I've done it - a few times. I've jumped off a dockside warehouse into the sea, I've jumped off cliffs into sea, I've water-skied, I've been deep sea fishing, I've been skiing, modelled for life class and once completed an unplanned 17 mile walk home in under 4 hours walking on the main road (with very few walking paths) in the middle of the night. What have YOU done? ;) Yes, yes, I know, you're Channel 4 and you've done a shit-ton of stuff too. Fair play. ;)

This question seems a bit trivial seeing as the actual core message of the video is quite horrific. It's like showing a video in which someone is involved in a car accident, and then asking 'Do you like driving cars?'.

Aaron B you cut it down to English maths and physical exercise and then let the child learn other things that they know are important like history of the world and our part in it. Then discuss ideas from philosophy and point out the obvious flaws in them like for example that that doesn’t kill me only makes me stronger is nonsense like breaking my leg didn’t make me a better runner. If I close my eyes is the world still there? I say close your eyes and then I’ll slap you in the face is it still there? Yes. There’s your answer I am over simplifying it. Don’t. They have problems of their own and most likely have it worse than you, or had a bad upbringing, show them the way. @Slim2Flo
@Slim2Flo 5 жыл бұрын
DuckBill Entertainment ironically steve jobs was bullied and it inspired him to prove them wrong. Bullying got us our iphones, lets not pretend that this is new either, this has happened for a long ass time and kids like us ( i can’t speak for you really ) that never had a real father figure or any man that showed us how to be a man, this goes for weak fathers or just no fathers, had to learn that shit on our own, the older men in our life from a young age let us down by not showing us or not being there. The opposite for the bullies, they were there but just really shitty to them. At the end of the day we are the ones that benefit, yeah that period of bullying was tough, but trials and tribulations make us stronger, picking on the weaker ( what we were when we were bullied ) is what cowards do that know we couldn’t fight back, now we are strong, let’s see them try that same shit now.
@Slim2Flo
@Slim2Flo 5 жыл бұрын
DuckBill Entertainment in addition, the correlation is that a father that is shitty to his weaker son, knows he cannot fight back. This is what causes a bully. So then that young man seeks out a weaker kid to do the same thing to. Poignant as they become almost entranced as they almost don’t realise what they are doing. I believe that if you drill an idea into a mans head every day... eventually the mind gives up and submits to the idea. The bullies are the kids whose brains had no choice but to submit. Lets just hope this cycle doesn’t continue, don’t sow your hate further, you let it go because at the end of the day you are storing this anger and it only hurts you. Peace be with you man.

I feel your pain my friend. Two bigger kids at school bullied me for over a year and ended up hanging my by my tie in a bathroom. Luckily another kid from my class came in and screamed the place down moments later and the gym teacher was outside. He came in and got me down with the help of a maths teacher who I kept in touch with until I was in my mid 30s when she passed away. Thankfully it all happened so fast that I’ve suffered no lasting physical injuries in terms of my brain being starved of oxygen for any great length of time, but the mental scars ruined my schooling right up until my last year. I still get nightmares now but am ok most of the time. I count myself very lucky not to mentally suffer more seriously.

I know this might not help a lot of you out there, but i just wanted to share some information about bullying that I received when I was a kid. So I went to an all boys high school and was pretty short, nerdy, glasses etc, I liked weird things like collecting coins and flowers and just being a goofy kid. I started getting bullied around the age of 13, most of the time it was only verbal stuff and I was quick witted enough kind of banter it off etc. However when I was 15 one guy started getting physical with me and others saw that as an opportunity to do so as well. Although not nearly as bad as the recruit's story, similar things would happen to me where I would have my work stolen, have belongings stolen, be punched randomly in the hallway. My dad saw that this was happenning as I told him why I'd been so unhappy at school lately, and he told me that it's going to sound crap but there's only one way out of the cycle. It's to just fight back, but only on one of them, it might lead to retaliation sure, but if you fuck up one of them enough where the others are scared when theyre by themselves, it'll stop. He mentioned that emotional damage from bullying can be lifelong, whereas physical pain is in the moment and can be endured and can heal. Nobody will want to have someone as an enemy who might randomly attack them was his reasoning, much like they were doing to me. I remember the sort of right hand man to the bullying was a kid called Elliot. One day when we were waiting for class in a line I used that opportunity to attack, I actually did kickboxing for a few months in preparation for this. I cant tell you the satisfaction it gave me, I just sucker punched him straight to the head and beat his ass, and I wont lie it felt good. Never bullied again. Some people only respond to violence.

