That’s why Kakashi never removes his mask in Naruto and Boruto anime. For the longest time, many of us have been wondering who's hiding behind Kakashi's mask, but for some reason, only a few people question why he wore the mask in the first place. You would think he was born with it because he's always worn it since he was little. Kakashi's life has always been about shame, loss and grief. His father choosing his team over a mission, the shame it brought him, the grief of not being able to say goodbye, loosing pretty much everyone he loved and cared about, many times as a consequence of his own actions. Times like these, people like to hide themselves perhaps cover themselves with a mask because it brings them a sense of protection and comfort. After Shippuden, kakashi was finally able to get over everything in his past, therefore being more open to going out and about without a mask, all be it, in a different form

in all honesty, the mask just adds a mysterious aura to the character, so maybe he wears it to feel mysterious, seeing as he always wears more than one mask to avoid having the first one removed, and as a bonus, the mask adds a secretive effect to the point he CAN walk in and out of ANYWHERE because nobody knows what he looks like under the mask, and seeing as he has a mole, if he were to show his face, getting a disguise would be harder because you can just move a mole, and kakashi don't look like a make-up kinda guy to me

nope when debuting the special manga for kakashi's face reveal kishimoto was asked about it why he hid his face for so long. and kishimoto's answer was that at first he didnt really put much thought into it he just thought it looked cool for him but then after seeing how popular the character had become and how much people wanted to know he gave it some more thought, and summarized that the real reason is probably because kakashi feels embarrassed to show his face around others and that he doesn't want people to get distracted by the fact that he has such prominent features.(in japan btw if you posses a mole by your lip they consider it incredibly attractive and that you're a very beautiful person.)

I always thought he wore it to hide his identity so he wouldn't be recognized if he were to remove it. Like he did when he was acting as Sukea. It's alot less suspicious to hide in plain sight by not wearing it imo. I've got one theory for a long time. Author of Naruto, Kishimoto, had something different in mind on start. Almost every ninja before event of chunin exam had mask. Zabuza Momochi, Gozu and Meizu (Demon brothers), Kumade Toriichi, all of them had Kakashi type masks. Haku had ANBU style mask and Kishimoto kept that detail for all villages ANBU characters. Maybe someone else got this impression like me...?

his mask actually has a sentimental value to it, it was given to him at a very young age his dad gave it to him saying it was made by his mother who died when kakashi was an infant. so its pretty much a keep sake to remind him of his loving family, but not just that tho he also wears it all the time because he's worried people will be so distracted by his pretty face that it will make it difficult for him to accomplish anything without being followed around alot an stared at. and a fun fact in Japanese society if you have a mole on your face or under your lower lip they consider that very attractive. so in short not only is a memento but it saves him from embarrassing situations lmao
