James Low • Dzogchen and Buddhist Teachings

8 жыл бұрын

25 February 2016. This is a film of James Low teaching in London at the invitation of Shang Shung Institute.
“Awakening to the fact of there being nothing frees us from the endless quest for something. Our problem is the seeming ‘thing-ness’ of things, our sense that we exist as some-thing in a world of many different things. The reification which imputes a real and enduring substance to phenomena is a deluding mental process. When we do not rely on this process as a means of generating meaning, then the actuality of phenomena is seen to be unfolding revelation. This revelation is the flow of experience, concrete and precise, each moment with its own unique specificity yet with no-'thingness' to grasp on to. Thus the anxious self can cease attempting to take refuge in illusory things and relax into the space of unfolding.”

James is an example for us, the western practitioners of the Buddha's teachings who aspire to real understanding and lived experience. These are not translated teachings, they flow right from the source. It's a very encouraging thing to see a man like this, a beacon of wisdom in the seeming gloom of the world filled with wannabe gurus, self proclaimed experts and those who simply parrot the words heard from others.

James low has such a mastery of language Then the stand up comedian that is the conceptualising process, decides that this wisdom is now my wisdom and can be passed on as my understanding. As he points out the ego cannot enter the gate and nor is it damned to hell.

I look for more teachings from James Low. I can sense the deep roots of Dzogchen begun in Loving Kashmir while it has the clarity of Buddhism. Low is a very good teacher in this way. Thanks.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I ask of those who heard this years ago and were inspired by the presentation if the learning went beyond being uplifted and/or comforted by the ideas and into the embodied experience, where one feels the insight so thoroughly that there is no sense of having to keep reminding oneself with quotes and such. Has the old identity fallen away? TY.
