As the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom, the commonwealth, and certain other countries that have since declared independence but decided they kind of like having the Queen on their money, Queen Elizabeth II enjoys a number of unique perks not bestowed on any of her subjects. These include being immune from prosecution from any crime she may happen to commit (justice is served in her name); she cannot be compelled to give evidence in court; she owns all of the dolphins, sturgeons and whales found in British waters (she also technically owns all mute swans found on open waters in Britain); she has the ability to declare war on any other nation if she so desires it; and, most pertinent to the present conversation, she doesn’t need a passport to travel abroad. So why not?

no, despite what some may believe, the president cannot issue a pardon to oneself, and while it is true that the president can't be arrested until after convicted by congress (with the Chief Justice presiding over the senate trial) with 2/3rds votes. Then the judicial process would apply the same way it would to any other citizen.

technically yes, as a provisional licence required to drive is also issued in her name, so she could vouch that the other driver is competent and whether a learner or not, is also under her own instruction and her position gives her the rights of a full licence even though she doesn't technically hold one.

This story is true... A couple of years ago, in the autumn of 2016, I and a small party of friends were cycling around the grounds of the Balmoral Estate, the Highland holiday home of the Queen. Her Majesty graciously allows members of the public, otherwise known as proles, to use the grounds of Balmoral for walking and cycling excursions, limiting that usage, of course, to whatever does not disturb the pursuits of herself and/or her guests. There was a shooting party going on up a hill that we weren't trying to access, so that didn't bother us. However, all day long, we were passed by Range Rovers (all the same colour) on the shooting tracks we were cycling over. Now, when one is out in the country, it is only civil to try to be courteous, so we always waved at these Range Rovers. The tweed jacketed occupants always waved back. It soon became apparent that these people were Royal protection officers, making sure that the proles (ourselves) didn't overstep the mark, whatever that mark might be. By mid afternoon, I was knackered, being unfit and overweight,so I was lying flat out in the heather by the side of the shooting track. The rest of my party were taking a breather as well, leaning on their bikes beside the roadway, when yet another Range Rover (same colour) came tootling along the track. I really couldn't face getting up to wave at it, so I merely raised my head from it's heather bed and waggled my knees at the vehicle. It wasn't until the vehicle was right beside me that I realised that this particular Range Rover was being driven by an elderly lady, who very sensibly did not remove her hands from the steering wheel to acknowledge my greeting, but merely raised two fingers to me. The rest of my party also waved at the occupants of the vehicle and received similar acknowledgement from the driver. After the Range Rover had passed there was a stunned silence for a couple of seconds and then one of our party asked of nobody in particular, 'That was the Queen wasn't it?...' and we agreed that yes, indeed, that was the Queen. This is why I can claim, in all truthfulness, that in over sixty years of my life, the sole contact I have had with Her Majesty the Queen is the time I loyally waggled my knees at her and she graciously acknowledged my gesture by regally raising two fingers to me in reply....

The Crown Estate is actually owned by the British State, the Crown Estates in other Commonwealth realms are owned by the governments of those countries. She does not own the Crown Jewels, none of the royal palaces, not even Buckingham Palace. She doesn't own Windsor Castle, nor Hollyrood House. The furniture, art collections and other valuable items in the palaces is the property of the British State - ie the queen can't sell any of it, it doesn't belong to her. She has got private property in Scotland and England. ps: Does the US President own the White House?

Dead Joker Grab a dictionary and check the definition of the word: Monarch. It means, government by one - there is no need for that 'one' to be a king. In reality of course, the US is run by oligarchs - can you honestly see a poor man every being voted into the Oval Office? Big powerful mega-rich men nominate presidental candidates. Big money supports the campaigns and the providers of that cash expect favours should their man be successful. We don't have that circus here.

I'm simply pointing out that the palaces lived in by members of the Royal Family, and the art collections and other contents are 'owned' by the British State and not by the reigning monarch. Your presidents are in exactly the same position with regard to The White House and any other Federal Government-owned property used by a sitting President. Your comment regarding some imagined difference between the position of resident 'royals' and a president, is irrelevant.

Dead Joker 'class' per se, means very little in the UK today. The power of the hereditary lords was broken decades ago when the majority of them were hoofed out of the House of Lords. Downton Abbey was a foreign to me as it probably was to you, why else were the programmes as popular here as they apparently were in the US. I don't believe half the stuff I am expected to accept is the "American-way-of-life" as portrayed by Hollywood and/or TV programmes. One of the characteristics of GB is we live in an evolutionary society - the monarchy today is very different to that which the Queen inherited. You still have a constitution that was written over two hundred years ago. You final comment is an insult.

