Ashoka built his most magnificent stupa in Sanchi. But why did he build the stupa in Sanchi, which was never visited by Buddha nor had it any direct connection with any Buddhist philosophy?

Nowadays most of the historian like sanjeev sanyal . Give the argument regarding the conversation of ashoka into Buddhism was never due to the empathy he felt regarding the massacre he made. The reasons where pretty political and also there are evidence of him doing much more violence even after accepting Buddhism. Please if possible also cover your thoughts on this part.

So, Madam Devi (Emperor Ashoka's wife) was essentially the superintendent/manager supervising this project, right? I wonder if there is an image/statue of Her for veneration. I feel gratitude toward Emperor Ashoka and Madam Devi.

Ashoka built 84000 stupas all over india not just sanchi..most of them destroyed by brahmanists and Muslim's.
