Same, FR/LG had a ton of new features, content, and love put into the games, OR/AS was easy but also felt like a ton of work was put to make it definitive (although because of mega evolution and no Battle Frontier those who want a hardcore experience would prefer that. The Battle Frontier in Emerald is easily the most difficult and interesting post-game to date, even the later Pl/HGSS one isn't as good because it feels like a watered down version.) Every other remake feels like they really saw what made the games great and made it better, this feels like they were given a list of changes to make to freshen things up and then all the things that make the games easier and threw that in without thinking of longtime fans. People hate on Let's go and SwSh but those games feel like better games to me as well than these. (In fact I quite enjoyed them other than that both of them were way too easy to overlevel so I had to _skip content to keep a challenge_ )

I have to disagree because they were so disappointing compared to what we previously got and because they did so many things wrong and because it has so many intentional flaws as a remake; it objectively makes them bad games. DP were bad and flawed games aswell but they were mostly held back by the fact that the developers weren’t familiar with the Ds hardware when they developed DP so I give them a pass. Bdsp is a game made in 2021 and it’s so damn flawed that it’s easily the worst game in the series right next to sword and shield. The more intentional game design flaws that a game has the worse it is and the more likely it would be considered to be a bad game.

@@LinkMountaineer Your one of the lucky ones. Movement is awful compared to most if not every mainline game. Getting snagged on edges, unwilling jumping on ledges, and inconsistent input lag really hurts. It wouldn't be noticable if you haven't played a lot of the games. That doesn't even cover the missing content, poorly balanced post game, the poor level balancing pre-endgame, horrible system to get additional legendaries, or TM's, glitches, etc.

@@bvc5320 I’ve played pretty much every Pokémon game and I can still tell you that I had worse trouble getting around in X and there is no input lag. The only content truly missing from BDSP is the Battle Frontier. Since this is a remake of Diamond/Pearl, not Platinum, it’s going to have the story of Diamond/Pearl. So, you can’t call the exclusive elements of Platinum’s story missing content. It’s balanced just fine if you don’t just use your starter for everything. I didn’t mind the Mysterious Shard mechanic either. You can get extra TMs, so them being single use again doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme. I also had no trouble with any glitches.

Can agree, but a reason I understand it being mentioned is him not knowing about it at all. He had zero perspective. (same with the fairy-type add) And we may think it being there doesn't add much to the big picture, but also, it not being there may have taken a lot away from it too, and you'd think 'it's even worse'. Plus there's that easy choice they'd have to not've included it even though everyone & their mum expects it in a good way.. So it is "good" either you'd always know or just now know, therefore simply stating it's good as it is wouldn't cause too much harm right, I think? 🤔 Sorry for rambling lol

The whole history of remakes is interesting. Frlg and HGSS pretty much had everything from the original games while also having additional content, making them definitive. Oras did not include any content from Emerald which caused many fans to be upset for missing features in that game like no battle frontier. This means both Emerald and oras are still great hoenn games that are really different experiences with the "better" one being a preference. This creates some similarity between oras and bdsp when it comes to hard-core fan reception. However oras at the very least still had a bunch of new stuff to enjoy despite it missing features. New character designs, a much more fleshed out and better version of the original story, new mega evolutions, optional exp. Share, and more with all previous quality of life features. BDSP meanwhile has basically no new content for longtime fans to dig into that differentiates itself from diamond and pearl. The only truly new things were the way they changed underground and some of the postgame legendary encounters. The quality of life features aren't "new" to long time players so they aren't really selling points, they're expectations. If you're a hard-core fan, you still likely replay the old games so the appeal of the remake is the new content and changes, not quality of life features that have existed for years. When the remake has nothing new (from a long time fan pov) and actively takes away features from the game you love, why even play it? The music? Idk, this is coming from someone who has finished every mainline pokemon game multiple times (legends only once) but have not played past the 3rd badge of bdsp. I just kept thinking while I was playing "I wish I was playing platinum" everytime I noticed things missing. I love to bring up the poketch button thing because that tiny problem pretty much sums up my frustration with the game.

The thing is BDSP doesn’t bring anything to the table. In fact it goes to the table and takes things away. Every remake takes what’s been established in that generation and builds on it. Sword and shield introduced a lot to get people into competitive and bdsp takes them away. Gen4 is praised for being one of the best meta games in Pokémon games but bdsp drops that to waste side. Every game since the 3d era had an info screen in battle that shows statuses of Pokémon, hazards, weather turns remaining, etc. BDSP takes it away. Even Let’s Go has it like really!? Every game since gen 5 has had unlimited use TMs. BDSP takes that away. I can’t even imagine why? Sword and shield introduced nature mints and exp candy to help you with training Pokémon. BDSP keeps nature mints but ditches exp candy. Ok ever game since XY has made it easier to grind to level 100 so what does BDSP do? VS seeker the same chansey trainer over and over. Excuse me!? Faithful remake but you include nature mints and not candy…..ok. What about ditto. The games have made it easier to get 4-5iv dittos from XY’s friend safari to SWSH’s raid dens that are easy to summon just drop a wishing piece. BDSP? Better chain 100 ditto together and hope that it’s at least 4ivs oh your chain broke too bad start from the beginning. Ok I want to get some competitive items for my team well in SWSH I could grind the battle tower with one of five rental teams and not only do decently but learn one of five play styles. BDSP? Nope better use that in game team and lose until you have 50 bp. Everyone says that the best part is the E4 and champion. But guess what if I’m a new player I just spent 8 hours battling dudes with level 30 wurples just to be thrown into an E4 where the trainer has perfect IV Pokémon that are ev trained and have items. When does the game teach you any of this? It doesn’t it literally doesn’t teach you about items, abilities, evs, etc. (who is this made for?) Remember when SWSH brought back old legendaries and changed up the formula where you can play with friends and shiny hunt at the same time while using rental Pokémon to at least provide some strategy. BDSP? Hey go underground and look for these rocks for 20 hours and then throw 30 ultra balls at mewtwo….fun. Shiny hunting? How about we make the shiny charm only effect eggs? Excuse me? Honestly why? BDSP literally brings nothing but the strongest champion in the history of the series. But if only 1% of your game is good……

