This is one of the more forgiving AC games too. I'd argue its _the_ most forgiving in the franchise. Previous AC's didn't have checkpoints, healing, the ability to assemble AC mid mission at a checkpoint if you die and try again then and there etc. If youre completely new, it definitely is overwhelming but keep at it and things slowly start to click. Its like driving a car for the first time. Hard and overwhelming af at first, then you drive the thing without thinking later as you gain experience.
@noahknight4039

It’s more forgiving but at the same time I would say harder than 4, 4A, V and a few others. IMO the hardest AC games were on the PS2. I thought AC2, Last Raven and Silent Line were all pretty hard games. I want to say Nexus as well but I barely remember that one.

Something I realized while playing the game is that the original armored core has you dealing with far more strenuous situations. Dealing with enemies was rarely difficult but trying to conserve your limited resources and reduce expenses was the real challenge. The first AC truly felt like you were a struggling mercenary trying to make ends meet. I wish they had leaned into that side a little more instead of just having more and more difficult enemies. However fromsoft knows what they are doing by tapping into the souls-like energy that made them a success. I’m fine with this compromise as long as long as it’s done well and it means that more people get into this genre. It’s still a very fun game, so I’m still surprised so many people have been hating on it like this.

Why ruin the genre just to get more people into it. Retain what made Armored Core great and simply promote it more. Fk Dark Souls and all the toxicity it brought to AC. I'd send dark souls fans straight to the Gaza strip for their influence on AC's development, respectfully.
@lesslighter
@lesslighter 4 ай бұрын
on the upside of the debt system the games have something to counter it energy weapons never cost you anything to fire but generator power and ammo (yes THEY ARE FREE technically speaking) but this is absent since AC4-AC6 where energy weapons now cost something to fire, and if ever you want to recoup costs there's always the arena which is not exactly "efficient" when it comes to income but that depends on how fast you deal with arena opponents which is why when you finally got the Karasawa in AC1 you instantly become rich since ammo costs shouldnt be a factor in your build this still largely remains true in MoA

Honestly 6 feels closer to old gen than 4th and 5th gen did, it's like it standardized the game to be what old gen could've been had they had the skill to code like this back in the 90s. It's also just about as long as any of the other games. Personally I'm hoping for an expansion with more parts. AC6 left me wanting more, and not in a "there wasn't enough" kinda way but in a "there can never be enough to fuel my mecha addiction" kinda way.

The only *real* complaint I really have is I miss the UNAC system from AC:Verdict Day. I loved working on my little AI helper core. I can see why it was left out as it has no place in the story (unless they wrote it in), but it was fun to set the UNAC to "my" build and see what it's like going against my own AC. Or if i'm in a dual trigger dakka dakka build, I can build my UNAC out as the support tank to cover me. Anyways, that's pretty much the only major "missing feature" I missed.

With the True Ending being the hardest because you don't have any of them except for Ayre who would get ECHO early in this case but I understand why UNACs couldn't come back because it would undermine the longer mission structure a bit.

If the camera/lock worked it would be an easy game. Due to the game being deliberately nerfed your second playthough is easy. You are intended to die until you figure out all the little gimmicks of the big bosses meaning survival is 'just keep trying' rather than skill. If the bosses are designed to exploit a problem system the devs left in there to create challenge..... it is not a 'difficult' game but a broken one.

