Incorporating myth, history and contemporary investigation, Bernstein tells the story of how human beings have become intoxicated, obsessed, enriched, impoverished, humbled and proud for the sake of gold. From the past to the future, Bernstein′s portrayal of gold is intimately linked to the character of humankind.

It is starkly telling that early civilizations found and processed gold, replicated pyramid structures, had creation stories of multiple gods who taught humans technology and rules to live by. Human history is grossly inaccurate. The people across earth were connected thousands of years prior to Columbus’ boat trip. And the human bones that are hundreds of thousand years old!! We hardly can find truth in what was happening during the dynastic epyptian’s age.

I speak Vietnamese, where there is a separate word for "gold", while all other metals can generically be labelled "gold kind". *This originally stemmed from ancient Chinese notions of metallurgy where the alchemy of trying to achieve gold was the ultimate goal. So the very belief that gold was its own thing - and other elements secondary to it - ended up spreading around the region as a whole.*

Becuse it is useless, silver and copper are better for electronic use then gold could ever be, and there is penalty of them both. Half of All gold mined is gos to jewelry and artistic uses, and monetary value, even those silver is better as a store of wealth. While half of all silver goes to industrial use.

The reason gold originally became so important was because it was meant for the gods. And because so many chiefs...pharoahs...kings...emperors etc thought themselves to be decended from the gods it became important to men. All the way back to the earliest civilization we currently know of. The Sumerians.

Gold became a thing because it has the characteristics of money . Before gold we had barter , and barter has the problem of the coincedence of wants . Wich means when i want to trade a closet ( problem whit the closet is : its not portable . Not divisible , i cannot make change whit it ) for food . Then i have the problem or this guy wants to have this closet or not . If he want to have it , then you get the food . Then when you have the food and you want to trade what you have to much ( the next problem , food is not durable . So you need to eat all of it whitin a certain date or trade it before it rots ) . So , we have now learned that money need to have certain characteristics to be money. 1: money must be a medium of exchange 2: a unit of account ( in weight or numbers ) . 3: it must be durable ( it May not rot or decay ) 4: it must be portable ( easy for transport and hold it into your pocket ) 5: it must be divisible ( if my coin has more value then the product , then i need change in return ) 6: it must be fungible ( interchangeable, it means that each coin is the same in valeu so that my 1 ounce gold coin buys the same as the next 1 ounce gold coin ) 7: it must be a store of value ( money must be a store of value over long periods of time , not changing in purchasing power ) . And this is the problem we have today , we dont use money. We use currency , and fiatcurrency only have 6 of the 7 traits . Fiatcurrency,s are prone to inflation because you can print it infinitly , to much currency in circulation creates inflation and loss of purchasing power. Thats why gold remains the ultimate money , it cant be printed and therefore no inflation and loss of purchasing power.

What is incredible, using todays technology makes 5.5 tons of gold per year from one mine. Compared to the Romans mine 5 tons per 200 years of mining from one mine. He says, "in those days the gold was scarce and the gold barons owned everything." Perhaps they still do, as nothing has changed except gold's production levels. After all there's nothing new under the sun until the age old problems are won and done.

@NOTTHASAME
@NOTTHASAME 4 жыл бұрын
First of all , there's no such place as "ancient Egypt" . The entire middle East was kmown as Alkebulan , it includes Egypt , Iran , Iraq , Syria , India , Israel and more , this was your ancient Egypt before the lines were drawn in the sand. Alkebulan was ruled by 18 dynastic kings and queens but historians don't want this to be known because it would give credit to blacks and history would have to be rewritten. They told about one king of the time , king Tut but there were many more. The evilness arrived and killed over 50 million black Jews and this led to a mass exodus of people to escape the slaughter , this was written about in the book of Exodus in the bible. This world has hated the black people throughout history because evil hated anything of God and God called these people his people. As God told Moses to tell the person that had them in captivity to LET HIS PEOPLE GO , Pharaoh was not willing to do so and God chastised him. Satan hated anything of God because God sent the angels to destroy him and locked him out of heaven.

right, imagine you have the level of technology to cross between stars, why would you take gold from some monkeys? gold is not that rare ouside of earth, and you probably have far better things to do than playing with monkeys, this just shows how self centered and primitive human thinking is...

@vihnu 2 жыл бұрын
@@HCqvintus This has yet to be proven. Gold yes may be more plenty in planetoids or failed protoplanets, but is it accessible with ease. No no its not. Our sphere of life has few fundamental difrences. We have atmosphere, tolerable temperature, and liquid water. Liquid water is a requirement in every industrial metal mining process known to man. Without it we would not have industrial access that we do now.

Sounds very likely, except that Earth would be one of the worst places to go if you wanted gold and have the option of mining it elsewhere in space. It's scarcity on Earth doesn't hold true across the universe, there's known asteroids with more gold and other precious metals than the entire planet but yeah we're currently limited to what's available here. The day someone manages to successfully get at it they will be the richest person ever so people are obviously looking at it with dollar signs in their eyes but yeah it's not possible, yet. Or if it ever will be because i don't really remember how far away those floating moneymakers are, just that we've seen them, so it's potentially impossible to actually get there depending on the maximum limit of physics regardless of how much we try.

Gold does not make you rich. It preserves your purchasing power that's all. Place £1K of cash in a draw for 5-10 years and see if you can 'buy' the same stuff with toilet paper currency. 1 ounce of gold will still buy the same amount of stuff in a decade. It accounts for the inflation of the toilet paper currency supply that is backed by zero. Simple really...

There's an old movie from the 1940s called Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and in the film a character explains why gold is valuable. He says basically that it's rare and the labor required to find and extract it make it valuable. Nowadays it's still rare, but it takes lots of energy to find it, extract it and to refine it. And energy prices are going up.