You know what's really embarrassing? The game actually has the exact same glitches and oversights that the original DS version had back in 2006, which is incredibly unprofessional for a game released in 2021. In addition, at launch, the game also introduced a bunch of new glitches, which forced some players to DELETE THEIR SAVE FILES. In other words, not only do old glitches return, but new ones are also present to mess things up, thus resulting in a game that feels like it was made back in Gen 1

I mean, those QoL improvements are to be expected with 14-15 years of difference between releases. People weren't expecting a faithful remake, and things like the improved surfing and battle speeds are pretty great, but they ARE expected for it to be a better version of DPPt. The REAL issue comes when instead of expanding on already built content like Secret Bases, Contests or Platinum's expansions, they chose to redesign or remove everything. They could have made the statues work on a different secret base room or make contests have a new phase, but they decided to change everything. Competitively speaking, the games are also a mess. Sure, you get amazing things like IV Judge, Mints, Bottle Caps or Charms, but they got rid of move tutors (except for already given moves like elemental Hyper Beams or Draco Meteor), and TMs are single-use again (you can purchase them back, but why wouldn't they simply make TRs or tutors when that worked perfectly for other games?). It's also pretty lame you don't even get regional forms or any mechanic like Megas or Dynamax; even if they didn't add any new form, there are already plenty. As you mentioned, every other remake tried to at least be like the new generation; there's no point on playing a "cleaner" version of the same game if they don't add new places to explore; new Pokemon; new mechanics (without messing already existing ones); expanded story; new redesigns... even Let's Go, the simplest remake, compensated every missing feature with updated mechanics, Mega Evolution, Alola Forms, rideable and better following Pokemon, making a new story (even if I don't love it) to make it fit on the current generation; Pokemon with proper sizes inside and outside battles, Meltan and Melmetal, a unique artstyle... things that BDSP didn't bother to do, and it makes it lack any personality other than being "the same game with some QoL".

I think a large part of the problem also comes from the fact that, based on the recent trend in Pokemon games, we can tell that not only was this game not sufficient in its own right... but it was a cheap cash grab, and the _reason_ why it was insufficient was just a lack of care. The Pokemon Co.'s mantra recently seems to be: "It'll sell anyway, so why try?" with a few exceptions for spin-offs. If this game wasn't the culmination of years of growing inadequacies, it wouldn't have been lambasted as it was.

As the consumer I think it's completely fair to look at BDSP for what it's not. BDSP was released in an unfinished state. There was a day one patch for the intro and postgame. Once the Switch’s servers shut down you can’t download it leaving it in an even worse state than DP. I’ve never understood this argument. You make the case of “you can’t update when the servers shut down”, but when do think the servers would shut down? Next week or in a decade minimum? The 3DS and Wii U eShops are set to shut down in March 2023. This is next year. This isn’t even online support for the Wii U or 3DS either. So, that’s probably got a good couple years left still. I remember I got my 3DS along with Ocarina of Time 3D in June 2011. This was over 11 years ago. In that time, the Switch is probably the third console since the 3DS. Logic would follow that the Switch servers will be online for a good long while. By the time the servers do shut down, we will be three console generations ahead. By then, new games will be out to the point that no one will even think to go back to hardware that outdated. People who would want the game will have in within the time frame to implement the patch. Thus, there is no issue.

I was going to comment that you should play Heartgold or Soulsilver to get a feel for what a Pokémon remake means to fans, seeing as how you said you played Silver, and presumably have some nostalgia for it. It will give you the exact idea of what us Platinum players were hoping to get from a Sinnoh remake. But then you started talking about it at the end and hit the nail on the head. BDSP just hurts, Platinum is my favourite Pokémon game, and it was my favourite game of all time until I was 21 (when I played Persona 5 and it became my favourite game of time), and is still my second favourite game of all time. BDSP hurts because of what it could’ve been. What we were expecting when the rumours were rumbling of a Sinnoh remake, what we were expecting on that day when it got revealed. Only to be hit with “faithful remake of Diamond and Pearl.” It hurts to know that the remake of the Sinnoh games didn’t surpass the originals…what was even the point? It hurts to know that, like you said in the video, we will probably never have a second chance, another shot at a Sinnoh remake that we actually asked for. We are stuck with BDSP forever, while the Hoenn kids get to love ORAS and the Johto kids were blessed with HGSS, we’re stuck with BDSP…a worse game than Platinum forever. Legends Arceus did soften the blow a little I guess, as fun as that game was though…Hisui just isn’t Sinnoh. I wanted to explore the lively atmospheres of Hearthome City and Jubilife city, climb the towering mount coronet, see what characters like Dawn, Barry, and Cynthia would be like in a brand new way. Arceus just did not give us that unfortunately…oh well I’m rambling now so I’ll end my comment here 😅

I think that what makes it so hard to judge the game for what it is rather than what it isn’t is, as was shown in the video, Gamefreak had created a standard when it came to their Pokémon remakes for every previous Gen in a way that not only improved on the originals but also carried the torch of that current Gen basically uniting the 2. From quality of life updates and new features to little fun things like updated character models they had formed a standard that had carried on for multiple generations. They then took that standard and threw it out the window in the name of being “faithful” to a fault. It also doesn’t help that we saw the One Piece game made by ILCA that shows that they could have made the DP game fans imagined or Pokémon Snap showing how beautiful a third party made game could be.

It would be interesting to see what you'd think of the Gen V games. They are a bit of a sweet spot in having some more quality of life features with out being overbearingly hand holdy like later titles. HMs still exist but are rarely required and TMs have infinite usage. There are numerous battle facilities which aren't too much of a content gap from the battle frontier. They include lots of past legendaries but in a more immersive way that suits each of them, rather than the generic dump of all of them seen in later generations (BDSP included). One thing you keep bringing up is how the modern EXP share saves switching out to another pokemon. I'm not sure if you're aware, but there is an EXP share up to gen V that works as a held item, so while it doesn't give the whole party EXP, it will help train one pokemon without ever sending them out to battle.

My biggest problem is that given that almost all of the good points you give to the remakes are just because it’s a newer game in the series, they would also apply to a Platinum remake. Almost none of it is unique to BDSP, and as a result it comes off like “Platinum improved on the story of its generation, added new characters, one of which has become a staple in the series since, but gen 6 added Fairy type, so BDSP gets a point for that.” It would be like if you praised Platinum for having a day/night cycle, even though that was introduced in gen 2.

