I remember when this came out. My friend and I were such Brendan Fraser fans, we had to watch it. And we adored it. Most reviewers don't seem to know it exists, which is a shame Our favorite part, which we always quote, is: "Are you fighting with the narrator?"

Thinking back, this is one of the movies that made me fall in love with Meta humor (along with Robin Hood Men in Tights). I wouldn't be surprised if this movie was a reason Brando Fraiser was in those Mummy movies because that was very action oriented with some humor.

Kay, when I got myself immersed into George of the Jungle as a little lad, specifically when I saw the trailer, I remembered being totally enamored with George played by Brendan Fraser lifting his dumbbell. I would even go out of my way to state that George of the Jungle was my childhood man-crush because of his fine, well-toned, muscular physique and just how lovably goofy he was. As a grown-up, the entire film continues to demonstrate how fun it can be and it is all right to have it on whenever I have a crummy day. Therefore, the 1997 George of the Jungle live-action movie and even the 1960s George of the Jungle cartoon are fun pieces of work to keep me in a good mood.

There are like a million and a half movies that are worth a watch, but I think the best way is to work your way through related and similar movies. Yeah... though, in hindsight, the reason Dudley DoRight wasn't as memorable as George of the Jungle is the same problem Wrongfully Accused with Leslie Nielsen had... the jokes are all there, but the movie doesn't flow well enough so, looking back, you have trouble recalling and putting the scenes in order.

Hello, my fellow 90s baby! When I was little, the only things that seemed odd to me were the animals from other continents. I had learned enough by that point in my life to know that toucans and orangutans don't exist in Africa. As I got older, however, I started picking up on all the grownup themes. These are my favorites: 1] Ursula never loved Lyle to begin with, which is pretty obvious in how she behaves around him. She chose a guy, whose background would the most acceptable and impressive to her parents, especially her mother. She was trying to do what was expected of a girl of her stature, instead of totally following her heart. I think the only person who knew the real her was her best friend, Betsy, and to a slightly-lesser degree, her father. When Arthur tells her to go to George, the viewer gets the sense that he was telling her not to repeat his mistakes. 2] Lyle shows a lot of red-flag behaviors that point to him either being abusive already, or being on the way to becoming abusive. It's kind of scary to imagine the life Ursula would've had with him, if the trip to Africa had never taken place. 3] The fact that George took all those concussions, and he was still able to speak coherently, is a sheer miracle. Overall, I will never stop loving this movie. I was laughing right along with you, throughout the video. (7/18/2021)

You know that scene with the rich guys looking at the women gawking at George as he plays with the horses, wondering what's with women and horses, while not understanding they're actually salivating for George? This short moment should be preserved in carbonite for future generations of men who think sexy is being James Bond, when in reality sexy is being George of the Jungle: a smart, fun, kind man who is also strong, brave and loyal to his friends and loved ones. He doesn't care what you think of him because he's a free thinker who believes people can be the best versions of themselves. It also helps if he looks like a young and athletic Brendan Fraser, but that's only a plus.

Hilarious movie! Fun fact: The theme from GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE was composed by Stan Worth, who went on to compose many game show themes in the 1970's, among them the 1978 $100,000 NAME THAT TUNE, for which he was onstage band leader. Sadly, he was killed in a plane crash, shortly after composing the theme for LAS VEGAS GAMBIT.

And you're right, a lot of the jokes were not gotten by kids. In fact I was watching an old "Rocky and Bullwinkle" show the other day to unwind, a Mr. Peabody joke went over my head and I'm over 60. It was about Beethoven needing inspiration so they surrounded him with cheese because they thought that's what the Moon was made of'; this inspired him to write the Moonlight Sonata. This may answer your question about the animals in George of the Jungle: In the opening animated sequence, various animals swing on vines with young George, his "dog" Shep (actually an elephant), fetches a crocodile instead of a log, and a wildebeest falls in love with a bushman wearing a wildebeest mask. In the live action film, a whole host of animals are seen. George fights with a lion, accidentally swings on a snake instead of a vine, rides an elephant, talks to a bird, and lives with various monkeys and apes. The lion, elephant, and bird scenes were all filmed with a mix of real animals, puppetry (especially for the lion fight), and CGI (to show Shep the elephant acting like a dog). The scenes with the orangutan, a chimpanzee, and the capuchin monkeys were filmed with live animals, but some computer work was used in a scene wherein the little monkey imitates George. The large gorillas who live with George were all costumed actors who were Henson puppeteers. Their faces were remote-controlled animatronic heads, which, along with the yak fur gorilla suits, were provided by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. All were meticulously trained in gorilla behavior. In the "Pride Rock" scene, when George presents his son to the animals, CGI work is again used.[4]

George of the Jungle was originally a cartoon, and an awesome one at that (the 2007 remake, not so much). Yes, that is an actual lion, although they also used puppetry in some parts of the scene. Regarding mistaking George's footprint for an ape's, technically humans are apes (and apes are monkeys). That would be interesting if a dude took Ape's advice on attracting girls in real life and it worked. I think Beatrice secretly likes Lyle herself and is trying to get Ursula to marry him so she can indirectly live out her fantasies through her daughter.

There were two cartoon series. The original (1967) and the reboot. I grew up on the original. OPEN: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ep6iicx3nLzDn3U.html CLOSE: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h819i6d01MzPlqM.html Originally it was going to be animated in Mexico, but Jay Ward decided that the quality would be higher if it were animated in the U.S. So it was. The show wound up being cancelled even though it was a hit because animating it in the U.S. made it too expensive. I've always loved the live-action inserts near the end of the closing credits.
