And the said island itself is also far larger in the books than the show version and it's also an volcanic island that being the primary reason why the freehold chose it as their base in westeros and of course it has a sizable town near dragonstone keep which more or less disappeared in the show, like seriously it looked like the island hadn't been inhabited for decades😅.

The islands size is what I was most disappointed about with it in the show, the design of the castle itself is still pretty cool and grand but the island looks like all it is is the castle, it doesn’t have any villages like in the book, it doesn’t have any capacity for war whatsoever whilst in the book it had hundreds of soldiers and the capacity to feed thousands of men which is where stannis’ army came from at the start of the war

Well we’ve seen the castle and volcano. I think the small fishing village is going to be on the other side of the volcano. I’m sure they’ll make dragonstone seem a lot bigger in HOTD season 2 (especially because of the dragon seeds storyline). They did a great job expanding the island in season 1 compared to Dragonstone in GOT. They never even showed the volcano in GOT which is shocking.

I think in the future once the books are actually done, the series should be rebooted as a highly detailed animated series so that way it can be more accurate. Because there’s just many parts in the series that can’t be filmed by live action. Including parts where characters are underage and such. The series is very adult and there’s only so much that can be done when it comes to making sets and costumes and such.

My dream in life is that Game of Thrones got adapted into a highly detailed Anime series that lasts thousands of episodes. "I resent your implication, Swyft," Mace Tyrell said, bristling. "No wealth was found on Dragonstone, I promise you. My son's men have searched every inch of that damp and dreary island and turned up not so much as a single gemstone or speck of gold. Nor any sign of this fabled hoard of dragon eggs." Kevan Lannister had seen Dragonstone with his own eyes. He doubted very much that Loras Tyrell had searched every inch of that ancient stronghold. The Valyrians had raised it, after all, and all their works stank of sorcery. And Ser Loras was young, prone to all the rash judgments of youth, and had been grievously wounded storming the castle besides. But it would not do to remind Tyrell that his favorite son was fallible. "If there was wealth on Dragonstone, Stannis would have found it," he declared. "Let us move along, my lords. We have two queens to try for high treason, you may recall. My niece has elected trial by battle, she informs me. Ser Robert Strong will champion her." -ADWD, Epilogue

The show version reminds me of star forts around the world in real life on Earth. In the books it was so cool. Every building was a dragon and even the kitchens were a curled up dragon amd the smoke from the ovens came out its nostrils! I also believe the well at dragonstone had a secret entrance similar to the red keeps well and the well at the Night Fort. In ACOK in the first 5 pages Shireen mentions seeing Dalla and a guy called Maurice standing at the well. Maurice/Mance perhaps. and Dalla/Rhaella or Ashara maybe? Dalla ends up with Mance and Val...There is some secret hidden in those characters in the books....

Personally, I prefer the look of Dragonstone in the show as to how it is described in the books, I always found the descriptions of dragonstone pulled me out of my suspension of disbelief when its incredibly impractical and physically unlikely design is brought up, I know the Valyrians are supposed to be magic, but for me all the dragon statues and gargoyles are too much. I think the design in the show still clearly demonstrates a Valyrian level of technology beyond that of the regular Westerosi whilst still clearly giving off the language that this was originally the seat for a very minor Valyrian family, the castle is stark and more practical which is appropriate for what the Valyrian empire would have needed such a structure for, as more of a waypoint between the lands of the western barbarians and their freehold. The castle is still alien and impressive, but also looks like a formidable realistic castle in its own right instead of a magic disneyesque castle.

They really have to make something animated for this series so we can see all the cool shit in full accurate glorious detail.

It looks good in the show, I just wish we ever saw the inside of the castle besides the council chamber and throne room. Definitely looks better than Winterfell.

One of the best things the show did was lean away from these fabtastical descdiptions to more grounded aesthrtics. It makes the fanatasy pop more and the themes hit harder. I knoq thia is unpopular but i feel its one of the core reasons the show was such a hig

Gonna b honest, dragonstone looks very nice in the series as well, has that "dark fortress" vibe, and thats what its supposed to be.

I like Dragonstone. It actually has the shape of a fortress. Those star-shaped walls would be inmpossible.

It’s been a while since I read the books. Does anyone know who made the Painted Table? I know Aegon Targaryen I had it made but, I was curious who physically designed and built it. Having a skilled cartographer and woodworker would have been quite useful to an invading army that wasn’t familiar with the territory that they were try to invade.

I think it was done through magic. To be able to create such detail on such a large scale (I always think of the table as being around 100 feet long) would be practically impossible for a master woodcarver or a master cartographer

Lots of people are mentioning how the show's version of the castle looks so bland or boring, and the reason for that, is because the producers had a lot of trouble finding a good location for the castle's CGI, George himself said that it was one of the most difficult locations to do for the show. In the end both he and the producers settled on what we see now in the show, the beach of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

Imagine an open world game of the Seven Kingdoms etc. Similar to Hogwarts Legacy and RDR2.. You get to pick which family to be a part of, and depending on choices and battles/wars, you could end up being a King or Queen. It would probably take 10 years to make it but would be worth it.

Still a very cool tradition look. I mean I guess they didn’t want to make everything look too fantastical why would people build like that. Making statues of dragons ya but humans would never think to build craze like that. I thought it made it more believable
