I think there are lots of subtleties to this question. In short, I think sports as we know it will not be replaced by robot athletes because the draw of sport is to wonder at human achievement. Seeing a robot go faster or dribble a ball is, at this moment in time amazing, but would quickly become boring because our expectation is that they can do more. Our expectations of humans is that they can't do much more so we are surprised and amazed when people push that boundary. One other point I'd make is that there is a difference between sport and games. Sport requires human athleticism (yes, even darts and snooker require finesse even if they don't require strength or stamina). I think that's what elevates sports as a special class of games. That's why a robot playing football would be a game but not a sport. There could well be a lot of people who want to watch that but it will not be the same. The AI coach is an interesting angle but I think there is an even quicker innovation that could be just around the corner and that's the AI tactician who has access to all the data within the game in real time and can suggest to the team manager/coach on what they should do next (e.g. in football they can suggest to send up another striker, change the formation, adjust the tempo etc).

AI could NEVER take over anything that is primarily driven by emotion. That's why it would never take over sports. I love Ronaldo because he came from a poor family background and lived through hardship, worked extremely hard to become a legend, and has love and respect for his mother and father and his family. Please explain how THAT feeling for an athlete could be generated for a robot player. Even players who are nowhere near as talented as Ronaldo have hundreds of thousands of fans because of their background, personality (on and off the field), their looks, unique playstyle, etc. NONE of that can be replicated authentically by a robot. A robot will just be a unit on the field used to win a match.
@mtk3755
@mtk3755 Жыл бұрын
Sport performance is not primarily driven by emotions. And one day ai robots would also be driven by emotion maybe not authentic. That's going to happen ultimately. Also looks play style personality all can be programmed. First few robots will be a unit but as ai tech improves there might exist a day you won't even know that the player is ai robot or human. People would have to accept ai robots with time. Also I don't see anyway why fifa will not integrate football and ai robots. They don't care about robots not having authentic emotions and stuff.
@torachan23
@torachan23 Жыл бұрын
@@mtk3755 I never said sport performance is primarily driven by emotions. Please show me where I did. AI will never be driven by AUTHENTIC emotions, which will make it pale in comparison to real authentic human emotions. Your argument of "everything will be programmed" is meaningless when everything that is programmed will not be authentic, and never viewed the same way as authentic looks, play styles, and emotions will be. And reaching the point where a real person is indistinguishable from a robot is DANGEROUS. If that happens, eventually no real human would ever play professional sports at all. That will never happen though, because at best, a robot can only mimic a real human; the sporting experience will always be different with robots than it would be with humans.
@Umair114ahmed
@Umair114ahmed Жыл бұрын
That's a great point. While these robots may be great for entertainment, they wont attract as much attention and passion as real players do. If sports do end up going that way, its not gona be fun. At least, for those who've seen the real players play. The next generation may still find it entertaining, but the whole sport will be very different.
@TheRealDarth_Vader
@TheRealDarth_Vader Жыл бұрын
@@mtk3755 sports is driven by performance and emotion that's why people Support specific teams get excited for specific derbies, fondly remember certain players, talk trash about other teams this goes for any sport that why players like mj, Kobe, shaw, steph curry, Maradona, messi, Ronaldo etc are idolised yes they performed but their was a passionate and competitive togetherness and emotionally packed moments that made the fans bond with and even idolise these people robots can bring performance but everything else would be missing I doubt it would work but we'll see
@mtk3755
@mtk3755 Жыл бұрын
@@torachan23 yes ai won't have authentic emotions but I don't think people would really care about authentic emotions when they'd be surrounded by ai robots. People will be used to ai robots. I never said the things programmed will be authentic. But what I meant is all these things can be programmed and what I feel is with time people will have to accept this. Even if the look style all are not authentic. Well I agree that time where both are indistinguishable will be scary but there's a possibility of that. Though that should never happen. I actually think there will be an amalgamation of human and ai players in football and people would have accept that. Though the popularity of sport will go down definitely. People will not find it real and authentic and they would have other things to do virtually. Also do you really think fifa and top clubs will care whether it's authentic or not? I don't think so.

To be honest, natural sport is uncertain and that's what makes it so exciting! Being a fan of a real person which you can follow is also important. AI will never able to have a "personality" in the sports which makes it so exciting. But I'm just a middle school, who am I to say?

That'll probably mark the day I lose interest in football if I'm perfectly honest, because then the love of the sport would dwindle, people already complain that football is becoming artificial and robotic but imagine it with actual robots, this current world cup from a footballing standpoint proved to me why I love football and why I've followed this sport since I was very young, it's the unpredictability and the drama that has me tied down for the long haul, get rid of that and it becomes soulless imo

AI and digitalization in motorsport is already implemented in simulations, sim racing and algorithms that predict strategy. The evolution of that is already promising, but I don't agree with the notion of drivers racing remotely, f1 already has an eSports championship for that, its entertaining yes, but keep the driving real, sure rots can help, like I said they already do, but not to the extent you envision. This is a super interesting video though, great dive into the relationship between high tech and high sports, well done as always.

A robot cannot be hated, revered, loved, respected, blamed, or misjudged like a real human could. That is part of why Ronaldo is so famous. Many people love him, many people hate him. The whole point of sport is seeing other humans doing something you can't do. Unless you create a robot category and then different robotic companies compete against each other, that would be fun to watch for some people. Ronaldo busted his knee live during a game when he played for Inter and after months of recovery what seemed to be impossible, he won the world cup later. How boring would it be with robots that never get hurt and don't have a story of suffering and overcoming. We watch sports for the story of overcoming.

All the AI has to do to win football games, is to send perfectly aimed throughballs to a robot making a perfectly timed run (to avoid offside) and score.

Personally I would never watch a game with robot athletes, it would take all emotion from the sport. Now the training part, I think this is inevitable.

We watch football because of the players and the dynamics that exists between them and the competitions. Football is entertainment people. It’s a business, and if there is no entertainment then there is no business, and it’s not possible to not have a business. It’s like saying we will watch series on Netflix in which there are only robots acting. You can’t have that, hence football will not disappear, because we need characters, some of them more talented and some not so talented, and that’s what makes it entertaining.

Can you pls make a video explaining why EA Sports are no longer going to make FIFA footbal games. There has been a massive dispute with some high profile players saying they have never given permission for their image and name to be used...EA Sports responded by saying they were given those rights by FIFA....but now have decided to discontinue with the FIFA game franchise.

How dare you. I was planning on building a robot Ronaldo when I mastered coding and robotics. But tbh I don't doubt many people had this idea

I was thinking about the same that when ai robots enter football how would it be and would people be interested or football's popularity will go down. Personally I think people are living in denial that it's not going to happen or they can't replace human players but with time these things are bound to happen. Would be interesting to see could ai robots successfully become better than human players or not. And how would the sport be then, maybe people will stop watching football or maybe they'd stay. I feel if ai robots are accepted in football, the line between human players and ai players will become thinner and we'd see more of a amalgamation of both. This concept was already explored in a football anime inazuma eleven. Good video though exploring less talked about topics. Though seeing the title thought of haaland.