I mean there are many reasons. Gen 4 is my favorite region and after seeing just how much the remakes did for the old games I was excited to see how they would do for Sinnoh. Unforunatly what we got was nothing like SSHG and ORAS (in the context of something new and improved) instead we got the DS game with chibis. I was hoping for something bigger... something that would do my favorite region justice. Honestly getting sinnoh in the style of SWSH would be 100% better than what we got IMO. At least it would be new and we could apperciate Sinnoh in 3D glory and have a chance to explore my childhood from a different perspective. Just watch that one video that shows what Gen 4 remakes could of been, and you'll 100% understand what I mean. I wanted to get lost in jublife city and see all the sights... I wanted to explore mount coronet and discover all it's secrets... And then there was the fans... Oh god some pokemon fans are gaslighting maniacs. Some people are truly saddned by how these games turned out and yet we were told to "shut up and take it" essentially. Like, I always say I'm happy for those who like it but I don't... The reason I'm even giving my opinion so say that people can understand a different outlook and maybe just maybe be more open to comprimises in the future. I know the Devs probably won't hear all the problems people are having but its nice to think that there is still a chance some will get through and we can get a game everyone can enjoy. But no... some people can't handle others opinions. So yeah.. in a way the fans soured my opinions on this game too. Anyways sorry for this little rant, I'm not even sure it made sense but I'm just glad to get some of my frustrations out. @@user-cr9zo5yo9k i think they recreate the original Diamond and Pearl wonderfully. I think the art style is quite charming and cute, and works for what these games are going for - they certainly weren't what I expected but I think they are nice, I love the quality of life improvements are great from newer gens including just general improvements to speed because Gen 4 is NOTORIOUSLY slow and BDSP are faster than even Platinum which itself did make some improvements, the awesome music remixes, the new contests, the grand underground also its nice not having to grind! My controversial opinion is I really like the exp share that we've had since Gen 6 - I think it was op in Gen 6 but Gen 7 and beyond balanced it a lot better so you don't get ridiculously overlevelled unless you go out of your way to do so. It seems to me that there’s just a differing mindset between groups of Pokémon fans. => There’s the people that will settle for anything. => There’s the people that won’t settle for less. Think of the quality of recent Pokémon games as life giving you lemons: => There’s the people who will take the lemons. => There’s the people who GET MAD. “When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!” - Cave Johnson As lifetime Pokémon fans, *why should we have to take these lemons?* Why should we have to be force-fed illogical nonsense like Dexit, “new animations,” and BDSP? Why? Why should *any of us* roll over and be treated this way? Lemons. *That’s* why we’re mad, man. We aren’t going to take these lemons, and we’re going to make sure that they *HEAR US.* If all we do is roll over and take it, we’re just going to be abused forever. I can genuinely see the future where people un-dexit the games and just go "Yeah, Pokemon that have visited these modded games are no longer legal for official content, but who cares?" Like, one does not even have to add the Gen 5+-Pokemon to BDSP, it would already be great for them to simply be in the game data so you can import them from somewhere else if you want to use them.

even without comparing it to platinum, its just majorly lacking in polish. theres some subtle things that bother me, like collision eating your momentum, or encounter rates being too high, and the transition animation into a wild battle switching between being too sudden that it looks like a glitch, and holding my character in place for nearly 2 whole seconds before shoving me into a battle. on top of that, the thought of not comparing it to other games in the series feels weird, and the only time i've heard people say that as a defense for games that weren't very good to begin with.

In spite of being a long time player, having played pokemon games for the last 16 years, I really enjoyed playing through BDSP. While I wish it borrowed more from platinum than diamond and Pearl, it resolved my biggest issue with gen 4, the terribly slow engine. I even enjoyed the glitches present in BDSP as they were mostly benign and even somewhat useful for completing the National dex much like the glitches in my first pokemon game: Pokemon Crystal.

This is something I dont see brought up often in this discussion, but something that really shied me away even more from the game was the decision to return the overworld layout to that of Diamond and Pearl. Let aside the story, Platinum did several alterations to the way certain areas looked. The gyms, buildings like the Team Galatic HQ in Eterna City, the trees in the Resort area being changed to Palm trees, Stark Mountain having lava and ashes, along many others. These didnt affect the gameplay in any way other than the visuals. So it was unfortunate that by sticking to the original Diamond and Pearl, we werent able to get see the Region itself in its best shape.

You said it best, that ORAS became the ultimate gen 3 games (an impressive feat considering how good Emerald was). This was because of how modernised the game was but also THE DELTA EPSIODE! It was an excellent storyline that added a lot to the game and also let you catch an impossible to catch mythical from gen 3. Add that to updates like Fairy Type, Mega Evolutions and also just having the damn national Dex and you get a great remake. Not an upscale. It's very reasonable for fans to expect a remake instead of a remaster. Especially when they have to pay 50 quid for it.

On updates - honestly, if it had just been bugfixes I wouldn’t have minded as much - X and Y had an emergency patch for a save deletion bug, as an example. But Ramanas Park only being in the day 1 patch feels bad to me for players who pick up the game without internet access in a way that Sword & Shield’s DLC or Arceus’s Daybreak patch don’t - the base game is functionally complete in those cases, and they don’t have NPCs trying to tell you about locations that do not exist without a patch. But yeah, was in the camp of hoping for something that would do what ORAS did, even with the slight disappointments of them not including the Emerald Battle Frontier.

I think, to put it bluntly, when looking at what GameFreak has produced when it comes to revisiting regions that haven’t been reintroduced before, people wanted much more than what BDSP gave them. BDSP only managed to give players a top-down, redrawn experience from the arguably inferior version of the games, but other revisits like ORAS and HG/SS had much more content and renewed interest in the region’s features. Admittedly, we probably only got what we got because of Legends: Arceus, but I still think people were hoping for a more fleshed out experience: we got crazy camera angles in the Sun and Moon era that made the series more cinematic, we got more fleshed out cutscenes starting in the BW era, but none of these additions are prevalent in revisiting Sinnoh. Sounds like a wholly missed opportunity.

