Even if voldy wasn’t prejudiced and wanted hermione, she wouldn’t have left harry. Hermione would lose a 1v1 duel against bellatrix anyway. Who ever said that Hermione wasn’t smart? She obviously memorized spells we as people have to memorize things like basic math etc. However it’s her execution that showcases her pure skill in magic, that at all can’t be ignored. As Ron stated best “we wouldn’t last 3 days without Hermione.”

Who planned their escape from Gringotts in a matter of moments? Who planned their escape from the wedding? Erm let’s see in the Order of the Phoenix she stopped Harry from being under the EXCREUCIATING PAIN of the Cruciatus Curse by luring umbridge into the forbidden forest? She reads her books I admit but... if she knows when to apply what part of her extensive knowledge. Yes, she paid attention in herbology but when her friend was dying she immediately started thinking and because she was quick witted she could recall the exact part of herbology book that she needed and coming from a straight A student that’s not what easy at all. She found out about lupin when NO ONE else did. Where are the ravenclaws now huh? Then she found out about the basilisk and then found out how he was moving through the school. There’s a reason she’s the BRIGHTEST student of her age not SMARTEST or do you need a dictionary. People have this false assumption that all good students are only good bc they study not bc they are smart. That’s bs even I suffer with that a lot but I’ve proved to ppl and so has hermione. Hi... No one ever considers the effects of generations of pureblood inbreeding does to the stability of the magical gene. In their efforts to maintain blood purity, Purebloods were actually weakening the strength of the magical gene. In other words, causing a genetic defect (Squibs. non-magical children). Often a Squib child was put to death. An example was when Neville's uncle dropped him out a high bedroom window. But Neville bounces, like a baby duckling leaving it's best, instead of dying to prove he was magical. Those families, that didn't execute their Squid child, often condemned then to lower class status in the magical world, even lower than a house elf. At first chance, the child would leave for to muggle world to make a life for themselves. I believe this is how muggleborns began, as well as the first conflicts between magicals and muggles, who won and drive magicals into hiding, because they knew many magical secrets and weaknesses.

There are also stories of children being found in the forest and raised to adulthood. Centuries ago in parts of Europe, if parents thought a child too weak or they couldn't feed it, they would leave it outside in the woods to die. So that's another morbid way your theory could work.

@@darkacademiavanessa Squibs leave the magical world for the muggle world. They get married, have children. Their genes get passed down. 2 descendants from 2 difference Squibs come together. The genes merge and activate. Now you have a MUGGLEBORN, born of pureblood genes, but with defect repaired; make them more powerful than both original gene families. Riddle, Jr aka Voldemort is a causality of a pureblood mother impregnated by a muggle descendent of a Squib.

Several things to remember, when separating Hermione's history and character from the Dark Lord's: 1) Hermione did not have one fraction of the loveless, dysfunctional upbringing that Tom Riddle did, which no doubt warped his personality in the extreme. On the contrary, her home life and family were almost boringly stable, and she was willing to make shocking sacrifices for the sake of her family's safety (i.e. Obliviation) while Tom Riddle openly murdered several members of his own family. 2) Hermione's ancestry, similarly, was not as "tainted" as Tom Riddle's, as no one in the Granger household seems to have been afflicted by centuries of inbreeding. The Gaunts, including Riddle, seem to have been born nuts, to begin with, on top of their tormented child-rearing practices. 3) Hermione's personal experience of having to "work twice as hard to be counted as equal" has no doubt altered her perspective in precisely the opposite way from Tom Riddle's, in that she was never led to believe she was part of a privileged class, or had anything come to her without hard work. She would, as a consequence, favor wizards who'd "come up the hard way" in the same fashion, rather than being outrageous natural talents. She certainly wouldn't form an elitist cadre like the Death Eaters, whom she kept in line by spoon-feeding them her personal knowledge. If anything, Hermione would be something like Master Yoda, being mistrustful of undisciplined geniuses and demanding that students hunker down, learn control, and not cut corners. 4) Lastly, Hermione isn't exactly a "charismatic" figure, but naturally humble, retiring, and hardworking in a way that a man like Dumbledore had to *teach* himself to be. She was certainly not a glamorous revolutionary like Grindelwald, or a manipulator like Voldemort. This would preclude her seizing power in quite the same way, by forming an army and revolting. At most, she might have started a bureaucratic revolution or sorts, from inside an institution like Hogwarts or the Ministry of Magic, and done it very quietly over the course of many years. Overall, while I agree that Hermione's raw power has been badly underestimated, and that she has the work ethic to make the most of it, her personality differences are so different from Voldemort that they have almost nothing in common. And THAT was why she didn't follow nearly the same path.