Similar story here. I started my job as an apprentice and i was always verbally bullied by an older and much bigger apprentice. I could deal with the verbal bullying but it did get to me a lot of the time, but i chose to just shrug it off. Then one day at the work Christmas party he decided to push me over out of the blue, for absolutely no reason. Being a skinny guy at the time i went flying. I got up and saw him laughing to some others about what he had done, seeing that i had a complete adrenaline rush. Everything went white and i ran at him full speed, pushing him over a table that everyone was sat at, i started punching him (i did Krav Maga at the time because i was insecure about my size, so i could punch). A good work friend of mine had to get me off him and wrap his arms around me to stop me, even then i was kicking him. I won't lie, nothing has ever felt more satisfying, i'm glad i did it and he left me alone afterwards!

It's a damn shame that I know EXACTLY how that lad feels. I am nearly 50 years old and have never forgotten the bast***s at school that would do that to me nearly every day of every week for 5 whole years. As someone who has recently been diagnosed with ADHD I now know why I stood out to them and was an easy target. My dad was special forces and was never at home so I didn't have his guidance, but on the other hand, I also put the pressure on my self to be strong like him (which I never was) and not focusing on being myself. those who do bully, bully for a reason and it will usually be a compensation for something else but that doesn't go for everyone. As you get older you learn things by experience and gain understanding of a lot of things and as such, you should take what you learn and apply it in a positive manner if you can. I don't have children, although I have a large family and through helping my nephews & nieces through education both mentally and physically they have become stronger at school and turned around the bullies. It all comes down to these simple yet very hard to claim hold of reasons. 1.... don't EVER let fear own you. You own your own feelings and can use them to your own will. 2. Even if you are scared, when the time calls for it, be strong and know (not think) that failure is not failure AT ALL if you give it you're very best. 3. Know yourself, love yourself and trust yourself. From that will come confidence and self belief. The lack of these are the main culprits to which are the reasons why most people allow themselves to be bullied in the first place. 4. Acceptance. Once you accept that you can not control people and that they will do things you don't like you won't be bogged down by the never ending questions you ask yourself all the time. WHY? I am very much against bullying wether it is children doing it or adults. I will not tolerate it and my only wish was that I knew then what I know and apply now. Life can be a twat sometimes, but it is also the greatest of all things. I have had a lot do deal with in my lifetime thus far. My wife died to cancer My mum died to cancer My dad has recently died to cancer Many friends have died I have seen family abuse & degrade other members of family......... I grew up watching people die in the TT on the Isle of Man. Life can be very, very hard but it will only get the better of you if YOU ALLOW IT. Fear is the one thing in life you must not succumb to.

he doesn't want to kill anybody, he is used to be bullied, this is the model of human interaction that is under his skin if you will, so he will bring on himself situations in which he will be blamed, just like he was when he was a kid. That's why he looks almost happy when he was being told of. Need for human interaction is greater than self-interest and keeping good opinion. He needs to learn to accept the past and know it wasn't his fault. I am sure that this conversation was very important for him. Good fucking work.

Yep, same story here, like many people suffered persistent bullying throughout my entire school life. Go home, domestic violence there. Took me a very long time to move on, in fact around the age of 30 my mother told me, "You can choose to live in the past, or create your own future". I chose the latter. The past haunts yes, but far less now in my 40s.

I know how you feel number 18, I was bullied in school quite badly as well. I was often kicked, thrown to the ground sometimes chairs thrown at me and one of the worst things was when I was having a lunch break, a couple of students threw me to the ground and dragged me with my bare back on the concrete until it was bloody and shredded. But you have to stay positive as the negative thoughts will only bring you down.

I can relate to this. I was bullied so bad in school as a young teenager in ireland in the early 80s I wanted to end my life. It still effects me to this day. I still feel the terror and fear to this day of getting up in the morning and waiting for the school bus knowing what the day ahead would bring. I believe bullying whether it happens in the workplace or in school should be treated as a criminal offence.