@@nexusdrop7863 "You are intended to die until you figure out all the little gimmicks of the big bosses meaning survival is 'just keep trying' rather than skill." ??? Getting confronted w/ a new mechanic or hurdle and figuring out ways to deal w/ said mechanic doesn't count as skill? Damn, ig every video game doesn't take skill then. Also what do you mean by "If the camera/lock worked it would be an easy game."? Edit: By your "figure out all the little gimmicks" statement, do you mean the rock-paper-scissor nature of swapping to a different build? Your point isn't very clear on that.
@nexusdrop7863
@nexusdrop7863 11 ай бұрын
@@QDRG64 Best example of 'gimmicks' is how the bosses enter a new stage with completely new attacks that basically require you to stop doing what you were doing. Your first time you have no idea what is happening and tend to die before you can figure it out. Follow that with how the bosses always fly PAST you so you have to fight the camera. Point being Fromsoft designed the game around knowing the gimmicks rather than being skilled enough to survive. As for how bad the camera/lock is: there is a video going around about how lock -reduced - accuracy by about 30% extra, to 50% total. Dude was doing range tests and noticed it. I noticed several times enemies would literally dodge as you pressed the fire button, meaning automatic dodge (cheating). You time the second shot to be in the brief window of pause when they dodge. Skipping that you have to fight the camera all the time. Lock, even when it is almost dead center (I mean that literally) , keeps jumping to new targets all the time. If keeping the target right in the middle of the screen is not enough then the issue is the mechanic not skill. To further that one you NEED to buy the boost turn skill, which is not only something you have to BUY but only available way too far in the game for such a necessary 'tool' for the game. Due to that mechanic being needed is why it takes no energy from your pool - you are supposed to use it A LOT. As far as the 'skill' of learning a new gimmick.... once you do there is no challenge. 2nd playthough was a joke, 2nd last boss easier than the 1st. Suddenly all the 'hard' bosses were dead in less than 1 minute. Not due to skill but that part of the gimmick was you had crap weapons. The game was designed around core functions not working. You find the game enjoyable because you are used to games having gimmicks. That is fine but is an argument of tedious instead of skill. Waiting 30 seconds for the boss to magically change/revive is not a skill aspect.

I'm one of those old AC boomers (most active during the AC3/SL days), and AC6 feels a lot like those games to me. It's faster like AC4, but manages to avoid the pitfall of being so fast everything kind of felt the same to play (so you might as well just build a heavy). I can see where they made concessions to appeal to a more casual crowd, but none of that broke the experience for me. At its heart it's old-school AC, and I love it for that.

As a newcomer to Armored Core (loving all mech related media but having never payed attention to ac until the trailers for this one) I absolutely love AC6. I can also see why veterans specifically feel like it falls short between general balance gripes, reliance on stagger, and the fewer parts. Looking at AC6's development however, it kinda becomes clear that they didn't even go all in with this one. This essentially started as a demo in house to revive AC while Elden Ring started development. The team before release wass basically split between Shadows of the Erdtree and this. AC6 as amazing as it is to me, looks like they were just testing the waters. Adding a new entry to see if there's still life in the Mech genre. I think that the good reception this game has been getting is just setting the groundwork for a future of AC as interest continues to grow on it. I have a lot of respect for FromSoft so I also believe that many of the core issues people have with AC6 will be heard and expanded on in maybe an AC6: B so to speak or AC7. I hope at least that there is a long future of ac games. It may not stay the same and will try to change things (for better or worse, like stagger) its going to bring in a lot more people to see and support more games in the franchise and I'm proud to be along for the ride (as late as I am to it).

There won't be an AC7 for a long time, probably not till the next console generation and this one is just starting. What we WILL probably see are 2 more expansion titles of AC6 that build additional options and complexity into the game, new parts, re-balanced parts, new multi-player options, and settings wildly different from Fires of Rubicon. Honestly what makes the most sense for the next game is a Prequel set on Rubicon when it was a vibrant place that is more like the original Armored Core settings. Personally, I hope they move away from the Post-Apocalyptic stuff and start getting back into either a Pre or Post Catastrophy setting where either they're heading for some kind of collapse (Like the Fires of Rubicon) or they've fully built a new functional but cyberpunk dystopian society that is constantly being upended by corporations finding pre-Catastrophy super weapons and tech.

Some games are far more expressive and interactive in only one dimension. I think the real reason Bandai Namco is excited about continuing Armored Core (CEO stated in his latest interview), is because they are getting different buyers. You can take the same people's money so many times and then only so often. But cutting into a new market is exceedingly difficult. To be able to expand your playerbase in multiple directions or even dimensions is obviously an incredible success for Bamco

Thankfully, you are somewhat wrong on Steam charts, AC6 demolished DS3/Sekiro peak player counts, and is Fromsoft's 2nd best launch ever outside of Elden Ring, and I don't think that's just because of Elden Ring besides, mecha is niche because the genre is so damn inconsistent with quality, be it games, anime, movies, comics, etc. I've seen many, many people be turned into mecha fans because of AC6, which is a very good thing to me and I think AC6"FA" or AC6.5 will probably kick absolute ass