Personally, I've always felt like Harry would become a portly Head of Magical Law Enforcement. Hermione would briefly work her way quickly through the ranks of the Minister for Magic support staff but quit before achieving Minister, then she'd become the Muggle Studies professor at Hogwarts then become the first Muggle Studies professor to become Headmistress of Hogwarts. Ron flying instructor at Hogwarts. Neville would become the muscle-bound hotshot Auror on the frontline of stopping dark wizards of the future. Ginny Weasley wouldn't change imo. After some time in Dementor-less Azkaban, Delphini, with frequent visits from Harry, Scorpius and Severus; eventually rehabilitates and becomes Neville's apprentice in the Aurors. Neville and Delphini suppress the likes of Theodore Nott as well as Crabbe and Goyle who all become dark wizards but mostly fight among each other for leadership of other purebloods. Draco becomes a reknowned peacock breeder vehemently respected among the peacock enthusiast community.

I’ve always thought that while Hermione was even greater than the position of Minister and perhaps deserved something more meaningful, it seems both more plausible and more impressive for her to tackle such a thing when you consider her values and priorities, namely house elf advocacy. In my opinion her values would’ve been a major driving factor; what better way to alter legislation and public opinion that being minister? Such atypical values like house elf rights would’ve given her an uphill battle as a politician, let alone the resistance from blood-discriminators with their deep magical roots. Although, I’m sure being one of HP’s best friends and saving the world helps. This makes me a bit more at ease with her taking the position that was made to be a joke at the end of the series tho 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@groot8950 it makes Hermione blank. A Mary Sue. In the movies, she has pretty much no flaws at all and that makes her one dimensional. That's why the screenwriting of the books didn't do her any favor, as well as they didn't do any favor to Ron for writing all his positive personality traits to Hermione and even some to Harry. Steve Kloves, the screenwriter of 7 of the 8 movies, states from the very beginning that Hermione was his favorite character. And it shows. He also was a huge Harry/Hermione shipper, that's another reason why Ron and Ginny are written so poorly in the movies. In the movies it looks like Harry is as comfortable with Hermione as he is with Ron. Or even that she is his first go-to friend when he needs someone to talk to. But that's not the case in the books. The two times Harry and Ron fight during the series, Harry feels miserable all the time and even admits that though he likes Hermione, that's it's not the same being with her alone. When Ron leaves in DH, Harry and Hermione sometimes don't even share a single word for days. When instead Harry is fighting with Hermione, like in PoA because of the Firebolt, he is quite indifferent to that fact. It doesn't bother him too much. In the books it's clearly shown that Hermione needs her friends just as much as they need her. If not for Ron, I'm pretty sure she'd have turned into a very arrogant person, because she's so high maintaining. But Ron brings her down to earth, back to reality. Also, he provides most of the everyday-wizard knowledge not only to Harry, but also to Hermione, too, who doesn't know everything like she does in the books. You could say that Hermione is the brain of the group, Harry the soul and Ron the heart. In the movies, Ron is represented pretty much useless most of the time, but in the books, he's brave, he's loyal, he's the witty guy, and most importantly, he opens his family for Harry, he, without thinking, adopts Harry as a brother and shows him, for the first time, what love is. In the movie PoA, when Crookshanks supposedly had eaten Scabbers, all Ron wanted was Hermione to acknowledge it and apologize. But she was too proud almost the entire book (in the last third or so she finally apologizes), even when Ron asked her to keep Crookshanks away from Scabbers and don't bring him near the Rat, she belittles his request. In the movie, the entire Crookshanks/Scabbers-gate is shown as a mere distress. End even when Scabbers is found alive in Hagrids hut, Hermione tells Ron to apologize to her, suggesting to the audience, that Ron was at fault the whole time, when actually, it was Hermiones ignorance that was the problem here. Sorry for the long text. But please reread the books again, you'll notice that Hermione has way more flaws in the books and that makes her a better character, because you can really identify with her.

