Running a 2012 also with a quad core i7, 16gb ram, and fusion drive. Still a great machine! Picked up on ebay for less than the cost of an iphone.

What games do you play? its alright for light gaming. Ive played over 200 hours of rimworld and prison architect. Graphic intesnse games dont work though. i think the best ive seen work is black ops 1

i have the 2012 mac mini too but the 500gb hdd is dead so i replaced it with a 240gb kingston ssd. one thing is good that i can connect to my windows laptop via LAN port.

Yeah, back in 2010 I got a new Samsumg 8000 series 55 inch flat-panel and got a Mac Mini specifically to hook an external drive to in order to play any video in my collection. It is super convenient and with a wireless keyboard and trackpad and a small lap-desk that can be easily picked up or handed to anyone visiting, any video can be quickly searched and played (as well as bringing up a browser for KZfaq or Netflix or the anything they want to show me). Everyone seems to naturally know how to use it when I hand it to them because most use Macs. Last year, I had been collecting more 1080p60 videos and the older Mac Mini would not play them without the video stopping (it would play 1080p30 all day long with no problem) and I came across an open-box newer Mac mini (2 core i5) and it plays 1080p60 just fine, so it was a drop-in replacement, except for the annoying fact that it had no optical drive built in.

its a shame apple got rid of the optical drive. I personally have never owned a mac mini but i defiantly could find a use as a media streaming computer that's silent with low power compunction

I have a 2012 Mac mini hooked up to a home theater using HDMI. Combined with the Kodi HTPC software that setup works great for 1080p TV shows & movies.

Same as my specs, also bought in 2014; but with a 256 onboard SSD. I use it to record and edit sound files almost exclusively. I notice sometimes while recording, there's stuttering. But it's the wave display that stutters, not the recording. Otherwise I would have gotten rid of it. Another thing--it's not totally silent, so I can't have it in the booth with me.

Switch to Windows. Build an ultra high spec PC for a fraction of the price. You also don't have to wait for product launches with bated breath. Upgradeable and customizable too. I built my i5 3570K with z177 mobo, 16 gb RAM, 128 gb ssd for booting the OS and an NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti. It still works well and the only thing I've had to replace is a faulty SATA hdd. I run the same programs you do and more. There's more value for money with building your own PC. Oh and this build was in 2011 or 2012.