I'm an armored veteran. Played AC2 as a 10 year old and been hooked ever since. AC6 is perfect . It's a perfect fusion of all the armored cores. 2(3) 4(4A) and 5(Vday) I was really worried. But they nailed it. Also. Hard mode in this game is finding a mech that speaks to you then making that thing work with as few changes as possible. (Like having a blade build and just changing your blade for the boss, thats what i did. Worked on Balthious) you do not have to change for boss. Just like in sekiro you brute force the game by getting good. Also a really strong tip. Play this on pc with a gaming mouse that has at least two side buttons. Solves all of the control issues. Since I'm a veteran of AC the idea of target assist mode was laughable to me. Half the difficulty of those games is lining up your shots. But then I found out that target assist nerfs your shots and I thought that was the funniest silent buff to old AC players I'd heard of in this game.

honestly, i was disappointed they didn’t go with Sekiro’s death punishment in ER. the whole “go get your souls back” thing has become nothing more than a chore. and especially in an open world, it actually would work against it, as some people would get so wrapped up on trying to get their xp back, that they wouldn’t go elsewhere when clearly they weren’t prepared for a certain area yet. that’s one “souls” mechanic that i wish “souls likes” would stop reusing. it was interesting at first. but once you’re used to it, and especially once you know to always spend your xp, or you hit that point where you don’t want to level anymore, then it doesn’t even matter if you pick them up. now in sekiro, where’d you’d just permanently lose xp and cash? yeah, that hurt. you’d even buy money bags for more than they were worth just to save your money. it forced you to think and be smart about HOW you dealt with your money, not just WHEN you spent it. …but even in AC, you still can be punished for doing poorly in a mission now- even getting a negative payout from a mission. who knows, maybe a dlc will bring back debt into AC? but yeah, you currently still have to worry about ammo costs, and penalties etc on missions.

I'm a newcomer to the Armored Core series as of a few months ago and I heard about the release and kind of forgot about it up until last weekend when I decided to buy it on a whim. This game in my opinion has been some of the best $60 I've ever spent. I'm a long time player of the souls series, I mean from Demon's Souls on the PS3 to Elden Ring and everything in between and without a doubt this feels like FromSoft at its peak in terms of development and ideas and passion for their work. I think for a lot of people who only had only recently got into the Souls-like genre at DS3 or more likely even Elden Ring, they want that fix and gameplay loop offered by Elden Ring and DS3 rather than what Armored Core 6 and the series behind it has to offer. They buy in expecting Elden Ring style combat and boss encounters because that's all they know FromSoft for and that's what a lot media outlets and KZfaqrs pedaled the idea of. Overall, I think the game is absolutely fantastic, I just %100 the game today and I have to say it's definitely a breath of fresh air from not only the Souls formula but the whole Open-World genre and formula as a whole. People have become to reliant on what they expect to see in a game and for a lot of people it's really hard to appreciate something new/different. I don't know but that's just my two cents! Also obligatory edit: I think the gatekeeping of Souls fans and the 'toxicity' of the community through things like 'git gud' is vastly blown out of proportion. Most of the community is really chill and for the most part genuinely helpful and overall the vocal minority in this case needs to be ignored :) We can all enjoy these games for the artform they really are and toxicity and gatekeeping as a whole only leads to suffering as a whole.

AC vet here, played since AC1 (though didn't play For Answer). This game felt like a perfect blend of the classic AC gameplay with some new tweaks to the formula. I think AC6 is a wonderful addition to the AC series as a fresh take on the gameplay and feel. Comparing it to Elden Ring and Dark Souls is a stupid point: You're not playing as a nimble human-like being, you're piloting a MECH. Mechs aren't going to be jumping around slashing swords and swinging hammers and whatnot like a human character. Mechs are going to shoot guns, missiles, lasers, and all sorts of weaponry like that, and move a bit clunkier, even with using boost, because of their nature. Trying to compare it to Elden Ring is like trying to compare a lime to a lemon. Both are citrusy fruits from the same family, but have different flavors to them which let them be their own separate thing.

