NSU prinz 4! I have owned 2cv's since college, but they are just not that aero, quite high, impractical boot and bonnet space and the drivetrain configuration doesn't lend itself too much for ev conversions. I still wanted to convert my 2cv though, until I discovered the NSU: rear wheel drive with rear motor, boxy spaces in front and back, as narrow as the 2cv but lower and less draggy design choices. Still have to find the time and remaining funds though! But 100Wh/km seems achievable

I swear automakers have just lost the plot. Even 15k is a way too expensive. Cars at that price are always crappy too. We cannot afford these things anymore. I see a growing movement of anti car content all over the internet. If automakers don't provide affordable cars they will just kill themselves. Less and less young people are being born. They cannot afford cars. They have little interest in cars. In a few decades the car market might shrink dramatically

As a student I remember getting blocked in by two cars parking too close front and back at the side of the road. We got back to the 2CV to find it had inches of space front and back, so we just lifted it out. That and my old smart cabrio were the best cars I've ever had (I say "I" - the 2CV was my dad's, he loved it as much as I did).

You rolled it? Then you won a new one! Citroen had a wager about getting one on its roof. Its quite impossible to do that apparently since nobody won the wager..

@@OdyTypeR For deliveries in a city center? Count me in. And 25mph? Unlikely they’d keep it at that. The mopeds I see putt-putting around in, say, Miami, usually go closer to 35mph than the legal max of 30mph. 😋 I guess it’ll depend on the State Yer in.

Tested it when I learned driving in it with my dad : 28 seconds with a bit of wind in the back, 36 seconds heading into the wind.. and a big chance You’d never get at 60mp/h 🤣 (2cv6 Spéciale really was ‘special.. )

Or under £20k for an MEV Cargo, 60 mile range, 50mph max. Big flat back and sides to take branding. But it's not as much of a talking point, and that's the real value of the 2CV I feel.

Same goes for the Xbus from Electric brands. you can add 3 times the basic version. Nice EV. We had a look at it in Germany. Will be build starting the end of 2023 at VDL in Netherlands.

@@popefang No, those EV's are not "useless without them". Many people dont ride a longer distance than 15mls a day. Those cars were build for the people in the small (often mountain region) villages, that only needed to go to the larger towns once or twice times a week. 30mls back and forth was and still is enough for them. Even is 2023, most people do not ride more than 30mls a day, and can charge at home. But for €40k the price is way to high. In 1972, as young starters, we could afford a 2CV. Today, with much more money to spend, we cant afford a €40k car.

In the 1960's we had our bread delivered twice a week in a small van. This CVE looks right for a similar job. Flowers, Bread, Fish, Parcels, etc.

As I understand it from the designer, that was exàctly the point. PR value of a historic car doing deliveries, or even just standing in front of a bussiness, cannot be underestimated. Added to that the relatively cheap running costs of electric. Now waiting for someone that restores and electrifies Morris delivery vans. I bet there’s allready someone bent over the engine compartment of a Morris delivery, pondering how to fit an electric power-package in it.

I doubt that you'd be able to register it. You couldn't register it as a new car because of type approval, and you couldn't register it as an old one, because it's not. This kind of thing is possible in the UK, and was always possible because the UK had a type approval exemption for small/home builders. But they may have been legal in the UK, just not in the rest of continental Europe. And when the UK rejoins the EU, the almost certain probability is that the exemption will be lost, in just the same way as the UK's veto will not b given back. Just another example of how bloody stupid Brexit was.

From the sides it was easy to recognize by the gas fillers which were routed through holes in driver and passenger doors. You were sitting on one gas tank each!

The first bit? Yes. However, the steering wheel collapses nicely. No spearing. (Front-totalled a2cv once) Broke a thumb and got some glass cuts. That was it. Poor Ugly Ducky was a mess of crumpled tin plates. The thing is, it’s só unbelievably light, that the bigger risk is getting catapulted across the lanes, or into a crevasse when hit with a bigger, heavier car. This is true but doesn't work in reality because if Karen is driving the kids (harvey and kyler) to school in the Wankpanzer while doing her makeup then it doesn't matter how carefully you're driving. Still gonna get squished.

The low volume exemption that makes it possibke to sell this specification as a new vehicle is 1000 units/ year I think. High volume production would puch it into the same regulations as a new design so would be basically impossible I imagine. As a hand built car it's not likely the manufacturer intended to find production getting that high though.

Speaking of simpler vehicles, I'd like to see the return of cargo trikes like in the 30's-50's. Harley Davidson Servi-car, Moto Guzzi Mototriciclo 32, Mazda-Go, Daihatsu SB-7, etc. I love them, especially the springer front ends and sprung saddles.

Cupra bourne does 200miles and is 36k and goes over 100mph. On a 55kw battery. Oh btw it's actually safe not like that Citroen. MG4 is only 26k and over 200 mile range for a very basic one. Also if you are in a city you could use a taxi every day spending £41 every trip for a year for 15k Why would you even need a car for a city with taxis, Uber, metro's, buses ect ect. You could save thousands. If you did every upgrade to that car you want to do then add another 20k at least it's just not worth it go and buy a decent new car instead.

CCS might be overkill, but a 6.7kw J1772 might be helpful (and fairly easy to implement).

@@JustWasted3HoursHere J1772 would be no use in the UK. We (and all European countries) use Type 2 on all EVs these days for their AC charging so there's complete compatibility.

The running gear is based on the Electric Eden quadracycle so it’s a shame.

Their website says "Prices estimated to start from £39995.00 +vat", so that's £48,000 before extras.

"Hand made quality" - even hand made quality has limits and some things are not worth having hand made.

Yeah, and heated seats would add bugger all to the weight. Electric adjustable seats would be weighty but the heating element is nothing.

My sleeping bag keeps me warm all night in winter just off my body heat, there's no need to add all the extra weight of seat warmers when your body could do that job in 5 minutes! Lifting 10kg up a 100m hill uses the same energy as lifting 1000kg up a 1m hill - I'd rather just save the weight, and the energy used in the manufacturing side. Manufacturers should at least give us the *option*. When I was a kid, if you had seat warmers in your car it meant you were rich, but the rest of us Poors still coped without them ok! 😂

@@pau1phi11ips Some years ago on an episode of Top Gear they had to strip cars down to reduce their weight - I remember Richard Hammond saying how surprised he was in how heavy the seat heating element was. Yes having electric seat adjustment is just a bloody extravagance.

@@JackScarlett1 Every time I've been in a car where someone wanted to put on the seat warmers it was because their precious tooshie was just a tad on the cold side. They seemed to get a special thrill from having their seat become warm, bit like having a foot spa I suspect, nothing to do with preventing frost bite to rear end. People will light up a patio heater rather than stick a sweater on - think that's the issue generally.

In the 1980s, the ADAC had several small cars, including a duck, crash into a wall at 30 km/h with a dummy as the driver. The duck crumpled at about the height of the windshield. The dummy survived, but I would not like to experience something like that live and in color as a human being.
