The original configuration of the fountains was in the shape of a number 1, which is why the fountain only extended just to the left of the scoreboard. If you look at an overhead view of the stadium, you can see what I'm talking about. Ewing Kauffman paid over a million dollars of his own money for the fountains as a gift to Kansas City. After dealing with Charlie Finley and his antics as owner of the Kansas City Athletics, it was refreshing to have Mr. Kauffman represent the Royals as owner. He was a gentleman and a class act. We sure do miss him here in KC.

Kaufman is truly a gem. Ive been there pre and post renovation. It's always been a great park. Silly to leave it.

I love Kauffman, been to countless games there. Just took a tour of it last week and got to see the underbelly. It's definitely dated in some areas. The visitor's clubhouse was pretty small. One cool thing is that it's connected to Arrowhead underground. There's a huge tunnel/storage area down there and halfway down the tunnel the paint on the walls changes from blue to red to denote the Arrowhead side. I never knew that underground area existed.

There’s lots of underground in KC in general. Very interesting all the caves we have here.

When on a stadium tour after the 1985 World Championship, they told us from the air the fountains are a “1”.
@chalesgolding531415 күн бұрын
They were used as an aesthetic to comfort (or torture😂) the fans and players on those unbelievably hot games in the late 70’s and 80’s when the stadium had artificial turf and the temps on field were in the 110-120’s…

The owner and his elitist spouse don’t appreciate this beautiful ballpark and aren’t doing a good job maintaining it. The residents want it preserved, not replaced.

They don’t have to move but they will anyway.

Pretty stupid how much money is dumped in these stadiums only to be abandoned 20 years later..
@rayspooner198215 күн бұрын
I agree. I've never been to Kaufman, but I consider it to be one of the cooler MLB stadiums, I don't think a knew one is necessary.
@JoePCool1415 күн бұрын
Especially when everyone goes on about "sustainability". What's so sustainable about tearing down a stadium that's barely 25 years old?
@dacokc15 күн бұрын
@@JoePCool14 right? Same people that want to ban gas cars too… All the equipment building your new stadium will be diesel powered.
@portlandaustin15 күн бұрын
This stadium is almost 50 years old.
@rayspooner198215 күн бұрын
@portlandaustin The two best stadiums in MLB are over 100 years old. Red Sox and Cubs. The Tigers and the White Sox had classic stadiums that everyone loved and now they have mid teir stadiums. We gotta preserve the classic parks and I think Kaufman is aging very well.

I was at Kauffman a few weeks ago for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. It's a great park by most metrics. I actually don't mind having a stadium that's not crammed into a downtown. I know many people do, but this one looks nice with the grass in the outfield. I honestly hope I can make it to another game there before they leave for good. It will be sad when they do.

Kansas City is a very underrated American city…!

The fountain deck seats are great, $85 all inclusive with a wide variety of canned beers from Bud to Boulivard, wine, pop, & limited food menu featuring hot dogs, nachos, various appetizers.

I like Kauffman Stadium. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's a beautiful park.

Coors Field also has fountains, in the batters eye in center field, but only run them when the Rockies hit a homer or pre and post game.

Did not know that about Rome being #1 in Fountains. Explains Italian composer Ottorino Respighi composing _Fountains of Rome_ in 1916. Fountains in Rome date back over 1,900 Years to Roman times....

Royals Stadium is a timecapsule, I'd like the team to stay there.

It waa, maybe still is, the largest privately owned water display in the world. The actual name is the Water Spectacular, named by Mrs Kauffman.

History: Kansas City was the place where people got off boats and headed out onto the trails with draft animals. These draft animals were for sale all over town, and they needed water. The watering troughs evolved into fountains.

Kansas City is a sister city of Rome and that's why Royals Stadium has fountains.
@completezach327915 күн бұрын
I'm from KC, the movtivation for the fountains was to say we have more than Paris. If they want a new stadium it's not going to happen in Jackson County, there is a whole organized voting block that only wants to fund affordable housing. TBH really pisses me off they don't want to keep the Crown vision for a new ballpark

Sad. Great stadium. Maybe Kansas will build them a ballpark.
@kc2dc44415 күн бұрын
The entire point of moving the stadium would be to put it in a more urban area. That's not something the Kansas side has to offer. If they can't move it to downtown KCMO, then just stay where they are.
@Nick-lz8ff15 күн бұрын
Actually I would put it in downtown KCK with KCMO as the back drop.
@kc2dc44414 күн бұрын
@@Nick-lz8ff why, downtown KCK is a joke. KCK only cares about the speedway area and it shows.
@Nick-lz8ff14 күн бұрын
@@kc2dc444 Because it's still in the center of the metro area, the land would be cheaper, and it would transform downtown KCK like the arena and P&L did for KCMO. Keep in mind the Royals plan isn't just for a new stadium, they're going to build an entertainment district and skyrise apartments as well.
@kc2dc44414 күн бұрын
@@Nick-lz8ff I have always wished downtown KCK would do something, it has so much potential. I just don't see the city or the state of KS doing anything decent with the aera. Ever. Kansas is all about sprawl. Period.

Its because Kansas City is called "The city of fountains" and has literally fountains all over the city.

How old are you? Back in the late 1960''s and early 1970's when they built the stadiums, the orange/red seat coloring was fashionable along with shag carpeting... Of course dark blue looks better now because our sense of fashion has changed. Also, it is not random that Kansas City has a lot of fountains. People there have been building them in the city for quite a while now. The Nichols Fountain on the Plaza being the most picturesque. There really is nothing wrong with the stadium that some minor renovations couldn't fix. It is not like the old Municipal Stadium. The Truman Sports Complex was a huge improvement. Any new stadiums wherever they are built, will not be the same kind of improvement for the teams. The ONLY reason to move it would be to put the stadium closer to where the fans who can afford to go to the games live, like the Atlanta Braves did. Moving the stadium downtown doesn't move the Royals much closer to where the paying fans live. It brings people downtown for 80+ events a year to go to sports bars/restaurants before and after the game like the stadium in Baltimore. As the current stadium is only 6 miles east-southeast of downtown and at the crossing of I-70 & I-410, moving it downtown won't make it much easier to get home, get the family, and get back to the the game for the KS suburban fans and will make it a bit harder for the MO suburban fans.

I always thought the orange and red seats Rupp Arena had back in the 90s were REALLY odd. Later they did get all the seats the proper UK blue color!
@dealwithit826615 күн бұрын
I mean some stadiums to this day still have red seats and they compliment the rest of the stadium and the teams colors well. But if the teams colors are blue, then red seats look terrible.