What I think you may be missing is that it's well established that BDSP contains much of the same code as the original Diamond and Pearl. Old glitches are able to be done in the exact same way through the exact same means. Much of the game was ported rather than remade, which gives the game an overall sense of cheapness compared to FRLG and HGSS. Additionally, I think it's incorrect to say that the Pokemon Company was rushing this game's development due to Legends Arceus when this was a remake that was outsourced to a separate development studio. GameFreak were not the ones who worked on BDSP, at least not as the primary development team. So you had an inexperienced development team that ported over an older game without doing much to update it to the standards of the much beloved Platinum and I think it becomes clear why so many didn't like the end result.

BDSP corrected many things that made the Sinnoh of old difficult to traverse, making for an overall smoother gameplay experience for casuals. But here’s the thing: Platinum did the same exact thing back in the day. Faster speed, more variety in the Pokédex before post game, a more fleshed-out story, more balanced teams for enemy trainers. Sure, HMs are a pain, but it was a small price to pay, and many people considered Platinum to be the definitive way to experience Gen 4 for the longest time. The point is, BDSP already had a solid foundation to go off of for a Gen 4 remake, but instead the developers decided to double back on the changes made in Platinum in favor of making adjustments to the base D&P games. Wasted potential doesn’t even begin to describe this situation. You can argue that it’s more faithful that way, but in reality it feels that for every step they take forward in one area, they take two steps back somewhere else. The devs already imported the Platinum teams for gym leaders and Elite Four members for their rematches; what was stopping them from including them from the start? Personally, I would rather be blindsided by Pokémon I had never seen before if it means Flint could be a proper Fire type specialist instead of having…whatever his team is in the base game. I can understand Drifbloom because hot air balloons and Steelix because it’s metal like Flint’s name, but Lopunny? Really? Is it because they both have fluffy hair?

It's because Lopunny is supposed to be "hot". Which is...certainly a weird joke to put in a kid's game, not going to lie. They were really desperate with how they screwed up the amount of fire Pokemon in the region.

Honestly, as someone who has Platinum in their Top 5 Pokemon games, I quite enjoyed BDSP. don't get me wrong, they are disappointing, and hell I probably would even call them bad games, but I just really enjoy Sinnoh as a region, and it is nice to traverse it without having to deal with so much hassle like HM's. I also just enjoy 3D Pokemon games and like seeing those trainers back again as 3D models now, they're expressive and fun. It's just frustrating to me because it was so close to being great. It just needed a few tweaks, a bit more time in the oven. If you could turn off Affection and toggle the EXP share, that would be great and let players experience the true challenge that is the E4/Champion and post game fights. If Following Pokemon worked better people would be a lot happier, but as it is right now it's more of an annoyance than anything. If the Underground properly let you get all the Platinum mons that would help too, there are some just absent for no reason (Tangela, Yanma) or don't have their evolution items like Gligar, Dusclops and Rhydon. If we just had a few more Platinum features it would be great. Bring back Looker, bring back the battle frontier (or at least the frontier brains), give us that little extra story Platinum added to flesh out the characters. The game really didn't need much to be great, so it really hurts seeing them miss the mark. I can enjoy it for what it is, but I'll always have in the back of my mind what it wasn't when I'm playing it.

The force exp share and happiness friendship mechanic was going to be in the remake regardless if it included Platinum content simply because these were the quality of life improvements introduced in gen 8 and every remake includes the new quality life improvements introduce in the gen they release for better or for worse. The reason there is no battle frontier, vila, and platinum story element in BDSP is that the co-director assigned to the BDSP by Gamefreak was Junichi Masuda the original creator of DP. His image of Sinnoh and game design are different from Pokemon Pt director Takeshi Kawachimaru's. Take the concept of the battle frontier. It was originally created in Pokemon Emerald. The director for Emerald was Shigeki Morimoto (Also the director of HGSS ). Before Shigeki Morimoto was the head director of Emerald he was the battle director of Pokemon RS and FRLG. So when he directed Pokemon Emerald he wanted to add more to the game for battling which lead him to create the Battle Frontier. Fast forward to ORAS the battle frontier was not included. When asked in an interview why the Battle Frontier was not included Junichi Masuda basically said it wasn’t needed due to the existence of mobile games. While ORAS is directed by Shigeru Ohmori it should be noted he takes Junichi Masuda's approach to pokemon game design. It is the reason why we haven’t gotten a battle frontier in any new pokemon game. Shigeru Ohmori agrees with Junichi Masuda that modern pokemon games don’t need a battle frontier. I believe Gamefreak stated that from gen 8 and onward different games will have moves cut from them similar to pokemon. So some games will cut old moves that were in a previous game whereas others won’t. The addition of Fairy type in BDSP should not surprise anyone. They included the Steel and Dark Type in FRLG despite the fact they did not exist in gen 1. They included the Fairy type in ORAS despite it not existing in gen 3. And then Let’s go included Steel, Dark, and Fairy despite Yellow not having the typing. Anyone mad this game included Fairy type just doesn’t like the Fairy type in general. One last thing that should be noted is that recently at CEDEC Gamefreak explain how they had to change the development of games to cloud base storage (Amazon cloud systems) instead of local storage which allowed them to develop Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet at the same time. They also explain that it allowed them to make different art styles for their models and they intend to keep doing this for future games. They also revealed that Legends begin development in 2018 and SV begin development at the end of SWSH. This is my own opinion but it seems like BDSP might have suffered due to covid. I think Gamefreak intended to begin development on BDSP in 2020 with the cloud storage system because they figure they would be done with Legends. However, covid changed how fast they were progressing with the development of Legends thus resorting them to outsourcing the games to ILCA.

