In this video:
While there is no single correct way to walk, most of us have a gait where we swing each arm forward when its opposing leg moves forward; likewise, as with the length of the stride, which is generally the same for both legs, the distance of the arm swing is usually about the same for both the left and right arms. While exactly why humans do this hasn’t yet been definitively proven (with the most popular theory being that, while not essential, it’s mostly about improving balance and decreasing angular momentum of the body), the fact remains that this is how the vast majority of humans all over the world walk… But not so with Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation.

0:29 Every four legged animal does this and it's basically the exact same step order still, even when humans just walk on two legs. When running, this transforms into the same step order as a trot. In other words, humans naturally walk as if they'd walk on both legs and arms, just with the body upright and the arms not touching the ground. So it's a legacy of instinct that has survived ages of evolution. 3:22 Well, _his_ KGB days haven't ended yet, I presume...

I know lots of people who walk like this or similar ways. They carried pistols as side arms be it in war or civil times it's all the same. And years later without even carrying weapons anymore the movement imbeded into the mind. I personally also had to learn to walk slowly and still to this day struggle with it, soon as I move, I make fast movements, ever since when I was a kid and young adult I was always in a hurry to school or jobs due to penalties etc, later when I retired, I just couldn't slow down. Often people tell me I look like I am charging an attack at someone and fear me even tho I just moved from A to B with a causal intend. Also for people who don't know, it isn't healthy to walk fast all the time, body needs moderate movements the extremes and strains being a short burst only.

It makes a ton of sense for him to be armed. He's a prominent world leader, one whom many have mixed feelings about. I imagine it's more being ready than an old habit. At any point somebody could draw on him, he needs to be ready to fire back.
@CancerLord

@@tomcat8662 this makes sense, but in his KGB training he never mentioned why and what reasons. It's just his style because he was ready to give everything for his country. And no. What comes to mind for me is that "hit" song from the 90's by Genesis; "I CAN'T DANCE" song just popped into my head while watching this video! Lyrics... Hot sun beating down Burning my feet just walking around. Hot sun making me sweat 'Gators getting close, hasn't got me yet. I can't dance, I can't talk. The only thing about me is the way I walk. I can't dance, I can't sing I'm just standing here selling everything. Blue jeans sitting on the beach, Her dog's talking to me, but she's out of reach. She's got a body under that shirt, But all she wants to do is rub my face in the dirt. Cause, I can't dance, I can't talk. The only thing about me is the way I walk. No, I can't dance, I can't sing I'm just standing here selling. And checking everything is in place, You never know who's looking on. Young punk spilling beer on my shoes, Fat guy's talking to me trying to steal my blues. Thick smoke, see her smiling through. I never thought so much could happen just shooting pool. But I can't dance, I can't talk. The only thing about me is the way I walk. I can't dance, I can't sing I'm just standing here selling And checking everything is in place. You never know who's looking on. A perfect body with a perfect face. These lyrics if you read between the lines ("just standing here selling and checking everything's in place," " you never know who's looking on" the hypervigilance of an agent!) and imagine it's really about secret service/agents, following their training, speaking in code!!! Funny it just "hit" me that way!!! 😎🚶🎶🤫🕴️👣💩-tin!!! 🤣

Putin was KGB, so that probably has something to do with it." and a bunch of people got paid for that shit. How the fuck can I get in on some of that money? Analyzing people is easy as shit.

"Why no video of Putin actually walking you ask? Unfortunately, it's a copyright issue. If we used footage, then we risk getting the video flagged and getting a copyright strike. Three of those strikes and the channel goes away... So I hope you can understand our desire to play it pretty safe with this stuff. Indeed copyright is often the reason we won't show something that seems like it should super-obviously be included... " (pinned comment)

As a person who used to keep a holster on my right hip, I would often smack it while walking, so I eventually subconsciously learned not to swing my right arm as much when walking. Its been years since I've worn a holster there, and I still walk exactly like that, very similarly to Putin himself. No KGB training (as far as I know ._.), just learned not to smack a holster. I wouldn't be surprised if that is another part of why KGB walk that way...

When one arm swings correctly and the other doesn't, it's associated with diminished mental capacity. It's also a sign of oncoming dementia. If you notice that this is the case with how you walk, make a concerted effort to swing BOTH arms evenly. You can re-teach your brain what you learned as a toddler and make your brain healthier. This is based on studies, btw, not my opinion.

The answer might be a bit more boring than what is speculated here. The archbishop of Finland used physical force to stop Mr. Putin and broke Putin's clavicle. When Putin was the vice-mayor of St. Petersburg, Russia, in early 90s he visited Turku, Finland regularly. (The cities are twinned.) He became good friends with his Finnish counterparts and during one trip in 1994 the hosts and the visiting delegation agreed to play a match of soccer. (Indeed, Putin prefers ice-hockey and has later played that often with other world leaders.) However, during the match Putin was tackled by John Vikström (who later became the archbishop of Finland) so badly that Putin's clavicle got fractured. The medical operation back in Russia did not succeed perfectly, and since that Putin has not been able to use his arm very well.

It's not a stretch to assume he's wearing a sidearm. That's what I always assumed, and I didn't really consider his gait to be all that odd.

Jesiah Mac I've always thought couldn't had a gun on him. I know besides bodyguards if I was the president of a country I would be packing all the time.

Very interesting analysis! Unfortunate that you do not show a short clip showing Putin walking to simply see if your theory hold water. I was wondering if combined with carrying concealed weapons a KGB agent wears a bulletproof vest which would somewhat have an impact on the way they stand when they walk as your posture must have a big impact on how you walk.

I definitely think it’s due to his KGB days and when Palsy of some kind was suggested, I, someone with Cerebral Palsy, was like “oh hell no, not you, Putin. Save the cool gait for the decent people of the world”😂

I remember seeing him for the first time as he walked into a room. I told my husband (who used to work as a translator for finno-ugric languages found in the former USSR) - "I bet that guy used to be in the KGB. He sweeps the room with his eyes as if he were the bodyguard, not the guy being guarded." I had no clue at the time who Putin was or what he did, but that gait and the way he scans a room are pretty telling.

Has anyone considered that it could be not just that it's ingrained in him but that he's actually still carrying a sidearm daily? Knowing what we know about him, this seems a likely explanation.