I had to raise my eyebrow at the argument "Nah she aint smart she just memorized stuff really well." - Which is...that seems like a very odd argument. Considering that if a person merely memorized things, they cannot adapt/utilize said knowledge for anything different than what they just are remembering. They cannot take parts of what they learned, and utilize components of that knowledge for further things/the needed overlapping bits/pieces for other things. Such as the knowledge from learning to cast a simple year 1 spell, and how you later learn to adapt the required parts of that for a new one later on - Or how to make that simple spell be a very powerful one, as with learning/experience you can adapt what is normally a simple trick into something way more advanced. This is quite an odd argument to make...Especially if you consider Hogwarts is a school, and it would be a very poor one if it was all about just puking out what you just store in your memory, and never doing anything that builds upon things learned before, thus requiring past knowledge adapted to work something more down the way to work. You ought to never teach someone how to simply remember things, but how to use that absorbed knowledge. Dolores Umbridge's pitiful performance as a teacher was pretty much an example of attempted "just memorize things" style antics. For a simple real life example into the difference: I can remember "E=mc2" , and even remember what the symbols here mean....but I would be hard pressed to use it in any meaning ways, as that is outside my realm of expertise: I cannot adapt/use that memory for anything, and it's just a trivia fact because I lack the ability to adapt/utilize it. Ergo: I did not study, and thus learn how to do that. Example 2 would be me learning to communicate in a secondary language: English. If I simply just remembered how to write in English, I would need to memorize every single word in the dictionary, and how they are bent. And as anyone who is leaning/has learned a new language can tell you: That aint how you learn to talk/write in a new language, now is it? Learning, and remembering are two different things: If it was all about remembering, the order of things taught would also be a very trivial matter, as you just need to "just remember stuff." Got it memorized?

@@stephanielim5544 Considering how Slytherin is pre-downfall of Voldy (and probably still after for a slight period?) towards muggle borns, I suspect she would not have neither been allowed by the Sorting, nor found much friendship in there. It would be akin to being sorted into a house ruled by those who detest your very being for rather nasty reasons. In the same breath - What each house stands for is a malleable thing. Take Peter Pettigrew - He may have been a sniveling excuse for a man, but he still was despite all his self-preservation based cowardliness ...a brave man. From a certain point of view: It takes a twisted kind of bravery to betray your friends, sell them out, and to also not just keel over from Voldy breathing down your neck, still being capable of some rather impressive magical feats. Though I suspect the sorting does attempt to assure that each student finds the environment they will prosper in most. Were Hermione Slytherin, as she has a proneness for insecurity at times ( at least in her younger days) would likely never have gotten to the level she got to if she was surrounded by people who strive to crush her self-esteem every single waking second. While Slytherin did probably always host its share of not so radicalized thinking students (akin to Slughorn), it did still host a lot of bad habits, and the morally good Slytherins probably at the time they attended Hogwarts were severely outnumbered. Odds are if she did thrive despite Slytherin - She would have become quite a hardened person in response to that, and not in the good way. Being stuffed into a den of bullies, and being stuck with them surrounding you at all times would cause a lot of damage. It's a hard concept to really wrap your head around though, how sorting works.
@stephanielim5544
@stephanielim5544 3 жыл бұрын
@@videocrowsnest5251 hypothetically saying Hermione's been placed in slytherin. We all know how slytherin would react by a muggleborn being sorted there, but I also think you underestimate the slytherins characteristics too. If there's anything they really love the most more than the pure ness of one's blood is that they know power when they see one. Hermione being in slytherin with both gryffindors and slytherins distancing from her would just make her more ambitious, and later on would covet power just to prove everyone wrong. If she was left into life without any friends and sorted in the most despised house who said house is like a playground for Politics, she would definitely end up similar to Voldemort, but unlike Voldemort she at least have her parents love and support, she won't end up being blinded by power but she would definitely make them blind because she will make sure that SHE is power. Now you see why she has more potential than Dumbledore and Voldemort? She lived through this 2 formidable wizards and she saw their flaws and how they went down so her being the slytherin that she was would take the knowledge for her benefit and avoid the actions of their downfall.

There is a bit of Historical Context Slytherin's hatred of Muggle-borns was a continuation of his hatred of Muggles. The era of the founders was very different. Witches and Wizards were actively hunted down and any sort of Magic was absolutely frowned upon. Wanton killing of Magical folks lead to a very real threat of extinction of Britain's Magical Community. Slytherin floated the idea of Hogwarts as an Invisible-to-Muggle-World impenetrable fortress where all the Magical families of Britain will get a safe haven from Persecution. Gryffindor viewed Hogwarts not just as a fort but rather as a school where young Witches & Wizards would be taught about Witchcraft, Wizardry, diff Magical arts and more imp about the control of Magic. Here, Slytherin believed that Magical knowledge should only be concentrated amongst a few Wizarding Families with generations-old Magical lineage while other founders sought out Muggle-born Witches & Wizards. Slytherin held deep distrust of Muggle-born witches & Wizards as he believed that their Muggle Heritage would act as a Corrupting influence on Magic. Things came to a flashpoint when Gryffindor, Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw proposed to open Hogwarts to the Muggle world as a means to share Magical Knowledge and improve contacts with the Muggle World; something which the Slytherin was greatly opposed to. Slytherin, unable to agree with his Co-Founders, chose to leave Hogwarts; but b4 leaving he constructed the Chamber of Secrets which housed the Basilisk. Slytherin then proclaimed that one day his very own rightful heir would come and open the chamber and rid the school of all Muggle influence.