You still never explained why they had to cut so many items that were important to the competitive scene. Megastones aside. Where’s eviolite, assault vest, blunder policy, heavy boots, and many many more. Even remakes in the past included every new item that was added in generations before. Also why are tms not permanent?
@PhobicGamingNerd
@PhobicGamingNerd Жыл бұрын
@@SoggySlopster The two reasons I can come up with for why BDSP did not include new competitive items are that; Junichi Masuda was the co-director, and Sword and Shield did not have an official Worlds tournament until this year. As implied before Junichi Masuda's game design for Pokemon focuses on the casual aspects of pokemon games. In terms of competitive aspects of Pokemon game design, Junichi Masuda tends to stay clear from it. He probably felt that adding those new items, did not benefit the casual demographic from a gameplay design so decided not to implement them into the game. The only reason I can see why he implemented mints, ability patches/capsules, was to allow the casual demographic to change their play-through team to beneficial natures and abilities (if they did not already have one) to make the battle tower easier for them. For the second reason, you must remember due to covid the Pokemon company had to cancel Sword and Sheild worlds for 2020 and 2021. From a business perspective when you include the fact that gen 9 is releasing in 2022 and your mainline games for gen 8 still haven’t had a world event and the best shot for one is 2022, a company is less likely to care about adding in more competitive depth to a game that will not have any room to fit in their current roadmap they have laid out for their business. It should also be noted as of Gen 8 Gamefreak has decided that not every Pokemon and move will be available in upcoming games therefore games will not be able to interact through battles and trade with each other since they will not have the same movepools, and Pokemon available to them. In the remakes before BDSP, this was not the case and the remakes had to make sure they were able to interact with the new items and moves added from the generation they were remade in. After all, they had to be able to trade and battle with the main line game of that generation they were remade in. This is not the case for BDSP since it can not trade or battle with Sword and Sheild so they don’t have any incentive to make the items or moves playable in the game. The reason why TM's are not permanent is a combination of two things. The first one is in Sword and Sheild they introduce TR’s. These are items that acted like how TM's did from gen 1 to 4 and BDSP. They were made as a way to incentivize people to do the Max Raid Battles in Sword and Sheild. The second one is for BDSP they wanted to add more to incentivize people to use the mining feature of the grand underground. They figure that since the original D/P TM's basically acted like TR’s they could do a similar concept for the Grand Underground as Sword and Sheild did with incentivizing players to do Max Raid Battles. So they made it where in BDSP you can dig for spheres and trade them for TM's.

As a person who started playing Pokemon with Diamond and Pearl, Platinum was such an amazing upgrade from those games. Especially realizing later in life how extensive those additions were and is a great reason for why Platinum is still my favourite mainline Pokemon game to date. And the way you explained it being "Platinum players are focused on what it's not" is exactly how I felt. My girlfriend and I played BDSP alongside one another when they came out, this was her first time playing a Sinnoh game and I was excited to have her experience it. But knowing that what she got was the underbaked remake of an original version of the game with none of the updated content and additions Platinum brought to the table, it just makes me sad. I don't blame ILCA or Game Freak for this as I understand the crunch these games are constantly under is crazy and especially with ILCA never technically working on a game before BDSP which wouldn't have helped I'm sure. I try to look at the bright side of this, being able to easily shiny hunt the first 4 generations of Pokemon is great, especially with SwSh cutting out a lot of Pokemon that are in BDSP, and knowing what the modding scene has already done with these games makes me excited for a true Platinum remake experience. I hope Game Freak learns from these games, because I'm sure a lot of people share this sentiment with me. If this is how they'll be approaching remakes in the future, then I hope they don't make them anymore. But I'm sure they will, BDSP's selling numbers were beyond favourable. I hope with the eventual Black and White remakes, they look back to FRLG, HGSS and ORAS and realise what made them great. Otherwise, it'll be repeated disappointment for us fans.

I’ll be honest, before BDSP were announced, I was hoping that they didn’t make the Sinnoh remakes with SwSh graphics or introduce Dynamax and Gigantamax I was hoping they would go the direction of Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver where they would follow Platinum’s story and bring back the Battle Frontier since with how easy it is to get a competitive Pokémon then it was in gen 3 and 4 with bottle caps and other stuff like that, I thought this might be a great for me to play the BF in Platinum since I could never raise a competitive team in gens 3 and 4, so I thought why not remake the BF with all the QOF improvements of the modern games and put it in the Sinnoh remake and that’s basically what I wanted out of a Sinnoh remake, well other then adding all the Pokémon into the game but I never expected that after SwSh What I expected was a remake along the lines of ORAS where the games would follow the same beats as the originals, but tweak the story a bit to allude to a Platinum post game episode like ORAS had or give Dialga and Palkia new forms like Groudon and Kyogre had in ORAS But after seeing the first trailer, I was taken aback by the chibi models and then thought that looks aren’t everything as long as the game was good, and I was somewhat optimistic until a week or two before release when leaks of the game came out and I followed the leaks since well, since there's nothing to spoil someone who's already played the originals, anyway I was really hoping it wasn’t the same as DP, I thought they wouldn’t leave out the Battle Frontier from BDSP considering it was one of the criticisms fans had with ORAS and that GF* had learned it’s lesson from that game, and considering this is the last time to include it in a remake for another 10 or 20 years, but my hope was shattered when I saw a leaker reach the post game and it was only the battle park/just the battle tower, but I still got the game and while first hour was nostalgic, but when I learned it was pretty much the same as DP but with some QOL improvements, I was pretty much apathetic to the game *I know Game Freak didn’t make the game, but Masuda was co-directing it Yeah so that’s pretty much what my wants, expectations and experience with BDSP was like and while it’s not as bad as some may claim, it’s just wasted potential and I’m still salty over it, I don’t think it will ever leave my mouth considering this the one time they could of done something rather then basically make a carbon copy of the original DP Sorry for my wall of text, but I just wanted to express how I felt about BDSP

I agree! It was shocking to waste the Sinnoh remake slot on simple (and rushed?) remasters. I think we were spoiled with ORAS, who got the full force of GF’s creative energies, but I try to remind myself that, in the time-crunch of ORAS and SM, “Pokémon Z” got scrapped hard in order to help Sun and Moon make its release date. There are so many unresolved storylines from XY that those games are deeply odd and unsatisfying. I am still mad that AZ’s Floette was programmed into the game and never appeared to either fight or catch! Just like in generation 6, it looks to me like GF overbooked their development schedule again: Sword and Shield, two sets of DLC, an experimental game (PLA), and BDSP. When I see that list, it seems obvious to me why they outsourced and under-thought BDSP. They other projects were probably more interesting than trying to think of how to add Wild Areas to the tightly crafted, recursive routes of Sinnoh. What makes me actually sad about BDSP is that we will never get an ORAS-style remake of DPP “because we got BDSP.” It also makes me hopeful that we DON’T get remakes of BW. If they don’t want to reimagine Unova like in ORAS (or even Let’s Go), or give us a Legends-style game about splitting the ancient dragon, then I can just boot up my 3DS and “remake” Unova myself.

