Mosquitoes 😩, but in warm places they have so many natural enemies that they are barely an annoyance, except when they transmit malaria.

I remember one holiday i went to a warm climate (greece, the island of Rhodes) and after a few days i started hoping for rain. The constant cloudless sky and heat and the (to me) extremely loud cikadas (or whatever creatures made that noise) made it pretty clear to me that i like colder climates. (i felt like being in an hot air oven the whole time) My Pollen allergies strech from spring to summer. But there is one thing i have to give warm climates: in southern climates next to the sea the air helps allergic people. Summer even in my climate means bugs moskitos, (even the cicadas are slowly wandering north it seems due to climate change) and rash on my inner elbows from sweating. I am always looking forward to autumn and winter. @Shawn Thomas: walking keeps you warm in cold weather. (body movement in general), snow isolates, look at igloos (in military training we dug a snow hole almost like an igloo into a snow slope and slept in there. -30°C and wind outside, 0°C and no wind inside. (when i say no wind i mean the weather phenomenon, as we were 12 guys there were other "winds" ;-) ) Falling on a sharp object? As people tend to wear more layers or thicker clothing, they hurt themselves less when falling on somehthing as the clothing has more cushening effect. When people are at home, at least where i live, there is less burglary. Burglars don't want to "meet" the occupants. Makes their hobby more complicated. (Since last years lockdowns that sort of crime almost went away here.)

I've seen the "I'm an introvert and I don't want to go out so I like winter" argument before but it confuses me a bit. I'm an introvert but I dread winter because I get really bad seasonal affective disorder and it's just too long. To me it has nothing to do with going out or staying in, I can still stay in in summer. Maybe it's a cultural thing?

I went to Morocco for a month and just remember crying as the sun came up, you can't escape the heat I felt so desperate. Love the rain and happily go for long walks.

You most certainly do not HAVE TO mow or shovel. Hire a service to do both. For $30 per lawn cut or snow removal, I get to watch somebody else do it from the comfort of my air conditioned and/or heated living room. It's well worth the cost. I do agree with the bug thing though. Winter does kind of a "reset" on the bug population, and the critters around here in Michigan don't grow to the size or lethality like those in warmer climates.

You may not actually have to mow that much. I was doing it every 2-3 weeks last year. Nobody died, and all of the local kittens were also fine. Snow is trickier, but I'm tempted to only shovel enough next year for the mailman to have a walking path to my mailbox. Once I get rid of my car I won't really need that whole driveway clear 100% of the time (or ever). But it's probably better to do more shoveling because that's premium winter cardio.

Yeah the extra darkness is definitely one of my least favorite aspects of winter. It's slightly fun in December when lots of people have Christmas lights up. But after that it's just sad and depressing.

There are some places that you can have a snowy winter without a significant decrease in daylight. Those places just have to be in the mountains.

I like Summer untill its hits 80° and up. Then I just hide in my AC and look forward to Fall. Winter is my favorite time of year Summer is my least favorite.

I have to say (and I know people would roll their eyes at this) that after a while, the weather in LA can get kinda boring. Truly!

In Maine there are plenty of introverts who just need to hibernate for a while after the summer tourist season, visiting oceans and trails and summering here. Winter cold and snow helps with introversion and hibernating and rest.

i’m from kuwait, where every summer an average day is 40-50s and it never goes under 30° for 8 months a year and the remaining 4 months we get a 4-24° with with less than 5 days of rain and barely any moisture for the other days. so we get a heat that makes your hair untouchabbly hot, and a dry cold. but even with that i prefer the cold days. (my cold days are your summers and your hot days are my winters)

Where I live in is 80% humidity all year long and the only release you get from the heat is the "winter" where it just rains all the time

You see. I'm from Toronto. I love summer, but summers in Toronto are so. damn. HUMID!!! Whereas when I went to LA in May, I loved it cause it was a dry heat. and the night was actually cool. It was nice. I still love winter though.

The only weather I don't dislike is 55-65 degrees with no precipitation, and I doubt there's a place on Earth that's like that all year round. I'm aware there are places called deserts with little precipitation. I understand the necessity of precipitation, but when I say no precipitation I mean that, while I wouldn't want to live in a world under the effects of lack of precipitation, I don't like to be outside while there's precipitation. Just clearing that up.

Seasonal depression is often caused by lack of vitamin D, or just a failure to see the positives of the season. You can supplement vitamin D. I will say working 9-5 in winter is depressing though.

At the same time, summer is double as great. I was very disappointed in the Caribbean when the sun sets at 6pm instead of 22:30.

@@africanbella28 I think it's mostly related to whether you have good friends and family. Winter can be cold and lonely when alone, but cozy and fun if you're with loved ones.

I also a Minnesota native (Doubly so since I'm Ojibwe), and I love winter. the only issue i really have with it is shoveling and how dangerous the roads get, but since i don't actually drive both of those are fairly muted. No, the true thing Minnesota people all know is that it's when the seasons change is the worst. like Indian summers where nature can't make up it's damned mind whether it's summer or fall, or at the end of winter where it'll seem like it's warm, some days even being hot, but then you get a foot of snow out of nowhere.

@@JonesP77 Winter comes later, is shorter, warmer and there's less snow. The further south you go the more pathetic the winter gets. Places that used to have proper snow fall now only get a bit of snow that turns into mush immediately. Instead of winter wonderland and a couple of months of ice slushie hell you might now get only the latter part which leads to "There's no real winter anymore" complaints. Source: am from a Nordic country.

@@miipmiipmiip Exactly this yeah, the several last winters in Helsinki have been miserable, wet and dark, with little to no snow! Luckily this year the winter has been great most of the time, everything feels more bright and clean.

I know very few people who do winter sports/activities. Most of us live where we do because that's where we were born and grew up. It seems more accurate to say that *some* people live where they do for winter sports, and they probably grew up with winter and got into winter sports because of the season instead of visiting somewhere with winter and trying skiing, snowboarding, etc. and then deciding to move to that place just to do their chosen winter activity.

Fellow Kansan. It was 80F yesterday but today it's in the 40sF. So I would say "distinct transitions" between seasons is a bit of a stretch.

Yes!! I lived in the SF Bay Area and paid 1,300 a month for a very tiny studio with no real kitchen and no heat. It also didn’t have a parking spot. So I spent $200 a month on my BART tickets and TONS of time on public transit. To get to work was an hour one way and that was considered a good commute. If I did decide to get a car, I would have had to pay hundreds a month just to park near my studio. So I was rent poor and time poor. And because public transit doesn’t really go to the beautiful nature places, I couldn’t really enjoy all the stunning scenery. Now I live in the Midwest with a real kitchen that also has a dishwasher, it’s larger and affordable. My commute is 15 minutes. I have so much more free time, I can afford a car and thus can get out in nature more. Long story short, every place has it’s downsides and I would rather that be winter than terrible cost of living.

Introverted Minnesota resident that started working from home full time last March. I've loved every minute of quarantine, no obligation to drive in that crap. I am excited for Spring but it'd be nice to skip over mud season.

Counterpoints, I don't have to shovel or scrape heat from my vehicle or driveway nor experiencing maneuverability issues due to poor traction cause by road conditions nor do I need to worry about losing limbs or digits due to my body overheating. Heat is uncomfortable, cold is deadly.

Air Conditioning exist, and tends to be in every building. Ya know, the place where you spend the majority of your time. Then there's pools, icy drinks and desserts, etc. All things you can't do in Winter.

And even in the tropics you have humid/rainy (like REALLY rainy) and dry season. It's not temperature but it still matters.
