I wish Serie A players weren't talked as a step up to be EPL player. As much as the outside interest in Victor Osimhen makes me proud of what he has accomplished, his undying loyalty to Napoli, his passionate support for anything his teammates accomplish alongside him, and the relationship he has now established with fans and the entirety of Naples is something that no club could ever match, and remains commonplace with every star striker (and player in general) that has set foot in Naples. Just look at how hard it was for the likes of Jorginho and Koulibaly to part with the club over the course of many years. That just shows you how much of a lasting impression this club leaves as a permanent imprint on a footballer's career and identity. I also want Napoli fans to finally enjoy this squad as it currently stands beyond this miraculous season, and I am admittedly sick of other fans telling the Partenopei to enjoy what they have before their squad gets torn apart by the clubs they support, as if Napoli was never a storied club before Osimhen, and as if Napoli won't continue to be a storied club after him. I want Napoli fans to relish Osimhen as a core part of this new crop of legendary players for this club, which has worked decades to move past having to adhere to a legacy of life after Maradona that has pressured them into complacency. It finally feels like more than a breath of fresh air to know that there is more than just life after Maradona for Napoli, but a newfound identity that has made people realize why a club like Napoli matters in football as a whole, and Osimhen plays such a huge role in cultivating the current culture surrounding this club, that I believe him staying will create something much more special than the departures we expect from typically storied clubs who house revolving doors of world class number 9s (see Atletico Madrid). There is also the reality of who Aurelio de Laurentiis is during a transfer window that will make any offer for Osimhen extremely difficult for him to accept, as he has been known to hold onto a set of core players for many years before finally deciding to rebuild the squad itself. I personally hope that he stays as long as Dries Mertens did, albeit parting the club on better terms than what was poorly communicated over the last summer window, even if that ended up being for the better of the club moving forward.