For someone who hasn't fully played through a game since gen 2, obviously the differences between then and now would be a big deal for someone coming back. 😂So I can see where you're coming from on that, and if you enjoyed them, that's great. For people who have been following Pokemon for a while, though, BDSP just felt like a step backwards. When ORAS came out it was a major overhaul to the Hoenn region, and brought in all the updates from the current generation at the time. The story was tweaked to feature Mega Evolution, the characters all got major updates to their designs/writing, graphics matched the current gen's best, etc. So, it's like you said, people were expecting BDSP to do the same and bring in all the updates from gen 8. We've had full-body models in the main series since 2016, but now we're going back to chibis? None of the character designs or dialogues have been expanded on? (Call me shallow but one of the things I was really looking forward to was seeing new outfit designs for old characters haha)nIt just felt like they did the bare minimum to shut up all the people who had been screaming for Sinnoh remakes since 2016 (and tbf, those guys were getting really annoying. But I still don't think this was the proper answer). Heck, I remember before they were released, people were wondering if QoL updates from gens 5-8 would even be included in the game (like Fairies and No HMs) because that's how much of a step backwards it felt like to us. And this isn't even mentioning the host of glitches and other technical issues. With every new release, I think it's natural for fans to expect that it will be better than the last game. So we wanted it to be a step forward from Sword and Shield, but it went backward instead. I'm glad we at least got Legend Arceus as the real step forward, but that just makes BDSP seem even more pointless by comparison. So, uh...yeah, I guess it really is just a lot of expectations, like you said. But even if we judge the game for what it is, it's essentially just DP again. Unlike ORAS, it's not a completely new experience that justifies its price tag. This story already exists exactly the exact same way in a previous game. These QoL improvements have already been happening in previous gens. I wouldn't recommend BDSP to anyone unless they've literally never touched a Sinnoh game before, or no longer have access to one, because I seriously can't justify spending $60 just to play DP again but with a slightly shinier coat of paint. 😂

For me, it’s because I wanted the same, but altered experience that the Hoenn and Kanto 3D games had. I wanted some kind of added lore, and twist to the og story, and for the game to go the Platinum route as far as story with Dialga and Palkia still being the main legendaries, but with a Platinum episode, and characters (like Barry) and some little things like how Platinum, the elite 4 had cool looking rooms. Instead, the remakes took out nearly all multiplayer features like making poffins, capture the flag, Wi-Fi Plaza and even the Battle Tower multiplayer mode, and didn’t really add anything new like letting you pet or play with your Pokémon. Imo, literally adding the Wi-Fi plaza, capture the flag, or the Villa or Battle Frontier from Pokémon platinum would of made the game more enjoyable, but the remake is just very lackluster, and I’m sure there are other things I forgot to mention that I have a problem with. I will say though that I don’t mind the graphics with the chibi, the gym and elite 4 rematches are great and challenging, customization for our character is always a great thing to have and the in game battle models are really nice for sure. Overall, I just think the remakes are meh. I really wish GameFreak themselves would’ve done the remake so we get get an altered story. I just feel like Sinnoh fans got the short end of the stick with all the wishlist hopes and things we wanted only to get done dirty. If anything, remaking Platinum without removing anything would’ve been a much better choice

Gen 4 was my favorite gen by far. BDSP is a giant stain on the gen and the franchise as a whole. They outsourced the remakes to some literal who random company that only makes mobile phone games. That company then makes literal direct ports but worse, with an absolutely terrible art style, no real changes to any aspect of the game other than the removal of some aspects and details, and absolutely no upgrades or positive changes at all that are the norm for Pokemon remakes. BDSP aren't a remake - they're a _de-make,_ a _downgrade,_ an _objectively worse experience_ than the original DPPt.

With how amazing the Sinnoh games where it wasn't crazy to see the huge jump in quality with older remakes that had become a standard and go think that something that we would be playing for decades would come out of one of the most beloved Pokémon games ever. For us it shouldn't have had to be an argument over which was better. BDSP was going to bring tears into our eyes as we saw Sinnoh brought back to life like never before. The idea of a "Faithful Remake" Truly dammed BDSP to a terrible fate instead of being critically acclaimed by old and new fans alike we got a game that's just "Good" Or arguably "Mediocre" and after so much waiting and praying it hurts me and probably many others to even look at BDSP. We can only and will ever see a huge example of what could have been. I hope many people are brought into the series by these games but for those who experienced the originals it's a sad tale of how we got possibly the best Pokémon game of all time ripped away from us and were left with only a husk of its nearly limitless potential. Hoped you liked my essay on the missed potential of BDSP and how it ruins it for so many.

@GameSmith45 I think it’s not very surprisingly that you enjoy the game but it’s funny at the same time for one reason. I heard from some people who picked up Pokémon after a long time that they liked the game. Most of them didn’t played Gen 5, 6, 7 or 8 and returned to Pokémon. And I can totally understand that they are impressed by the graphics, new items like mints, that you can use your pc everywhere or that you don’t need HMS anymore, which is definitely an improvement. Now here is why I think it’s funny: GF labeled it as „faithful“ hoping a lot of there loyal fans would buy it for nostalgia reasons (what we did lol) but most of those fans played Gen 5-8. We already know this features and I personally like Gen 6 for the Fairy type or that gen 7 get rid of HMS or that SwSh hat Mints but we all KNOW this stuff and liked different Games for it. If you watch it from that perspective BDSP has not really anything to offer for people who played the games since Gen 4. So in conclusion: it’s a great game for people who haven’t picked up Pokémon in a long time because it’s fun for them to see all the new features but it’s definitely not very enjoyable for fans who are familiar with those features because BDSP ads nothing positive or new to Gen 4 or to Pokémon in general.