I agree. Voldemorts downfall always came from lusting power to the exclusion of obtaining sufficient knowledge (killing Lilly, putting Harry's blood in him, trying to kill harry as a baby without knowing the full prophesy, etc.) And I think that Hermione would have avoided that allowing her to reach a higher potential than voldemort. I believe it would have taken her longer as she would have searched for more knowledge and wouldn't have thought that the ends justified the means as far as hurting people, but although more slow I believe it would have been more stable, sustainable, and longer lasting power.

I doubt she'd create Horcruxes as well. One of the reasons LV experimented with magics which killed other dark wizards after he created Horcruxes was his knowledge he was immortal...a luxury Hermione would not have.

I feel that the half blood prince highlights hermiones weaknesses the most glaringly. Hermiones strengths comes from lots of studying. But she has issues with thinking outside the box. Which is why she is consistently outperformed by THBP through Harry.

Hermione doesn't have issues thinking outside the box. She regularly does it. The problem is that she is a die-hard rule follower. If forced to create new spells or potions, I have no doubt that she could. But her, as harry says, "mania for upholding rules" is so strong, she simply doesn't. That's why Snape outperformed her potion making. Snape was ambitious and power hungry, he would've done research to cut corners. Hermione would never do that, because she has nothing to prove.

An idea I have for a topic is what could actually happened if Cedric Diggory lived. The Cursed Child book portrays him horribly. He wouldn't be upset that he lost the triwizard tournament (in fact, he walked away from the triwizard cup, which would've given Hufflepuff the glory it hadn't gotten in centuries, though stepped aside to let Harry win), and he wouldn't become a death eater, killing and attacking his former classmates in the Battle of Hogwarts. So to cut things short: what would he have done after graduation? What would happen if he hadn't grabbed the triwizard cup?

She was smart and talented - as to the Mnemonic (photographic) memory while she might have had that - just having that does not make someone "Powerful" - it's not just memorizing facts and information, it's how you use that information. And Hermione was clever and could do amazing things, among those was the DA buttons, the DA signature curse.

Honestly, I see Hermione capping out at McGonagall’s level in that they are both highly skilled witches with a technical mastery of most practical forms of Magic. The problem is that people like Dumbledore, Grindlewald, and Voldemort have the benefit of that same technical skill in addition to being overwhelmingly powerful. Don’t get me wrong, the spells cast by Hermione and McGonagall definitely have power and force behind them but they have never displayed anything more powerful than what Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Grindlewald are capable of.

Great video really well discussed. Hermione is unquestionable very smart, anyone who say otherwise is not taking any not of evidence that disagrees with a preconceived idea of what they think smart is. Memory is an extortionary skill that is a huge advantage in learning but on its own it is limited with out the intelligence to use and apply it. Hermione's quick and reasoned thinking are what allows her to make use of her great memory and allows her to employ and apply knowledge at the right times and in the right ways. Hermione has many different types of intelligence which all function together to allow her to make great use of her incredible intellect and talents to a level that would put full grown and experienced wizards and witches to shame. Hermione has undoubted raw talent and great natural ability for learning but it is her determination and work ethic that allows her to gain the knowledge she has and take full command of her talents, she has worked hard for and earned her power. Which in my mind makes her more like Dumbledore because she has respect for that power.

In an alternate timeline, Harry never went to Hogwarts. Hermione never met him and became friends. She never became friends with Ron. She doesn’t make any friends and is bullied by the other kids. Hermione has nothing to do, but study. She studies hard and eventually gets curious about dark magic. Years passed and hermione becomes a powerful witch, but she’s cold as ice. Hermione secretly does experiments with her magic which creates a lot of accidents, that thankfully doesn’t lead back to her. The wizarding war starts and she’s one of their best. She eventually figures out how to kill Voldemort and it involves killing a young boy in England. While the others have problems with this, she doesn’t. Hermione uses Harry to lure Voldemort out and kill them both. People are happy Voldemort is gone, but some see the sacrifice of a boy as barbaric. Some start to shun Hermione, like the Weasleys. Now that the war is done Hermione isn’t seen as valuable as she was in the war and some treat her worst for what she did. It makes her angry and want to get revenge. She feels the system is messed up and should be changed. Long story short, she starts the third Wizarding War against the ministry, who is led by Ron Weasly, A muggleborn vs a pure blood.

A dark wizard with strong Gryffindor values . It would be interesting, like how Voldemort wanted to make Hogwarts just Slytheirn maybe Hermonie would be be the exact opposite and try to make the castle and by proxy the entire British Wizarding World solely a Gryffindor dominant place . Just imagine it maybe we would see an attempt at the destruction of the entire dementor species maybe being Muggleborn she would try and take over the muggle world because she would think that they are incapable of ruling.
