My family has three dogs (crazy ik) and the oldest, Cooper, also has a thyroid condition. We don’t over feed him, but he still weighs about 90-100 lbs. The younger two always run around and play while cooper gets tired very quickly and needs rest. He growls when we bring out the leash to go on a walk, and a lot of the time we just let him stay behind while the others go. I feel bad for him, but we still love him and he’s a good dog that just wants some lovin’.

the dog suffers from Hypothyroidism. His body has a low metabolic rate which causes him to gain weight and makes it difficult to lose weight. People suffer from this as well

Joshua Alexander That's not particularly true. Hypothyroidism is very easy to treat. The dog affected would need to be on a prescription that kicks the thyroid into working gear and exercise and a diet should accompany that. It's very similar to a human having it. It's understandable if your dog isn't able to lose weight because he/she may not be on the right meds/dosage or diets. :)

Heather Trash, I think the dog is adorable and it's cool that the airlines accommodate him like that, but I have my doubts as to the legitimacy of his service dog status. Unfortunately many dog / pet owners ordain their dogs with that title without any official approval or certification from the ADA and it's affiliates. I could be wrong about this Guy. Just my intuition is all. Even if he's not legit service animal, he's still a super cool dog.👍🐕

Bicycle Motorsports then he would be called a support dog with you can get a certificate for online not service dogs you can’t say that your dog is a service dog unless he was trained and really certified

Bicycle Motorsports Not trying to be one of those over corrective douche bags and I agree with the doubts on the ‘service dog’ title, but I just wanted to inform you that it states in the ADA that there is no certification or registration for SD’s. The qualification comes with the dog’s training. A dog must earn the title, it is not given. They go through years of work to earn it and health tested and their health is maintained in order for them to do their best work. She’s just trying to distract from the fact that he is the way he is. She’s just misinformed.

Dedra Ambrose uhh no. Even with a strict diet and exercise this dog may not lose much weight. It’s a thyroid issue. Look that up before you tell other ppl what to do.

That dog is not healthy enough to be ethically worked as a service dog. If he himself is disabled it is unfair and dangerous for him to work for another.

Chronically Logical He doesn't have to do a lot of walking or moving around. He just has to let her know when she's going to have a migraine or seizure before she gets hurt. It probably doesn't cause too much of a physical strain to make that cooing noise.

I love this dog and want to pet him so much but there's one thing about him being a Service dog. A Service dog is required to be physically able to walk, so if they have bad knees, or sores they can't be one. He obviously can't walk, therefore being unfit for the job.

Cat Family perhaps he was a service dog before his condition reached this point; and while he no longer has the title ‘service dog’ he can still preform the task of reminding her to take her medication

Cat Family he was probably a service dog before he got sick, so he would still be a service dog.. plus normal dogs can’t ride in a plane like that