I didn’t know that the inclusion of Fairy type Pokémon was a bug for some people! (It’s a feature for me!) Were they hoping for literal remakes, with only changes to the touchpad portions of the game?
@jokerofmorocco
@jokerofmorocco Жыл бұрын
The main problem with Fairy types isn't that it exists but the fact that it's broken and far worse than the Dragon types they were supposed to balance. They should've given it weaknesses to Ice and Bug, two types that needed a buff while they didn't need one of its weaknesses to be Steel which is another OP type.
@lpfan4491
@lpfan4491 10 ай бұрын
They genuinely should have just made Ice resist Dragon moves and otherwise buffed it to be a better counter. I like the fairy type, but in practice it feels like it was purely implemented to arbitrarily hit certain strong types they couldn't be bothered to rebalance.(And I guess also to give Steel some super effective-utility, even tho that was never the point of the steel type, it was to be a tank.)

I think, at the end of the day, what hurts the most about BDSP is that these games were even allowed to exist. The majority of the code for BDSP is literally DP’s original code ported over, the only real changes were graphics and a few tweaks here and there to get it technically up to standard with the newer titles. It hurts to know that the people handling these games thought that this was an acceptable practice without any respect for the original games, and it hurts to know that Game Freak looked at this and gave it the green light anyway. People can argue all they want over which is better, but I think we can all agree that it’s utterly despicable that these games were made and distributed to us in the shoddy, loveless way that they were.

I think the main issue lies with how recent remakes or remaster were handled 🤔 oras hgss and even frlg all had extra content that either was in the 3rd game of the base gen or just straight up new as for fire red and leaf green case. This is literally the first remake that didn't really do that

Its not even about Platinum standard. In fact we wanted an improved Platinum that has all QOL changes from 2021 games and the features of them or even completely new content/features. But we got a game that can barely compete against the 2008 version of Platinum. We wanted a game a modern 3D art style view of Sinnoh, with all Platinum content and all QOL changes of Sword/Shield and pokemon from gen 5-8 (and Megas) and ranked pvp or raids from Sword/Shield or even new features invented by Gamefreak. But we actually got 0 completely new features and none of the above mentioned changes(HGSS got pokeathlon for example).

13 reasons why BDSP are the WORST remakes of all time: 1. Faithfulness: Unlike other remakes, BDSP literally copy/pastes 90% of diamond/pearl(2006). You cannot copy almost everything from a 2006 game.. (Remember its a remake not a remaster!). Almost everything is copied: All dialogs, the storyline, the chibi art style, the national dex, old pokemon encounters and even the Poketch were copy & pasted to this game. Pokemon games have been improved in the past years and had many quality of life changes like 3D art style, overworld Pokemon encounters and reusable TMs. None of these changes were adapted to the game which is just sad. This game is too faithful and faithful sounds more like a excuse for lazyness. 2. Not-Platinum-Based: So they copy & pasted 90% from the old Sinnoh game but not based on Platinum? Diamond & Pearl had several weaknesses and Platinum fixed many of them and included many Quality of Life changes. Here are some Platinum improvements over Diamond/Pearl: It extends the storyline with additional content, new dialogs, new characters like Charon and a new map Distortion world (loved it). The rival was a bit too weak in Diamond/Pearl which was fixed in Plat. The Poketch has a reverse Button. It has the battle frontier. And finally: the Sinnoh dex which was baaad in Dia/Pearl was fixed. The bad sinnoh dex in dia/pearl has only very few Fire Pokemon (very weird). Gym leaders were forced to use weird mons in the main game like Electric gym leader using Octillery or IceType gym leader using Medicham (WTF? Despite Sinnoh having enough Ice/Electric mons) and also many sinnoh mons were restricted to the postgame. Thats means many of the favourite sinnoh mons cannot be used in your team for the main story. But Platinum fixed this issue and created a NEW sinnoh dex which fixed all these issues which made the main story like a sinnoh game. ALL of these great changes of Platinum where NOT included in BDSP. This means BDSP uses the OLD sinnoh dex, OLD dialogs, OLD storyline, NO new character like Charon, NO distortion world and NO battle frontier. That makes BDSP a worse Sinnoh remake than Platinum which was released in 2008. (Imagine a 2008 DS game of the same Region beats you in ALL aspects. WTF) 3. EXP-Share & Friendship-System: One of the most hated features is the EXP-Share system which often leads to WAY more exp than in the past games. In my opinion, the EXP-Share is not too bad. BUT diamond/pearl were not designed to be played with the new EXP-Share system. So if you include an EXP-Share system, you have to increase all levels of the pokemon (from opponent). But they didnt which makes the difficulty of this game too easy.Basically, my whole team was too oveleveled. And the friendship-system is the worst luck-based system i ever saw. A feature that increases the Critical hit-chance,removes paralysis, lets me dodge 100% accurate moves and even lets me survive moves with 1HP. WTF did you smoke gamefreak? And the worst is that, you cannot make any of these optional. Because of that many players who love to do a nuzzlock in Sinnoh, prefer the old DS games. 4. No Innovation: This game not only copy & pastes the majority of its content, it adds nothing new to the game. Lets review some good remakes: HeartGold/SoulSilver (HG/SS) were Gen 2 remakes and included some storyline from Crystal and added many new stuff like the pokeathlon, battle frontier (from sinnoh), gen 1 map/storyline, a complete national dex and the pokewalker. HG/SS were not copy & pasted, but actually remade the game and added good new stuff. Also Alpha ruby&omega saphire (ORAS) have new changes like new art-style , new designs for Team magma/aqua, new Mega-forms, new Primal forms, changes to dialogs and storyline and the complete national dex. BDSP on the other hand does not provide any kind of major change in the game which makes this game really boring. It does have a new Underground which has overworld pokemon, but that is nothing special for 2022 and the ramanas park was neat but nothing too exciting. 5. Underground/Super-Contest: The old underground allowed to create your own living room with furnitures and set traps to troll friends online. Both were removed for a statue system which is really boring. Collecting statues and the effects of the statues are really disapointing. The Super-Contest used to be a fun-mode where you had many different options and varities and had to have good reflexes to do the correct moves at the correct time. Now all you have to do is Press A at the correct time and use 1 attack. That makes this mode so boring and disapointing. I mean, was it really that hard to let the player press like 4 different buttons instead of just 'A'?? 6. Art-Style: Many of us expected a modern review of Sinnoh in a 3D human like Art-style. But they decided to go for the Chibi-Art-Style. Everyone has different tastes but in my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style ruins many serious moments of the story line of this game, especially vs team galactic. It feels like all the emotions of the characters were removed. The reason why it was used in Diamond/Pearl was because of the limited hardware. In my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style waas the wrong decision and does not suit a switch game at all. 7. Only Gen 4: BDSP has a national dex which includes the pokemon from Gen 1-4 which is basically the same as Diamond/Pearl. As a player who would have loved to see at least some Pokemon from Gen 5-8 in Sinnoh, i am very disappointed. At least some Pokemon post Gen4, or some new forms or at least add Sylveon in this game. Not even mega-forms were included in this game. The fact that 95% of the megas are from Gen1-4 and the underground being the perfect place to grind the mega-stones, makes this decision even more disapointing. The reason why diamond/pearl was limited to Gen 1-4 was because there werent any other new pokemon. The reason why BDSP limited the game to Gen 1-4 is because of lazyness.. 8. PVP: On of the worst things in this game is everything arround PVP. The worst disrespect a main series pokemon game can get, is when GameFreak calls that all the competitive tournaments including the world championship will not take place in BDSP (WTF?). Unlike Sword/Shield, you have no option to search for PVP matches which makes it way harder to find battles. But the worst thing is the grind for a PvP team: TMs are not reusable (WHY?!). For some important TMs like Earthquake, you have to grind for 80BP (WTF. Thats a lot of Grind). Also you cannot catch pokemon with hidden abilities except those from poke radar. To get the hidden ability you have to grind for the ability patch for 200BP (WTF. Grind competitive to create a competitive. Nice system). By putting important PVP items behind such ridiculously high grind walls, it makes creating a PVP team disgusting. 9. Events: The events were also copy & pasted from Diamond/Pearl. Same Shaymin event, same Darkrai event. And other events are only accesible if you bought other main series pokemon game (Why..). And finally some garbage "events" which include some useless statues. Meanwhile, the 3 year old SW/SH getting better and innovative events like new PVP cups/tournaments and some legendary shinies. In my opinion the events in BDSP are disapointing. 10. Bugs/Glitches: Holy Moly! This game had so many bugs and glitches! You dont even need hacks, when the game itself has to many glitches. Many of them where completely broken. Many Pokemon clone glitches and item dupe glitches ruined the game. You could even get infinity money, create your own shinies (WTF), make your pokemon 6IV and let any Pokemon learn any move. I used to be in a discord for trading in BDSP and because of the glitches, the trade market was only about getting shiny 6IVs etc. Not to forget to mention the soft locks which made you restart the whole game which can happen for example in the ice gym. Usually every games has a few bugs. But this one had too many and too many game breaking glitches. A very hyped game like this shouldnt be developed by a 3rd party company.. But Gamefreak had other plans.. 11. Controls: The controls of this game feel weird and uncomfortable. Characters move in a grid which looks so weird during the storyline. The pokemon who follow me often block me in a bad way. The underground has many inivisible walls which makes moving in some rooms horrible. And finally the control with the cycle are the worst. The cycle in pokemon games are a beloved feature but in this game.. It feels so uncomfortable moving with the cycle, I sometimes even prefer walking. 12. Standards: A 2021 game should adapt the standards from the latest games (Sword 2019). The BDSP-standard isnt nearly as good as Sword/Shield. Many items, many attack moves, renewable TMs, dynamax, new pokemon, old moves without heart scales, more customization,max Raids or ranked battle stadium. None of the mentioned were adapted into this game -> BIG Downgrade for 2021 pokemon standards! 13. Price: Dia/pearl/Platinum: 40$ and Copy/Paste BDSP with Bugs:60$ -> Bruh.. Conclusion: It feels like GameFreak didnt want to do a Sinnoh remake but wanted to milk some money by releasing the highly demanded Sinnoh remake. The fact that, they hired a 3rd party company who never developed a major game, only supports this theory. Not forget to mention that, BDSP had a giant day one patch which was essential to enjoy the game. The fact that they released Legends Arceus almost 1-2 months after BDSP release also supports the theory, that they didnt care at all for this remake. Because of the release of Legends Arceus, the hiring of ILCA, the amount of glitches, the boring events, the exclusion of VGC, the 0 Innovation in this game and the fact that the majority of the game is copy & paste of a 2006 game (Dia/Pearl) which is worse than a 2008 Game (Platinum), makes this game the worst remake of all time in my opinion.

