This was the ultimate bench test! I have to say, the warnings against flying this wing make it so tempting to try. 😅 It ground handles so nicely. But don't do it! If you do want to pick up a Roadrunner STRICTLY for kiting, hit me up at info@tuckergott.com. I think this wing is a great tool to initially learn and to keep your skills sharp. tuckergott.com/collections/gliders/products/ozone-roadrunner

Do not under estimate this wing!! I bought one to gain some experience before heading off to PPG training. As a beginner I was trying to stay in calmer conditions but one day got caught in some sudden surprise gusts and got yanked off my feet and slammed down again. Off to the emergicare for Xrays which thankfully showed nothing broken. Good learning experience for me and from that point on I gave it the respect it deserves. I have to say I am VERY glad I bought it to get a head start on ground handling which DID help when it came time for PPG training. The other reason for the purchase was to spend the summer getting this OLD body back into shape and developing some muscle conditioning so when it came time for training camp my body was a little more prepared.( I had heard that PPG training can be physically demanding ) Thanks Tucker for all the entertaining videos over the years!!!

Hi, I own this wing and enjoy it. It is nice to have practice time when you are hanging around waiting for the wind to calm down. It is twitchy. Which means your reaction times get better quickly. You learn to react very fast, and that is an invaluable skill for any pilot. When you hook into a full size wing after kiting this thing, it feels so much easier, because you react to changes far quicker. If you are afraid of getting lifted, just stay off the breaks as much as possible and use weight shift, as you would with any glider. I recomend it highly to all pilots who wish to keep their skills sharp, and primary glider a long time.

I spent time with a similar wing some years ago -the Dudek Marlin. I would definitely say they have their place in the learning curve. Yep - I have had a Frenzy since 2005. Powerkiting is a lot of fun - long strings give a heap of challenges - and tricks, I encourage all "wannabee" kite surfers/snow-flyers to get good at flying a kite before strapping onto a board. After getting good at flying a kite on the ground and in the air - fast winging isn't more than one step-off further. Kiting is what you do on high wind days - nothing is quite the same as boosting from water, snow or sand in 25-40 kts... (Fly on short lines for a "paraglider like" experience.)

Good video...I just bought mine 2 months ago from Aviator PPG, I didn't know you were selling them at the time but I did drop your name. One thing I had issue with was the lack of instructions with it. It also stated that the manual is available online and it is not. I'm glad you checked it out and recommended a max wind speed for this glider of about 25 mph. That was a helpful bit of info that I feel should be with the glider for safety, especially one that isn't airworthy and targeted at beginners pilots.
@emcfar99
@emcfar99 3 жыл бұрын
Be careful before going out in 25 mph wind, and high gusts until you get some control. I do that now for fun, but usually have my hands on the C's or ready to grab them. Laminar wind at 8-12 with gusts to 15 should be ideal for learning. Watch some videos like Peter Holdy's or Andre Bandarra's videos, and get acquainted. That thing can take you into the air, drag you, or both, so please be careful.

great video.. I flew stunt kites for years and years and neutral was my friend in gusts, well unless going for the maximum pull after a dive so I could intentionally lift off and go for distance (some competitions). This made me think. Do you think a stunt kiter with competition level experience would excel in para motoring understanding the basics though my para-quin stunt kit was only 9' wide. The learning curve was a bit harsh not only for damages to kite to replacing the entire kite.

I did the same, but shortly after starting. I enjoyed kiting (still do), and didn't want to trash my full-size. I recently traded my Groundhog for a new Roadrunner, and I'm glad for both. IMO, the Groundhog is faster, but the Roadrunner reacts more like a real wing. I've been in the air on both, on a safe kiting hill, but I wouldn't recommend getting too high up. 15-20mph is a good time.

This wing is not for the average paramotor student as you said. I doubt anyone's gonna want to pay $1200 extra just to practise kiting a bit. This wing is for clubs, who'll have new students coming through frequently and will actually go through wings just in kiting, so having a wing that's slightly easier to kite and half the price of a full one is great for them. The only non-club people I can see buying it is perhaps if a group of people are doing paramotoring together then they might wanna get one to share... Which is kinda like a club anyway.

I've done a little bit of paragliding in Costa Rica. It doesn't intrigue me too much but the videos are on my channel if you want to check it out.

@@TuckerGott paragliding pilots need way more skills than paramotor pilots to stay in the air and fly long distances. Paragliding is a great game, if you win, you keep playing( flying), if you lose, you lose hight and have to land.

@@niconico3907 I agree it takes more skill to keep a paraglider aloft when compared to a paramotor, but in general, they're completely different skill sets. It just doesn't interest me.

Tucker, instead of almost knowing what the wind is doing why not get a Kestrel 4000 pocket wind measuring device, $100 -$400 on Amazon....I use one and love it.