I was bullied the entire time I was in High School (i am female granted). Most of the bullying was terrifying and severe. Many people sneeze at the notion of people describing that they were 'bullied' despite progressive social and mental health movements. My point of the comment is that I still don't think people realise how horrible it can get or what It can do to you for the rest of your life. Bullying doesn't just end suddenly and then you get on with it and you are this normal person who can function. There was never really any strong support or understanding for me, I can't imagine what it would be like for a guy who implied he endured severe incidents. Bullying isn't just name-calling. It has been over 6 years since I graduated high school and I am still dealing with the repercussions of what I went through as an adult. I will never be the person I wanted to be because of it. I can't trust people. I struggle to form friendships. I've tried to kill myself twice. Ive battled depression and anxiety for over 10 years. Ive never had a relationship. Its really really hard to keep going and try to move past it. I still feel very alone. I also hate how people describe that the bullies or those that bully are the 'losers'- this is a fallacy, often bullies do pretty on the weak, that's fact- the people who bullied me are living successful professional lives with relationships- meanwhile, I struggle to work and hold down a job due to my anxiety, no matter how much mental health support I get. Bullying is a horrible and unfair situation that barely ever results in any action or justice.

It's amazing how when pushed and pushed...it starts to break down walls that were put up by a kid in school to protect himself. It's hard to watch...but that moment would have been like opening a pressure relief valve for him. I experienced bullying in school. I wouldn't say it affects me still but it's shaped the way I am. It's something that can change someone's life and it shouldn't be underestimated. My parents didn't take it seriously. If you've got a kid who is experiencing bullying...nip it immediately, same day...don't hesitate.

Well the simple fact of the matter is, his bullies are more than likely in a lower situation than he is. Those who have dealt with bullies and pushed past it are generally always in the better situation in life. If someone bullies someone else then clearly that person has very weak self-esteem and motivation, which are two major factors entering adulthood. This lad should just try to put those bad memories past him and realize that he's out there doing something that not one of those bullies would ever do, that he should be very proud of.

I was bullied the same way this lad was. They'd do stuff to me to make me look like the bad one. They'd put spiders in my hair when I didn't know so other people would point it out and make me look dirty. They damaged my personal property not only to upset me but also to embarrass me, cut holes in my trousers in horrid places and so on but made it look like tears. The school did nothing. When I came to finally stand up for myself the lads started crying, the teachers said they'd learnt their lesson and would deal with it no more. That complaint I made made it far worse, they began following me home. I cracked and with it, cracked one of them. I was disciplined by the school for bullying them!! I couldn't believe it and refused to go back to school. The teachers admitted they knew I was being bullied but because they weren't violent they wouldn't intervene. Therein lay the problem, teachers didn't/don't understand bullying. That school let me down. I saw one of those lads in town one night years later, he had the cheek to throw an arm around my shoulder and introduce me to his friends as his old school mate. I pushed him off before explaining to his mates and him what he had done, his response? "Get over it, it's been 10 years." They never change.

Having kids myself, and having experienced school life like that, i try and prepare my kids to see the rainbow of personalities and in particular, to recognise the traits of bullies. As a parent, I can bet with a high degree of certainty, which parents were the bullies - or purhaps still are in their workplace. And sure enough, their kids show all the attributes of over confidence, lack of empathy, who want the company and attention of only the "cool" kids, adored by their parents as little angels and promoted through their social media as though the kids are Royals.

if you want your child to get through school unaffected by bullying, teach him or her how to throw a good punch. And then start counteracting the constant brainwashing that "there is never ANY reason to use violence EVER." If that was true we wouldn't have armies or nukes or navies. Everybody EVERYBODY I know that stopped their bulling problem did so with one swift punch/kick/chair in the back. Your child will be put into detention, that is the price for their being respected. 1 hour and some shouting for years of peace and quiet.

They’re not getting favourised or going further or treated differently because of the stories so you can’t really compare it to “talent” shows, because in those cases I agree with you, but this is totally different they’re not gaining any advantage. The only thing they’re doing is telling their own story, which in many cases is the main reason they apply for something like this. If anything I think people actually struggling with mental health, which is an alarmingly high number of people, really benefit from hearing these stories and seeing how life can get better.