As has been mentioned in other threads here, the Kingdom of England stopped existing in 1707 when it unified with Scotland. So while she is often colloquially referred to as the Queen of England, it's actually a historical title that doesn't exist anymore.

Her Majesty does have a sense of humor. Someone I knew was an organ player at one of Her Majesty's events. Her favorite song at the time, was "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" and she asked him to play it. He jokingly asked, "Is that the song with the lyrics 'Will I be pretty?/Will I be rich?' " Her Majesty replied, "Mr. Thompson, you are a very funny man. Just play the song or I will have your head."

Calm down lads.....It was a joke. I need a passport to fly from Belfast (in the UK) to London (in the UK) with Easyjet. I can do it by bus, train, boat and car without anyone asking my name.....but Easyjet insist on the passport. It isn't funny now I've had to explain it. ;-) p.s. - Do I need to explain the other bit? BrianBell4073 you dont need a passport I regularly fly to Belfast from manchester on them for uni and you only need ID for domestic flights, like provisional/full driving licence is fine. Ryanair however need passports for every single flight they do

Oddly Queenie would never had needed to do a driving test anyway because she started driving before driving licenses were made law. When the law was enacted anyone who had already been driving for a few years qualified for a licence automatically. Since she was an official driver she still qualifies.

The queen and the royal family do more then "wave to people" They are a source of pride,tradition and they bring the country (and the commonwealth in general) together by a bonding force. William and harry are involved in many like diana was.The queen and prince charles also have charitable foundations that do work on their behalf with the money they make. They serve as figureheads by gathering big names to push for charities. In other words they use their name and status s means to get people who have large amounts of money to donate when they otherwise would not. Hence why they throw those events for the rich. So they do more then just sit on their asses all day. They are well loved and in a unique position to be able to do so much good for the world. Which they do.

She watches people sign up for Birth Certificates that acquiesce an individual to abide by Maritime-Admiralty jurisdiction, therefore forfeiting their Inalienable/Unalienable rights. 99% of people don't realize what they're truly doing in a certain sense when they beholden themselves to the corporate governmental system. WOW! Imagine all the money that she's saved on passport photos over the last 63 years as the British monarch. Let's see, at $7 or $8 per passport photo, she's already save almost $500. On top of that, no passport fees! That's another few hundred dollars saved! Pretty sure she usually doesn't have to pay for long-haul international first class tickets, so that's several million dollars saved. It must be nice to be the queen! :)

When Air Force One is approaching a foreign airport the monumental American egos insist that all other commercial traffic is grounded disrupting the travel plans of thousands of passengers and costing airlines hundreds of thousands of dollars. The only difference between a US president and the UK Monarch is the method of appointment and the term of office. Both are hugely expensive, privileged positions.

The fact that Her Majesty would make a subtle, distinct, point to The Saudis in the way she did, I find, impressive and highly laudable. The people of The UK may, from time to time, take issue with institutions like the Monarchy vs. a Republic, but they are fortunate to have a Head of State like Queen Elizabeth II. She has been an enduring and endearing part on British history and culture, that they can be rightfully proud of.

The Queen of England would not have a passport because no such person exists. The monarch's title is Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The separate English and Scottish monarchies were abolished by the Treaty of Union in 1707

Not exactly the law is under the queen's name, her word and actions are gospel. She has complete immunity to the law as the law in england as law is in her name. The queen cannot be dethroned, the public can turn against the queen of course, but that is treason - which is the only thing punishable by death in england. The queen/king has ultimate power and influence within england over that of the government, but she never meddles in the country's affairs and just leaves it to the government.

Dude, the queen is *_hilarious_*. Obviously, her sense of duty and history [being an awesome mechanic in the war] colour her action and the way she is perceived by the world but she's still a human being. And every once in a while we get to see that part of her. There are so many images of her being a troll or having a wicked sense of humour. To me, that's the queen I envision. An awesome grandmother (well technically a great grandmother) who gets stuff done but also has fun. That's why ever since I was little I wanted to be a grandmother.

Actually, what I find more surprising is that most heads of state need diplomatic passports of some kind. I always assumed that Presidents and Prime Minsters didn't need them either, but apparently they're subject to the law of the land in a way that Monarchs aren't. At least in theory, anyway.
