Sometimes, we help people from the goodness of our hearts. But other motives can also be at play. A question to self-reflect.

Relationships are contribution, even if it "dOeSnT sEeM gEnUiNE" the very idea of them trying to do it shows that they care and want to make it work. So don`t get gaslighted by toxic people who want to put you down, if you are losing more than you are gaining with a person then just leave and you`ll save a lot of time and energy that could be used to progress your own life.

Just reducing relationships to individual contribution seems a bit too transactional to me; in a lot of cases, there might be willingness to help the other person forward but constraints that need to be faced first. Would you say that those circumstances (even though the right intention might be there) are by default a reason to walk away?