The only thing i found somewhat lacking about this game was the limited amount of kinetic projectile weapons, like a slower gatling/chain gun for the shoulder or some non laser sniper or heavy assault rifle (The ingame assault rifles need a buff bad to begin with, and while the linear rifles are nice, they are still sub-200 meter effective vs ACs). But outside that, few things that i can complain about, i hope we get some more parts with DLC or anything in the coming year. Also, not gonna lie, i just miss my MARVE and MOTORCOBRA.

some weapons like pistols also have absurdly low ammo counts and you really have to hit your shots or you can run out during a single bossfight. The AC6 Tutorial boss is painfully easy as well, you just have to use the stick dash and hit it twice in the face with the sword. fall; back, top up stun meter with your ranged, and then stick charge it in the face again. The Stick-charge (sorry I don't know the name, you push the left stick in and you zoom to the face of the helicopter) you don't even have to manually fly to it, the stick-charge takes you there. It's so easy, takes less than a minute to beat,. Ofc, if these players are trying to kill it with ranged,, then this is where they are having problems. This fight is designed to teach you specific skills, to prepare you for the game (or at least that's how it feels to me) if you don't use the correct move pattern on him, you probs won't ever beat it. I think AC6 is pretty similar to Sekiro, TBH. the stun meter, especially.

Gen 2 and 3 Raven here and I absolutely love 6. The story and gameplay are incredibly engaging, if anything is wrong with the game it isn’t the bosses or overall design and feel it’d be that there’s some weapon balancing issues that could be addressed. Much of the game had me quite literally at the edge of my chair trying to focus and it was incredibly fun to overcome the challenges. Easily a 9/10 game for me and my GOTY; the more I see of the poor reviews and bad takes the more it seems to be from Idk almost newer Elden Ring fans, not quite like older Souls or just From Soft fans in general, who expected a game AC should probably never be or 4a fans who expected “4a: The Sequel: Redux: Part 2”.

Literally this. As a 3rd gen guy, this game feels like what those epic intro cinematics looked like. It feels like what AC always wanted to be. Only problem is some weapon balancing, like dual gatling guns being stupid OP. And almost all the complaints are from newer Elden Ring type players. Of all the ones he showed, only one was an AC vet (and probably just a 4a guy). The rest either directly mentioned Elden Ring/Dark Souls, or people complaining about gameplay elements that have been a part of AC since 1. But not really present in those titles.

I cheered a bit because I learned the fight enough to not really get hit and made a better build, then I promptly flipped balteus off because that’s what he deserves.

@@seventh-hydra there being a weapon imbalance is a little tricky and it’s definitely the only real issue with the game and it isn’t a huge issue exactly; there are a decent amount of combinations that work very well but some of the weapons are just...harder to use effectively. Some of the weapons are just better by their nature in relation to how the game wants you to play, it very much wants you up close and personal so something like the Zimmerman’s are going to do super well whereas the linear rifles don’t really have enough difference in range to make up for the loss of damageor even the gatlings are good because there’s so many bullets that even outside of effective range you’re still dealing some damage and stagger. There were always kinda OP setups but ammo limits and costs prevent people from running them all the time on everything, without that I’m not sure they exactly knew what to do. Which is fine, many other builds are useable; I think they’re just getting back into the swing of things since they haven’t made an AC game in so long and are trying new things which might take some time to get a handle on. Still a fantastic time, I’m going through ng++ now and I’ve specifically been trying to run more tailor made builds for missions and bosses.

What's really weird too is that AC4 was such a different game to what AC1-3 represented, so when talking about 'old' AC fans we're looking at 3 different groups. "Classic AC", which picked up Armored Core and managed to fall in love with the old clunky controls. "Modern AC" with the people who joined in through AC4 and got spoiled by the game's speed and fluidity and are typically catered to by games like Project Nimbus and Daemon X Machina. And the "misled generation" that got an entirely different picture of what AC represents compared to its past titles, kinda like the people whose first experience with Front Mission was the Front Mission Evolved game.

Something about the way your ac can effortlessly slide across the ground while keeping track of what is essentially two heath bars and four weapons. I guess it just immerses me in the world like no other game has done. Like I’m expertly piloting a mech and getting frustrated when I can’t move due to acs overload. The start of the story being a bit messy makes it feel like I’m just a mercenary working for whoever pays the highest. As soon as I booted up the game everything just clicked and it makes me sad how more people can’t just click like I did. Sometimes a game feels like it’s actively or king against you, and sometimes it feels like a game was made just for you. Ac6 feels like a game made just for me. But if more people pushed through the frustration I’m confident they can find their click and love ac6 just as much as me.

