I've seen Nickelback twice in the UK. I loved them and they even mention them being hated. Ultimately who gives a shit, just listen to what you like!

Think it's a good band. :) Not really among my favorite ones, since only favorising a few songs, but they are good. Heard some rumours and opinions about them, such as that they don't really play guitars but using playback and/or similar to make it sound so. And being a band of "girls". >_< People can indeed voice their points of view in today's free society, but sometimes they can be as immature as the latter example. Sooo childish to call folks gay, just because they got special hairdos, looks etc. -And being gay is no sin nor bad thing anyway. I'm straight, but would rather have a gay bud than a straight a-hole. Gotta Be Somebody and When We Stand Together are songs I'm often humming inside now and then, and also giving a thumb up for Photograph.

I think the real reason that Nickelback gets hate is actually a handful of closely related reasons. For starters, there are a lot of people that really do not like lead singer's voice. There was a small window of time in the late 90's, early 2000's, where this kind of music was everywhere. And sometimes, it can be a little harsh on the ear, especially if you hear it a lot. And if you listened to the radio much at all in 2004, you would have heard it a lot. Then there is a bit of a problem with their hits being a little derivative of each other. There's a pretty awesome demonstration of this where someone plays How You Remind Me right next to Someday, and I'll be damned if they don't sound incredibly similar. So, combined with the above, someone with a keen ear for music is going to be incredibly annoyed, between them getting a little overplayed, and the similar nature of some of their songs. Which brings me to the last reason: some people are music snobs. I'm not too good to listen to Nickelback, and some of their rock stuff, ngl, is pretty good. Some people might call it "butt rock" but I'm not too good for that genre either. Though, point taken, I loathe a lot of their pop hits. If the song Photograph were lost from human memory and no one ever heard it again until the end of time, it would be a good thing for humanity, especially myself.

I'm a child of the '80s. Listen to some of the "great" hard rock bands of my generation-- Bon Jovi, Dokken, Judas Priest, Cinderella, Ratt, Winger, and so forth. I don't care that Nickelback produces the greatest rock music, but the songs are at least as good as those '80s and '90s bands, and some are much better. For instance, people complain about "Photograph," but that song actually means something to me because it reminds me of many memories from when my children were very young. I sure as he** don't get the same feelings when I hear "Dream Warriors" (Dokken), "Born to Be My Baby" (Bon Jovi), "Way Cool Jr." (Ratt), and so on. The hatred towards Nickelback seems to be more the result of the bandwagon effect than truly bad music.

Why do people pretend that what makes them happy vs what makes money is always the same thing? If making money is what you care about then most likely, caring about what other people think is what you do most of the time. Most people tell other people they should do what makes them happy and not care about what other people think while they are literally doing the exact opposite most of the time which is doing what ever makes them popular and money. I think it's because they are lying to themselves about their own motives and the kind of person they are.

People bash Nickelback for playing music that was made to be radio friendly, easy to learn, and catchy. Yet praise bands did the same thing in the 80s like AC/DC, Guns & Roses, Def Leppard, the Ramones, the only difference is that those bands have nostalgia. Don't get me wrong I love those bands but they were stagnant for almost a decade until they were popular enough to do something new. Nickelback never got the chance to hit that stage of experimentation because every one hated them immediately. Airborne is an AC/DC clone and put out music similar to Nickelback but they don't get hate.

I am an old guitarist so I tended to get in to bands before they hit main stream and was on to the next thing when they made it big. Personally, IDGAF about every song from a group, I may like several or a few. Nor do I care political BS unless it is way out there. But I can get down with Gwar and Sia, ya know.
