Still didn't answer the question why there isn't many in the shops though, I am lucky to even find any, Tescos, Asda, Heron, Morrisons, Co-Op, Aldi are the stores I have looked, the odd time ther might be a small tray of jars in one of them, but they're gone fast, there's loads of Mussels, seems nobody wants them, I love to have cockles, mushy peas and some mint sauce all mixed in a cup, I've had that for 40yrs from when my Mum and Grandma used to buy it off the Pea stall when we visited the market.

My father would tie an onion bag full of cockles off the side of the boat harbor & pour a box of cornmeal over the top of em. After a few days they remove most the sand & pre-stuff themselves! Tasty!

Because its probably not true as there are loads of life in the sea that eat them but even if it was true and we are, what has us catching and eating them got to do with them in that area dying at a much smaller size than they use to

Pay the fisherman's bills give them a few years off of work and see if the cockles can be rehabilitated. Have the fisherman help rehabilitate the cockles. Why is humanity so apathetic about low-quality living standards.