One problem I've noticed though is the early game doesn't accommodate newer players properly like for instance the game frames assault boosts as a traversal option where as its main utility is closing the gap to be aggressive and for evasive maneuvers for homing rockets. I feel like if the wall mission had a vertical homing missile salvo and the game reminded the player of the assault boost, players would have a much better time dealing with Balteus and have enough time to come to terms with build crafting in time for sea spider, but hey thats just my opinion.

That clip of the kid saying it should be more melee focused made me want to punch him in the face. Two handed laser claymore? Seriously?

I feel ya. I think it was a satire, but i felt the clip was perfect because I had plenty of people just in my local play group pretty much asking the same. They really wanted Mecha Souls.

Man these are types of review that make me think them fellas did not go beyond the first play through let alone the Sea Spider. This a game that gets better the more times you finish it which is lowkey crazy

I love it, loved the older AC and I love this one also. Brings back good vibes, why the older AAA games were simply great, without too much crafty, open world stuff

AC6 is actually very similar to For Answer in a lot of ways in my opinion, especially if you played FA with Lock On Assist.

I don’t even get why that lock on assist was such a huge point of drama with AC 6. It’s stuck a stupid thing to worry about.

If you find the game too hard: play the game with a fresh mindset. Not with the mindset of whatever genre you've been playing with your whole life cough*souls*cough. Keep moving around(in boosters). I've seen too many gameplay videos of newcomers just shooting at enemies while stationary or are just walking and not using boosters. Bosses will demolish you with that kind of playstyle. Also, play with the 3rd plane of dimension(flight). Audio and visual cues: there are beeps and red flashing squares that come from enemies when they are preparing to fire devastating attacks. Those are your "tells". Learn to time how to dodge them. Now for those who find the game too easy: stop searching for and copying "op meta builds". Tinker around on your own and try out the plethora of arsenal and parts available. Discover fun builds for the fun of it. Customization is a huge part of why we love this game. Don't rob yourself out of the fun in that. Lastly, maybe the mech genre is really not for you. Just move on and go back to your medieval fantasy games.

Just starting the game and my main complaint as someone that played the souls games but no other armored core is how mission focused everything is and how little they let you explore (at least on this first playthrough). It makes sense for the narrative I just would like to be able to express the environment some more.

I think it's for the best that the game takes a linear mission-based approach. You can't exactly make a varied open world if the entire setting is a post-apocalyptic industrial wasteland. Would get old pretty quickly.

Just so you know, that guy your pulling clips from trash talking AC6, he’s a troll, he does this with literally every single big game release, scroll through his vids, it’s like satirical or something. He does it with everything, not even games, even his own life lol.

This confuses me I have no complaints for this game it’s everything I want in a gundam game just from a different studio and in a different skin I love from soft games and it’s impressive how they’ve never failed me

@GTSW1FT no, he's saying that it's everything that he wants in a gundam game but it's not a gundam game. Gundam should make their games like this though.

I'm enjoying the game, it's one of the most intense I've ever played but the bosses do have weaknesses you have to adapt to (that's why they allow you to reconfigure after dying). I will say that some levels are just obnoxious. The hardlocked 3 heals makes them a chore to push through. I got stuck for over an hour on a checkpoint where you have to fight 2 groups of tough enemies, a miniboss, then an actual boss with drone supports AND then escape the explosion. I simply did not have enough healing to deal with all that BS. I had to painfully optimise my patterns to avoid the first group, then one-shot as many of the 2nd group before they could fight back, dual the dodging miniboss as quick as possible to save at least one heal for the cruiser boss so I could fly away before his drones or explosion killed me. Gave me a headache from frustration. Throw in an unruly camera and I wasn't having fun there.

Not once have i ever seen a mf gundum and thought "This should be more like a souls game" Like dawg elden ring and its difficulty scaling doesnt apply to a f*cking machine fireing rockets over its shoulder. You are a literal machine god, why do you want to diminish that experience?
