe. Cheers

@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain My favorite rock story...that time Lemmy was in a bar and ABBA was playing and some run of the mill edgelord walked up to him, trying to score credibility points, and said, "can you believe they're playing that shit in here?" Lemmy looked at him and asked, "how many number 1 hits have you written?" People who have no confidence in themselves, or are unable to defend their position articulately, often resort to casting aspersions and/or lobbing personal attacks bombs. Consider the source. Are they Novello songwriting award winners? No. Are you? Hope you feel better soon. This channel brings me great pleasure.

Hey man I’m a fan of BMTH but I appreciated your breakdown. Honestly I wouldn’t have recommended this song for someone that’s sceptical of the band, it’s fun but one of the somewhat weaker songs of their more recent music. Perhaps parasite eve, kingslayer, or dear diary would have been better options. It’s hard to typify their sound even when using just one album however.

Your take on Pop and Rock music being very often blurred intrigues me. As such, I was wondering whether you would consider analysing the Arctic Monkeys latest album (or perhaps just a single track)? I, and it should be noted that I am in no way a musician, cannot decipher what type of music it is, or whether it fits a single/cluster of genre(s). I thought that this may lend itself to your style of analysis. Merry Xmas.

@@murphyman104 even if that is true many many bands have tried this route and failed. BMTH has released records ranging from Metalcore to Pop between 2013-2019 and all have been top 20 albums in U.K. and USA. Then they go and release a record in 2020 that sounds a bit like their first album. They don’t seem to be following trends, but taking risks, both with their label and fan base, and it’s paying off so far. It’s so rare to see a band these days be given the freedom to do that but they have earnt it.
@CoffeeMatt10
@CoffeeMatt10 2 жыл бұрын
@@pratosaurusrex1128 they have kind of flip-flopped between genres with each new release over the last decade, sometimes blending elements, so one is a more heavy sound and then the next is poppier, then heavy again and then poppy and so on. It’s when they play live that it is put to the test, because you know the audience is going to be split between those that prefer their heavier material and those that prefer the poppier material, finding the balance in the studio is one thing, but on stage? That’s a high-wire balancing act with no net, get the mix wrong and you’ve pissed off half your audience. They seem to manage it though.

Justin, There's something I always wanted to ask you. Basically, I remember seeing you at Guilfest in July 2003 before you went big. I was 13 at the time. I remember vividly a moment where I was on my friend's shoulders and at one point you and I made eye contact and I gave you the thumbs up. You then responded with a huge smile..... So a couple of months after, the music video for I believe in a thing called love came out and I remember always wondering if the thumbs-ups you do in the video had anything to do with that interaction!??? I always like to think it was as I also was very excited to see you guys on all the music channels and making it big at the time.

I started with BMTH on their debut album(the deathcore days) and had ups and downs with them over the years (mainly me being a moody teenager that didn't like change) before growing up and getting over myself. They're a really important metal band and do a lot to bridge the gap between metal/rock and mainstream radio. They've been ahead of their time with so many albums. If you ever fancy checking out something metalcore from them, try the Sempiternal album (might not be your bag, really interesting how they've changed though)

I think a band that is able to pull off multiple genres will almost always be more impressive than a band that never changes. If BMTH was only sempiternal or only thats the spirit, i dont think i wouldve been a very big fan. I love songs from all their albums almost, amo and the schizzo name one are not my favorites with the latter not having a single good song but i still respect the attempts and variety. I really dislike when people say that BMTH isnt metal, even if you wouldnt classify them as hardcore metal or whatever, they would still fall under the genre metal, its a definition not a feeling. I think bands that make the music they want to will always be infinitely better than bands that dont and its not like BMTH has abandoned their fan base, Theyve changed but a good amount of their music is still what you would expect from them as a long time fan. I love the mixes of genres, i dont hear it as a weird clash, i hear it as them using a new tool they discovered to better transition between for example a verse and a chorus. If you listen to music for the sound of it and try to drop the elitism, a lot of experimental music starts to make sense, you dont need to like it for that reason but you can still appreciate it.

i think BMTH are one of the best bands around today. They’re so unpredictable so you never know what their next music will sound like. For example in 2019 they released amo which was a pop rock album however then in 2020 they released the Post Human:Survival Horror ep which was a full on metalcore, linkin park esque project and it was amazing. Now they’ve released Die4u which is a hyperpop/screamo song. I’m not a fan of it but its definitely something new for the band and i can guarantee they won’t stick to this sound

Yeah, this track is a rough one if anyone’s gonna try and form a more “whole” opinion about the band, for sure. Is it a pop song? Yeah, absolutely. Are they a pop band? Nah, not at all. Appreciate Justin’s analysis but this band has done enough over the years where pinning a label on them isn’t productive at all. They’ve had their “poppier” albums but like you said, they’ve also been putting out music recently that is very close to their earlier output which is absolutely metal, except that they’re applying certain pop sensibilities to it. They’re metal, they’re pop, they’re whatever they want to be at this point.

Totally fair and respectful critique of this song. As a massive BMTH fan 28(M), I also share the same views of this song. However, this isn't representive of their overall sound. I think people in the comments are using this song to make an overall judgement of this band having not heard anything else. Justin, however, does acknowledge in his comments that they probably don't sound like this normally. Before throwing shade on the band (throwing shade on the song is fair), please listen to a few tracks from Post Human Survival Horror, Sempiternal and Thats the Spirit. Then make a fair judgement. Cheers. (Ps this is mainly aimed at people in the comments).

If so, do you feel that you're getting an accurate picture of the way the song was meant to sound? Again, no judgment or condemnation or whatever but your songs sound very different coming out of a phone speaker compared to even a middling pair of headphones. When I finally got a decent set of headphones, I listened to songs that in the past I was lukewarm about and I had many moments where I said to myself, "Ohhh... oh *now* I get it. I see what's really going on here." Cheers sir!

I'm a relic from the mid-to-late 2000s -core scene. BMTH started out as a pretty generic metalcore band. They were pretty neat for the time, but in a sea of bands that played exactly like them, it never stood out too much to me. Saw them live back in the early days (08/09). Heavy live show. Super high energy, a lot of fun to watch. Can't knock 'em for having that going for them. I never figured a silly little flippy hair metalcore band would eventually be one of the biggest radio rock/metal acts. Props to them for it though. Everyone wants to make money making music, but nobody wants to make the music that makes the money. Their new stuff is a bit weak, but not terrible imo. Yes they are pop melodies much less than now, and they're is plenty of screaming, far more screaming than they're newer music.
