It took me years to finally figure out how to eat enough without feeling too overstuffed all the time. When your small, you gotta get your body used to eating more and carrying around more weight. For awhile you just have to let yourself be fat, and gradually you’ll sculpt it out if you go hard in the gym. *don’t worry about “cutting” until you get strong*
@MrSplcrazyАй бұрын
He's misrepresnting or misunderstanding maingaining. Maingaining is keeping your bodyfat % the same not keeping your body weight the same. As you gain muscle your body fat % will naturally drop below 15% so increase calories slightly to stay at 15%. It does require a very very small surplus. But a bulk requires an increase in bodyfat
@J-W_GrimbeekАй бұрын
My thoughts too. Caloric maintenance is *calories in = calories out*, and obviously the calories it takes to build muscle are included in that equation as part of calories out. It's not like eating at maintenance means halting muscle growth because of lack of calories, but it DOES halt fat gain

Depends on your definition of gaintain: you can approximately maintain your bodyfat percentage and gain from 150 to 180. But can't without a surplus.
@pierrea3094Ай бұрын
Yeah no if you’re going to gain 30lbs I can pretty much assure you it will not even close to be all muscle that’s just an absurd thing to claim. You have to gain, cut a bit to get back down to a good body fat, gain a bit more and that cycle continues forever if you want to keep putting on muscle and not be pudgy.
@pietpadda593Ай бұрын
@@pierrea3094 you can gain that 30lbs without gaining any significant bodyfat percentage without needing a cut, it just takes longer and more patience. Most people are impatient, rush the bulk and are then forced to cut. That's the whole purpose of maingaining: not needing a cut, or an insignificant one for that matter
@pietpadda593Ай бұрын
@@pierrea3094 ie if you train hard and only gain ~1kg/month average, you're good. now to qualify: training must be consistent and hard...
@rigortortoise7297Ай бұрын
Trying to gaintain 30 pounds of muscle is going to be nearly impossible naturally. Some people won’t even be able to build that much muscle (naturally) just doing the typical bulk/cut method.
@pietpadda593Ай бұрын
@@rigortortoise7297 30 pounds is not impossible. Maybe in a short period yes, but in 2+ years? Very doable. The gains will taper off slowly, depending heavily on your genetics, height, frame, activity history etc. But we're talking about 30lbs maintaining bodyfat %. So say you stayed at 20%, 30lbs gain would be 24lbs muscle. That's easily doable. I gained about 30kg from my lightest (skinny 68kg) and ended at a slightly lower bodyfat %. Took about 5-6 years. Currently at 95kg. Now, another 10kg or more? That's insane to imagine naturally, maybe close in another 5 years. Don't think I can though.

@markolim8938Ай бұрын
Not true. There are 3 situations you will gain muscle without caloric surplus: 1. Being a beginner 2. Coming back from a break (months&years) 3. Using anabolic steroids.
@D-Fit2 ай бұрын
When they say you have to eat more. Increase your food intake. They dont talk about being in a 500-1000 calorie surplus. You only need a 50-250 calorie surplus to start gaining weight and most of it will be muscle and not fat. If you are going to "bulk" on 500+ calories above maintenance youre just going to get fat and all the muscle you build will be lost in the cut. Build your muscle slowly over time and keep you fat % the same. Idealy would be in the 12-20% range. Some can stay fairly lean. Others like myself need to be at 18% to have all the energy you need to build the muscle. Remember, youre not reaching you genetic limit within 1-5 years. On average it takes 10 years of consistency to reach your genetic limit. I was still growing and getting stronger well in my 30's and i started at 13 years old. Now at 37 im trying to maintain what i have build and that can be done on simply maintenance calories.

The recent research does show that a caloric surplus for 200-350 calories every day is the most efficient for muscle gain. Any further surplus will result in the formation of fat tissue. Cause: This is because the limit of how much muscle you can gain reguarly. If you exceed that limit ie, 200-350 calories a day. The rest is a surplus beyond the surplus of gaining lean mass.
@iangraham-white5717Ай бұрын
congrats, you have discovered lean bulking… now will you eat more?
@JackBowman-vs6kvАй бұрын
you’ll gain both muscle and fat tissue no matter what. The size of the surplus just determines how much your body will build of what. A lower surplus will result in less fat tissue, but not zero. The margins are more so the problem. Even if you’re really good at counting calories, you’ll always be dealing with a plus/minus. And even if you weight yourself each week under as many of the same conditions as possible, it will take longer to know for sure if you’re truly in a surplus because you could very well be a pound heavier than you were two weeks ago just because you consumed more sodium yesterday. I think generally speaking it’s easier to spend two or three more weeks cutting each time then to run the risk of not actually being in a surplus for an extended period of time.