I'm not one to complain about perma EXP Share much because I don't have many issues with it but this was a remake of a game that wasn't made with perma exp in mind and topped with the forced affection boosts is what really killed it for me. bringing up your point about why people don't think your fairy type point for BDSP shouldve counted. as someone who agrees with them, I think the problem isn't about "hating" the fairy type. for me personally it's the fact that you gave BDSP a point for a specific few pokemon that were already in the old game because they had a type change. all it does is change a very small part of the game that if were being honest isn't really a plus or minus in this games case. togetic isn't resistant to ghost, but now dragon. i think it would be a lot easier to see why we dislike bdsp if u played the previous remakes in the franchise. i can see how someone who hasn’t played pokémon since gen 2 would find bdsp inoffensive, but it’s mediocrity really starts to show when u compare it to even the last remakes (omega ruby/alpha sapphire.) it’s just very lazy, lackluster and phoned in compared to previous remakes and pokémon games in general. it has a laughable amount of extra content and the graphics are just really.. interesting. the chibi artstyle worked great on the DS but bringing it into 3D just makes it look awkward. BDSP would have looked so much better in the style of the let’s go games. basically with all past remakes (FR/LG, HG/SS, OR/AS) they end up being the definitive way to experience that generation by a long shot. this is the first time that a remake has come out where the majority of long term pokémon fans believe the original is a better experience. a lot of the features that u bring up as things u like about bdsp, are mainstay features for the franchise now. so BDSP having no hms/exp share/rebattling isn’t innovative, it’s the bare minimum for the series at this point so no one is impressed by these games having it. these features weren’t brought to the table by BDSP, they’re features that were brought to the table up to a decade ago.i honestly think u should play some other pokémon remakes like OR/AS (the last remake in the franchise) so u can get a sense of why dedicated fans are so disappointed with BDSP

Yeah I think that's a good idea. Would be fun to compare them all after playing them.

When they announced BDSP was going to be a faithful remake, I was happy because it meant it wasn't likely to be ruined by some random bullshit.

I never played Platinum, but I played Diamond when I was little and I loved BDSP. I had so much fun shiny hunting.
