I remember when I was excited for Strive and knew nothing about fighting games (all id done was a little mashing in DBFZ for the switch, and that was mostly just practicing Sbroly combos lmao) i gave Xrd a quick download and tried some characters, and when i booted up elphelt and got to her shotgun stance, i was like "oh neat, you have some followups and can actually reload to fire another shell, i wonder how fast it lets you do it" and even then i was shook when i realized the answer was "basically as fast as you can input it" i was like how is that not busted??

First, she's only really hated outside of Japan (Main competitive scene in Xrd). Most japanese tier lists consider her a mid-high tier, but not an actual top tier character. (Very based) Second, you CAN block during stance, she's not Leo, lmao, one of the main reasons her SG pressure is good is that you can't easily burst it, because she can easily block it after reload by going from 7 to 8, which doesn't move her, bc she can't jump in the stance, so you can still charge the shot while blocking someone's burst. Anyway, I'm happy for Elphelt haters that my fave character is now just a Noel Vermilion function character in Strive.

Funny seeing the bit where you hit Millia fS vs crouch when trying to explain the combo conversion thing lol. I get it in the end but it's one of the couple situations where she does legit get to convert. If you ask me the main reason people seem to HATE Elphelt is just that a lot of pro players hated Elphelt very vocally, like Kizzie Kay and, well, you. So that hate spreads around and is then, now, repeated by people who have never bothered trying to learn how to IB her strings, or worse, have never even fought her to begin with. She's strong as hell, but literally every one of her strengths that she has, Johnny just legit does better, but he's not complained about nearly as much because pro players didn't complain about him nearly as much. The one TRULY wack thing she has is pineberry explosion overwriting hitstun cmon man it's supposed to be a punish but sometimes she just gets out of combos for free, real fun. It's probably the only thing I'd change about her if I had to, besides just lowering damage on command grab or something

Speaking on the concept at 5:00, where getting full combos off of everything makes the character easier to use their gameplan, I agree wholeheartedly. I played mostly Leo in Xrd, and this is why. I liked Ky and Millia too, but it was so much harder to figure out how to route in the moment based on poke spacing to try to get your setplay going. Leo just did rekkas into backturn oki anywhere on screen, and i could RC stuff into an air combo with a restand if i wanted to. I sucked at the game, but Leo carried me. I feel like this concept is true in every game, and i felt it in street fighter too, but in Xrd it was night and day difference. The speed and complexity of the game made it so that having a reliable bnb that started your gameplan from a midscreen max range 5k was *so* valuable. That was the biggest barrier to entry for Millia imo: and still is in strive. If you drop a combo, she gets almost no reward. Its very punishing.

Strive is so different. Personally, I loved Ram in Xrd, but I do not play her in strive. Never liked Testament before, they're my main now. it's just different.

A couple things I want to add. With the grenade if you threw it and did super, the grenade would continue to travel through the screen freeze giving her a huge damage option to contest you trying to contest her. The most egregious thing IMO is the shot gun stance charged fire not being able to be blitzed at the very edge of the shot. That move should have been the metric for blitz across the game, it is unacceptable that this range in particular from a shot gun has a range that is immune to the close projectile negation mechanic. Blitz should have been a powerful tool to contest that pressure and it just wasn't because of that.

Coming from Blazblue/Melty blood/Fighterz/ect... The ability to combo or setup after just about any hit seems perfectly normal to me, which is probably why the only strong opinion I have about her is that I tend not to play characters that have "tee hee, I tripped" looking gameplay.

looking at the Starter guide, she plays like... NOEL VERMILLION FROM BB??? THANK GOD its not HC 2, but chain combos is kinda weird, cuz i havent played BB that much so i dont know how they work or how to exploit it, but im pretty sure all those Noel mains have their moment to shine
